The Mawuko Area Community Development Committee (CDC), Alayo Zone, on Saturday, 23rd May, 2026, organized a remarkable Children’s Day/Youth Development Seminar aimed at addressing critical issues affecting children and youths within the community. The epoch-making event, held at Atoku Football Playing Ground, Alayo Zone, Mawuko, Abeokuta, brought together students, teachers, community leaders, government representatives, security agencies, parents, and youth stakeholders under the theme: “Stand Up, Speak Up: Building a Bullying-Free Generation.” The seminar focused on sensitizing children and youths on drug abuse, sexual abuse, youth safety, crime prevention, moral discipline, and responsible living. In his welcome address, Engr. Rodemade Emmanuel, Coordinator, Mawuko Area CDC, Alayo Zone, appreciated God for granting the community the opportunity to organize the impactful seminar. He stressed the urgent need for communities to rise against child abuse, bullying, drug abuse, and other social vices affecting young people. According to him, the increasing cases of child abuse and moral decadence within society informed the decision of the CDC to organize the seminar as part of efforts to engage and positively redirect youths within the community. He also appreciated the Chairman of Mawuko Area CDC for his immense support and commitment toward the successful realization of the programme. Engr. Rodemade Emmanuel thereafter urged the children and youths present to pay maximum attention throughout the seminar and make good use of the knowledge gained. In his remarks, Tpl. Ibraheem Olatunji, MNITP, RTP, Coordinator, Mawuko Area CDC, Mawuko Zone, described the seminar as timely, especially during the celebration of Children’s Day. He encouraged participants to listen attentively and ask questions where necessary in order to benefit fully from the programme. Mrs. Adeniran from Odeda Local Government commended the Mawuko Area CDC, Alayo Zone, for what she described as a wonderful initiative and prayed for fruitful deliberations throughout the event. Also speaking, Mr. Sunday Adekoya, representing the Ogun State Ministry of Community Development and Cooperatives, advised the children to take the seminar seriously, noting that such educational programmes are rarely organized in many communities. He further applauded the Alayo Zone for prioritizing the intellectual and moral development of children and youths rather than focusing solely on infrastructural development. “We are not just constructing roads and building houses; we are equipping our children because they are the leaders of tomorrow,” he stated. In his goodwill message, Alhaji Muideen Kalejaye lauded the Alayo Zone for organizing the seminar at a very crucial time and subsequently declared the seminar officially open. One of the major highlights of the event was the presentation of the Community Icon Award by the Mawuko Area Community Development Committee, Alayo Zone, to Alhaji Muideen Owolabi Kalejaye in recognition of his outstanding leadership, selfless service, unwavering commitment, and immense contributions toward the growth, peace, unity, and development of Mawuko Community. The award presentation, which took place during the seminar, attracted loud applause from participants and dignitaries who described Alhaji Kalejaye as a committed community leader whose contributions have continued to positively impact the development of the area. The first lead paper presentation was delivered by Chief Engr. Adeoye Adekunle on the topic: “Sexual Abuse Among Youths and Youth Safety and Crime Prevention.” During the lecture, the speaker identified several major factors contributing to sexual abuse among youths, including lack of comprehensive sex education, substance abuse, mental health challenges, peer pressure, poor family background, exposure to immoral content at home, poverty, and weak legal enforcement systems. Speaking partly in Yoruba for better understanding among participants, Chief Adekunle warned youths against irresponsible sexual behaviour, emphasizing the dangers associated with immoral lifestyles, including unwanted pregnancies, sexually transmitted infections, emotional trauma, imprisonment, and even untimely death. He further blamed poor parenting, exposure to indecent dressing, pornography, drug abuse, and societal negligence for the growing cases of sexual misconduct among young people. On youth safety and crime prevention, the lecturer highlighted the importance of situational awareness, digital safety, healthy boundaries, travel safety, open communication with parents, proper parental supervision, stable homes, school discipline, peer education, and youth empowerment through vocational and skills acquisition programmes. The second paper presentation titled “Combating Drug and Sexual Abuse Among Youths: Causes, Consequences and Strategies” was delivered by Alh. Aare Asiwaju Dapo Wahab, who spoke extensively on the devastating effects of drug abuse and immoral lifestyles among youths. Addressing