The president had held a brief meeting with the student union leaders when he visited the OAU to attend a political meeting organised by some Yoruba leaders on the campus.

Ibikunle had told our correspondent that the President promised to act fast on the demands of the students for reduction in the fees charged by the management of the university.

He noted that some students from poor background had dropped out of school because of the exorbitant fees being charged by higher institutions.

The student stated that crime would continue to be on the increase if education, which is the only sure way to bridge the gap between the rich and the poor, was priced out of the reach of poor students.

He said OAU students and the entire students all over the country would work against the president if he fails to fulfill the promise he made to them on the fees and other matters relating to the education sector.

It was a sad Christmas morning for residents of Oke Ibukun Street, off Araromi, in Akure, Ondo State capital, who woke up to a raging fire that razed a clinic, Universal Medical Clinic (Specialist Children Clinic) and killing one Dr. David Oguntuase, said to be the owner of the clinic.

It was gathered that the fire began at 12.30 am on Thursday, but no one was able to determine the actual cause of the fire.

Sympathisers could not hold back their tears as they watched the remains of the doctor in the midst of the building, burnt beyond recognition.

It was learnt that the doctor worked as a Consultant Pediatrician at the Federal Medical Centre in Owo while he maintained the private clinic in Akure.

Some residents were said to have made frantic efforts to rescue the building, but their efforts to get the firemen to the scene failed, as none of the fire officers came to the scene in spite of the calls made to them.

A resident, Ajayi Olorunlogbon, explained that but for the efforts of neighbors around, the fire could have spread to other houses.

Officers of the Fire Service in the state could not be reached, but Police Public Relations Officer, Wole Ogodo, confirmed the incident, and said the state police command had begun an investigation into the cause of the fire.

He said, “The doctor was consumed in an inferno in his clinic and we have commenced our investigation, while his corpse had be taken to the morgue for autopsy.”

Ogodo added that the wife of the late doctor, Wuraola Oguntuase, came to report the incident at the A-Division Police Station in Akure.

Celebrities72 Yr Old Man Arose From Death Right Before Being Cremated In India by yemisisi(op): 11:16am On Dec 24, 2014
Just when it seemed that there was no way back and nonexistence was the only option – a 72-year-old ‘dead’ man came to life screaming on the funeral pyre, Bhilwada, India.
“I know I can be a bit of a pain at times, but I hope they wait till I am actually dead before trying to set me on fire again,” Deepak Singh said.
According to the pensioner’s grandson Banda Nalwa, one day his gaffer woke up in the morning ready to feed the cows and suddenly fell over. The young man immediately ran up to him but couldn’t see any signs of life.
He couldn’t feel a pulse and gran-dad’s heart seemed to have stopped forever. He called the rest of the family and they agreed that their beloved relative passed away. A local doctor examined the body and pronounced Mr Singh dead.
After awhile all funeral arrangements were made and a big family gathered to grieve and mourn the deceased. His body and cloth was laid out on wood and almost set on fire when he spectacularly woke up avoiding being burnt alive.
Nalwa added: “As the volume of the wailing increased I suddenly saw my grandfather’s body move. At first I thought it was my imagination, but then he opened his eyes and sat up. Thank God we didn’t set the pyre alight as it seems he had just fainted. We were very lucky.”
Realising the mistake, Nalwa and his uncle quickly helped the old man off the pyre. Now he is in a stable condition and recovering.
Funeral pyre, is a structure, usually made of wood, for burning a body as part of a funeral ceremony or execution in some traditions. As a form of cremation, a body is placed upon or under the pyre, which is then set on fire.

PoliticsNorth Korea Loses All Internet After Threatening Attack On The USA by yemisisi(op): 11:05am On Dec 23, 2014
(CNN) -- North Korea's Internet was back up Tuesday after a more than nine-hour outage, according to Dyn Research, a company that monitors Internet performance.
The disruption came amid an escalating war of words between the United States and North Korea over a massive cyberattack on Sony Pictures.
"Usually there are isolated blips, not continuous connectivity problems. I wouldn't be surprised if they are absorbing some sort of attack presently," Doug Madory, director of Internet analysis at Dyn Research, said when the Internet was down.