participants with deep concern, the speaker described children as gifts from God and youths as the strength of every nation, warning that any society that allows drugs and sexual abuse to destroy its youths is indirectly destroying its future. He identified commonly abused substances among youths to include cannabis, tramadol, codeine syrup, shisha mixed with drugs, alcohol, cigarettes, cocaine, and heroin. According to him, many youths wrongly assume that drugs make them bold, fashionable, or powerful, whereas in reality, drugs only multiply problems rather than solving them. The lecturer also explained that sexual abuse includes rape, defilement, sexual harassment, pornography addiction, early sexual exposure, exploitation through social media, and transactional sex. He identified peer pressure, broken homes, poverty, unemployment, social media influence, and lack of moral values as major causes of drug and sexual abuse among young people. Giving practical examples, he narrated how many students are lured into smoking, cultism, internet fraud, and immoral relationships through bad friendships and lack of parental care. He further highlighted several consequences of drug abuse, including destruction of health, mental illness, poor academic performance, crime, violence, and loss of destiny. On sexual abuse, he noted that victims often suffer emotional trauma, depression, school dropout, unwanted pregnancy, sexually transmitted diseases, and loss of self-worth. As solutions, the speaker advocated stronger parental involvement, community sensitization programmes, youth empowerment initiatives, moral and religious teachings, counselling services, rehabilitation support, and vocational opportunities for youths. He charged the youths not to allow temporary pleasure to destroy permanent opportunities and urged them to choose friends wisely while protecting their future and dignity. Following the paper presentations, a panel discussion session was held and chaired by Comrade Badejo Adeyẹmi, AMCP. Panelists included Tpl. Ibraheem Olatunji, MNITP, RTP; Chief Akeem Sowunmi; Chief Ajakaye; Tpl. Abiodun Mustapha; Hon. (Mrs.) Akinbola, Founder of Courageous People Health and Development Initiative; ASN II Oyewole O. A special sensitization session by officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) educated children on the need to report cases of abuse, harassment, bullying, or violence to trusted adults such as parents, teachers, religious leaders, community leaders, or law enforcement officers. The children were also guided on personal safety, confidence-building, and speaking out against social vices. One of the major highlights of the programme was the Youth Pledge Against Bullying and Social Vices, during which participants collectively pledged to uphold good morals, reject drugs and violence, and become responsible ambassadors within their communities. .....Cooperative Leaders Advocate Unity, Transparency, and Sustainable Growth Members and leaders of Owo Group Makun Sagamu Cooperative Investment and Credit Society Limited gathered at the Owo Cooperative Event Centre, Ewu Oliwo, Oja Otitokoro, Ado Omitutu, Sagamu, Ogun State, on Thursday, May 7, 2026, for a one-day retreat themed “Cooperation Among Cooperatives.” The event brought together cooperative stakeholders across the Remo Zone in a bid to strengthen unity, leadership capacity, and sustainable development within the cooperative movement. The retreat, which commenced at 9:00 a.m., featured goodwill messages, keynote addresses, paper presentations, interactive sessions, and awards for outstanding cooperative societies under the Owo Group umbrella. In his welcome address, the President of Owo Group Makun Sagamu Cooperative Investment and Credit Society Limited, Prince Lateef Adewale Oriade (FICP), described the retreat as “a moment of reflection, learning, and strategic alignment,” stressing that cooperative leadership must be built on integrity, accountability, and service to members. According to him, committee members occupy positions of trust and are expected to uphold the core principles of cooperatives, particularly the Sixth Principle of the International Cooperative Alliance (ICA) — Cooperation Among Cooperatives. “When we uphold cooperative principles, we build trust. When we neglect them, we weaken the very structure we are meant to strengthen,” he stated. Prince Oriade further encouraged participants to embrace open dialogue, continuous improvement, and collaborative leadership capable of driving economic empowerment and community development. The retreat also received commendation from the Branch President of Remo Branch One of Ogun State Cooperative Federation Limited (OGSCOFED), Chief (Mrs.) Adenike Ajayi, who congratulated the organizers for focusing on the Sixth Cooperative Principle. She urged participants to pay close attention to the lectures and actively engage during discussions and question-and-answer sessions, noting that inter-cooperation remains essential to the survival, growth, and expansion of the cooperative movement. Declaring the retreat open, the Assistant Director of Cooperative Services, Sagamu Local Government, Mr. O. A. Babarinde, applauded the remarkable achievements of the society, describing Owo Group Makun Sagamu Cooperative Investment and Credit Society Limited as one of the outstanding cooperative societies not only in Ogun State but across Nigeria. A major highlight of the retreat was the lecture presentation delivered by the Executive Secretary of Ogun State Cooperative Federation Limited (OGSCOFED), Mrs. Folorunso Olusola Arike, on the topic “Cooperation Among Cooperatives.” In her comprehensive presentation, she explained that cooperation among cooperatives is the Sixth Principle of the International Cooperative Alliance, emphasizing that cooperatives achieve greater impact when they collaborate rather than compete against one another. She noted that inter-cooperation enables cooperatives to pool resources, share knowledge, reduce operational costs, influence policies, and expand economic opportunities for members and host communities. The lecture further explored the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats (SWOT) associated with cooperative collaboration, while citing practical global examples from India, Colombia, Uruguay, Argentina, Kenya, and Spain. Using the renowned Self-Employed Women’s Association (SEWA) cooperative model in India as a case study, the speaker demonstrated how cooperative networking has empowered millions of women economically, improved access to healthcare and education, and reduced poverty among vulnerable households. She stressed that isolated cooperatives often struggle with inadequate resources, duplication of efforts, weak bargaining power, and low economic impact, whereas cooperation among cooperatives creates economies of scale and stronger community influence. The Executive Secretary also emphasized the importance of unity, trust, solidarity, education, and networking in strengthening the cooperative movement for future generations. “Cooperation among cooperatives is not just a principle — it is a survival strategy,”she declared. The session featured an engaging question-and-answer segment during which participants sought practical clarification on cooperative management, networking, and investment opportunities. During the retreat, the Administrative Manager of Owolowo Makun Sagamu Remo CTCU Limited, Pastor Oluyiga Gbodi (FICP), presented reports on the position of the societies, welfare packages, building shares, union shares, and investment opportunities under the Owo Group structure. Awards were also presented to outstanding performing cooperative societies within the Owo Group network. .......New union receives certificate as stakeholders celebrate expansion, investment progress, staff recognition, and cooperative growth in Sagamu. The Cooperative Movement in Ogun State recorded another remarkable milestone on Thursday, March 26, 2026, as Owolowo Makun Sagamu (Remo) C.T.C.U. Ltd held its 45th Annual General Meeting (AGM) alongside the 2nd AGM of Owo Group Cooperative Investment, while also formally ushering in a new chapter with the official recognition of Owoniyi Makun Sagamu C.M.U. Ltd. The well-attended gathering brought together top cooperative stakeholders, leaders of apex bodies, Union Presidents, Board members, delegates, staff, and other dignitaries, all united in celebrating the continued growth, strategic expansion, and economic strength of the cooperative movement within the Makun Sagamu axis of Remo, Ogun State. At the centre of the event was the presentation of the Annual Accounts and Statistical Returns for the year ended 2025, revealing a strong financial outlook across the societies under the Union and reaffirming the growing influence of the Owo Group cooperative family. In his management report delivered at the AGM, the President of Owolowo Makun Sagamu (Remo) C.T.C.U. Ltd, Prince L. A. Oriade, described the occasion as a moment of joy, gratitude, and renewed purpose. He welcomed the Director of Cooperative Services, Ogun State, the President of Ogun State Cooperative Federation Limited, Board members of cooperative apexes, union presidents, cooperative leaders, delegates, and distinguished guests to what he described as another important milestone in the life of the union. According to him, the AGM was not only an opportunity to review the performance of the union for the year under consideration, but also a day set aside to honour dedication, reward service, celebrate institutional growth, and formally present a certificate to a newly established union within the OWO family. Prince Oriade disclosed that the union held twelve (12) Board and general meetings during the year under review, all of which he said were highly purposeful and instrumental to the progress recorded by the union. He commended the Board members and delegates for their unwavering support, selfless commitment, and quality contributions to the administration and advancement of the union. According to him, the consistency of meetings and the seriousness with which decisions were made helped to shape several of the achievements now being celebrated within the cooperative family. Reviewing the union’s financial standing, the president noted that shares and savings mobilized by affiliate societies remained encouraging, showing continued confidence of members in the cooperative system. He urged societies under the union to intensify their efforts in the coming financial year, especially in the areas of savings culture, internal capital growth, and membership participation. While acknowledging that the union’s own immediate net surplus did not surpass that of the previous year due to the structural effect of birthing a new union, Prince Oriade stressed that the overall performance across the cooperative family remained highly impressive. He revealed that the total net surplus of societies under Owolowo rose from ₦353 million to ₦425 million, a development he described as a notable financial achievement and a reflection of prudent leadership, collective discipline, and cooperative resilience. Another major feature of the event was the 2nd AGM of OWO Group Cooperative Investment, which further reinforced the determination of the unions under the OWO umbrella to pursue long-term collective wealth creation through strategic investments. Although the detailed breakdown of the investment body’s financial figures was not the central focus of the proceedings, it was clearly indicated that the cooperative investment structure remains on a positive financial path with a net surplus running into over one million naira, a sign that the initiative is steadily taking shape as a sustainable economic arm of the growing OWO Group. The investment platform was also presented as one of the practical tools being deployed to ensure that cooperative institutions under the OWO family move beyond routine thrift and credit operations into more structured, long-term wealth-building and asset-based development. Prince Oriade also addressed the issue of overdue loans, noting that the union’s leadership remains fully committed to ensuring that non-performing loans across societies are brought under control. He explained that the board has sustained a robust monitoring structure aimed at strengthening committees in various societies, improving accountability, and encouraging members to follow the leadership examples set before them. This, he said, has already begun to yield positive results as societies increasingly adopt more responsible loan administration and financial supervision practices. One of the most touching moments of the AGM was the emphasis placed on staff welfare and recognition, a value Prince Oriade said remains central to the philosophy of the union. He described staff members as the engine room of any thriving organization, noting that the growth and progress being recorded across the union and its societies are partly the result of the dedication, competence, and sacrifice of the workforce. In appreciation of years of service and loyalty, the union specially recognized several long-serving personnel. Those acknowledged include: 1. Mr. Awoniyi Rafiu, for 20 years of service 2. Mrs. Omowunmi Orekoya, who served for 25 years and retired during the year under review 3. Mr. Oluyiga Gbodi, who has served for 30 years and still counting Prince Oriade praised them for their commitment and prayed for continued progress and reward in their lives. He also encouraged other members of staff to remain diligent, committed, and devoted to their duties, assuring them that their labour would not be forgotten. Perhaps the most historic development of the day was the official emergence of Owoniyi Makun Sagamu C.M.U. Ltd, a new union carved out to deepen oversight, improve supervision, and drive more effective grassroots cooperative development. Prince Oriade recalled that during the previous AGM, he had already hinted at the possibility of another union being established after the successful birth of Owowawawa Makun Sagamu C.M.U. Ltd. He said the dream has now become reality, describing the development as a testimony to vision, divine favour, and the commitment of all societies and delegates under the union. According to him, the rationale behind the creation of more Union is rooted in the need for: 1. Closer supervision of societies 2. Improved cooperative oversight 3. Better administrative effectiveness 4. Expansion and growth 5. Optimal use of human and institutional resources He added that the continuous expansion of the OWO family is part of a deliberate long-term plan to promote the rapid development of cooperatives in the environment. In a statement that drew excitement from participants, he expressed hope that, with God’s help, the Union may yet witness the emergence of another new union in the coming year. In a separate address during the event, the President of the newly recognized Owoniyi Makun Sagamu C.M.U. Ltd, Mr. Taiwo Oguntade, presented a brief history of the Union and described its emergence as a product of strategic leadership and inspired planning. He explained that the idea of the Union was first conceived by Prince L. A. Oriade, following the successful establishment of Owowawawa Makun Sagamu C.M.U. Ltd. After a series of consultations, the proposal was brought before the Board of Owolowo Makun Sagamu (Remo) C.T.C.U. Ltd in September 2025, and was approved by the general meeting within the same month, leading to the commencement of the process that birthed Owoniyi. Mr. Oguntade disclosed that the new Union started with fourteen (14) societies released from Owolowo, alongside four newly registered societies that received their certificates in 2026, bringing the total number of societies under the union to eighteen (18). He further announced that the union is taking off with a grand total net surplus of ₦81,837,322.00, a figure he said reflects the strength and bright prospects of the new union from inception. He described the future of Owoniyi as very bright, assuring members and stakeholders that the new leadership is fully committed to delivering strong, transparent, and growth-oriented administration. A major symbolic highlight of the ceremony was the presentation of the certificate of registration to Owoniyi Makun Sagamu Remo C.M.U. Ltd, officially recognizing the Union within the Cooperative structure. The certificate was presented by the Deputy Director of Cooperative Services, Mr. A. A. Ogunjimi, to the admiration and applause of delegates and dignitaries present at the occasion. The moment was widely seen as one of the defining highlights of the event, representing not only formal approval, but also a new beginning in the ongoing expansion of the Cooperative movement in the Remo area. As part of the ceremony, two board members were formally sent forth to continue their leadership journey and contributions under the newly established Owoniyi union. Those honoured were: 1. Mr. Olusegun Ogundalu 2. Mr. Taiwo Oguntade Their movement was described not as a departure from service, but as a strategic redeployment into a new phase of cooperative leadership where their experience and commitment would continue to benefit the larger OWO family. They were commended for their fruitful contributions and dedication to the growth and stability of the union. Another key highlight of the AGM was the update on the OWO Group Event Centre project, one of the flagship collective investments of the cooperative family. The project is jointly owned by: 1. Owolowo Makun Sagamu Remo C.T.C.U. Ltd 2. Owodunni Makun Sagamu C.M.U. Ltd 3. Owowawawa Makun Sagamu C.M.U. Ltd 4. Owoniyi Makun Sagamu C.M.U. Ltd And other Unions expected to emerge in the future Prince Oriade stated that the project is progressing steadily and stands as visible evidence of the power of unity, collaboration, and Cooperative investment. He praised all the Societies and Unions under the OWO Group umbrella for their commitment and support toward the success of the project, noting that such a large undertaking can only succeed where there is shared vision and mutual trust. He expressed confidence that the event centre would be completed in due course and that members would all gather again to witness and celebrate its commissioning. In his concluding remarks, Prince Oriade paid glowing tribute to several respected elders and stakeholders whose guidance, support, and encouragement have continued to strengthen the union. He specifically appreciated: 1. Chief Mrs. Modupe Osoare 2. Sir (Dr.) Chief Olusegun Ayodele, J.P. 3. Mr. Sesan Osho 4. Alhaji Basiru Adeleye 5. Pharm. O. O. Odunlami, immediate past President of the union He also extended gratitude to the Director of Cooperative Services, Ogun State, members of staff of the Ministry of Community Development and Cooperative Services, and the leadership and staff of the Ogun State Cooperative Federation Limited for their continued support in making the cooperative movement in Ogun State more vibrant and impactful.

The event brought together members, cooperative leaders, government representatives, and well-wishers to commemorate the society’s remarkable journey since its establishment in 1976, while also reviewing its performance for the 2025 financial year. At the heart of the celebration was the announcement of a strong financial performance, as the society recorded a net surplus of Forty-Five Million, Two Hundred and Nine Thousand, Five Hundred and Sixty-Five Naira (₦45,209,565) for the year under review, representing a significant increase from the ₦30 million posted in the previous year. The Cooperative society President, Elder T. A. Adesegun also disclosed impressive financial indicators, including a total share capital of ₦170,701,204, ordinary savings of ₦80,777,596, and loans issued amounting to ₦290,877,279, underscoring its continued relevance as a dependable financial and social support structure for members. The AGM doubled as a golden jubilee celebration, marking 50 years of uninterrupted existence and service to members and the larger cooperative movement in Ogun State. In his management reflections, the Elder Adesegun attributed the society’s longevity and stability to divine grace, disciplined administration, and sustained member cooperation. The report noted that despite the challenges often faced by grassroots institutions, Ifenirepo Igbore has continued to thrive and has now become a reference point among cooperative societies in the state. The atmosphere of gratitude was evident as the society appreciated God for preserving the lives of members and sustaining the organisation over the decades, especially through moments of internal and external challenges. In appreciation of members’ loyalty and commitment, the President Elder Adesegun announced a number of anniversary packages and welfare benefits. Every member present received a ₦10,000 take-home gift, in addition to a special 50th anniversary garment and commemorative anniversary gift. Importantly, Elder Adesegun clarified that these celebratory packages did not in any way affect members’ dividends, reinforcing the society’s strong financial footing and prudent management. The event also featured the sharing of dividends, a key highlight that further demonstrated the society’s commitment to rewarding members for their investment and trust. RICH LEGACY OF GROWTH AND ASSET DEVELOPMENT The history of Ifenirepo Igbore Cooperative is deeply rooted in community development and visionary leadership. Founded on July 13, 1976, the society began with a few committed individuals, among whom Elder T. A. Adesegun, Elder Isaac I. Sowunmi, and J. A. Akinwunmi remain recognised as some of the surviving early pioneers. The society obtained its official Certificate of Registration from the Ogun State Government on July 17, 1979, under Registration Number 112. Over the years, Ifenirepo Igbore has built a formidable record of achievements. Among its landmark milestones are the acquisition of two plots of land from Egbejoda Union in 1982, the development of its building projects, and the eventual completion of significant housing structures. The report highlighted that under different leadership eras, the society successfully developed two sets of four-flat residential buildings, one of its earliest major physical achievements. Further evidence of prudent investment was seen in the society’s property acquisitions, which include: - One acre of land at Obada-Oko axis - Two plots of land at Fadage with eight lock-up shops - A plot of land at Oke-Ata These investments have not only strengthened the society’s asset base but also positioned it for long-term sustainability and wealth creation for members. Beyond its own internal growth, Ifenirepo Igbore has also played a historic role in the expansion of the cooperative movement in Ogun State through the formation and incubation of other societies and unions. Under the leadership of Elder T. A. Adesegun, the society was instrumental in the establishment of several cooperative societies, including Oluwalose, Igbein and Ifelere, Igbein, which later contributed to the formation of Ifeoluwapo Union, Isabo. In addition, the leadership of Elder Adesegun facilitated the establishment of multiple societies across Kuto and surrounding communities, among them: 1. Ifedapo, Igbore 2. Ifedayo, Kuto 3. Ifeladun, Kuto 4. Ifesola, Kuto 5. Ifeyewa, Kuto 6. Ifetayo, Kuto 7. Ifetobi, Kuto 8. Ifesegun, Kuto 9. Ifetola, Kuto 10. Ifegbemi, Kuto The growth of these societies eventually led to the creation of Iranlowo Oluwa Union, Leme, which became autonomous and joined the wider cooperative structure in Ogun State. This long-standing contribution to cooperative institution-building has earned the society and its leadership considerable recognition across the state. One of the strongest testaments to Ifenirepo Igbore’s consistency is its record of recognition by the Ogun State cooperative movement. The society proudly announced that it has remained one of the Ten Best-performing Cooperative Societies in Ogun State every year from 2013 to 2025, receiving repeated commendations and awards from the cooperative apex body. This sustained recognition reflects not only financial strength, but also good governance, accountability, and the ability to maintain members’ confidence over time. As part of the AGM proceedings, the society also conducted the election of new executives, a process that reaffirmed its democratic and participatory governance culture. The event was further enriched by goodwill messages from dignitaries and stakeholders within the cooperative movement, many of whom praised the society for its resilience, discipline, and outstanding contribution to grassroots economic empowerment. The anniversary and AGM attracted an array of distinguished personalities from the cooperative and government sectors. Among those present were the Director of Cooperative Services, Ogun State, Pastor Samuel Mustapha, FICP, who was represented by the Deputy Director of Cooperative Services, Mr. A. A. Ogunjimi.