Matthew Prince, president of CloudFlare, a performance and security company, described the disruption as if "all the routes to get to North Korea just disappeared.
"It's as if North Korea got erased from the global map of the Internet," he said.
Prince, who also spoke when the Internet was down, told CNN it's well within the realm of possibility that a single individual could have been behind the interruption but said he can't conclude at this point that an attack took place.
"If it is an attack, it's highly unlikely it's the United States. More likely it's a 15-year-old in a Guy Fawkes mask," he said.
The outage brought down sites run by the Korean Central News Agency and the Rodong Sinmun -- major mouthpieces for the regime -- according to the South Korean news agency Yonhap.
There were no problems accessing pro-Pyongyang pages that have servers abroad, Yonhap reported.
The United States blames North Korea for the Sony hack; North Korea denies it was involved.
The regime is upset over Sony's controversial comedy, "The Interview," which follows a plot to assassinate its leader, Kim Jong Un.
The studio decided to pull the film amid threats to moviegoers.
U.S. President Barack Obama told CNN on Sunday that the hack was "an act of cybervandalism that was very costly, very expensive" but that he didn't consider it an act of war.
He had previously said that the United States would "respond proportionally" to the attack on Sony, without giving specifics.
A spokeswoman for the National Security Council declined to comment on the reported outage.
A State Department spokeswoman similarly deflected a question about the disruption.
"We aren't going to discuss -- you know -- publicly, operational details about the possible response options or comment on those kind of reports in any way, except to say that as we implement our responses, some will be seen, some may not be seen," Marie Harf told reporters.

PoliticsNo Right Thinking Nigerian Will Re-elect Jonathan As President-buhari by yemisisi(op): 7:39pm On Dec 22, 2014
Archbishop of the Catholic Diocese of Abuja, John Cardinal Onaiyekan, has allayed fears in some quarters that the next February’s general elections will spark crises in the country, stressing that there was no need for such fear.
The cleric, who urged President Goodluck Jonathan not to fail Nigerians with his handling of the Boko Haram insurgency, held that Nigerians will not accept excuses for failure to curtail the sect, whose terrorism acts have resulted in the death of hundreds of people. He urged Christians to “pray and work for peace”.
Cardinal Onaiyekan was speaking at the annual Carol Night organized by the Akwa Ibom State government that held at the Akwa Ibom Stadium in Uyo on Saturday night. He called on politicians to be mindful of the fact that though God expects human beings to organize their lives, which explains why there are governors and president, God remains the owner of all things.
Further calling on them to seek power for the good of the majority of the people, whom he described as the reason for governance, the Archbishop said, “It is not enough to fear God. We must rule according to His will and for the good of the people. People are the reason for governance. Politicians are supposed to do whatever they do for the good of the majority. We are looking forward to the chance of making the choice of who will rule us.”
He stated further: “As we sit here, my heart goes out to the babies who are being born in distressful situations, especially in northeast states where Boko Haram has driven people away. Also, we should remember babies in the terrible theatres of wars such as Pakistan and Syria. Every child is precious. The lesson of Christmas is that the will of God will always be done.”
On his part, Akwa Ibom State Governor, Godswill Akpabio described the Carol night as a celebration of love, stressing that religion should not prevent one from building a peaceful world for mankind to develop.
According to him, “God is love, and out of love, God gave his only son for man to redeem of his sins. This is the seventh edition but holding for the first time in the new stadium. Our journey has not been easy. We have fought ethnicity. God gave us the string to string them down. As the walls of Jericho came down, every barrier to our success will come down. As we join our voices together, the insurgence shall cease to be. Through our voices, the Ebola shall cease to be, scourges of poverty in Africa will be erased in the continent through our voices.
“I declare peace and goodwill to all men. I am aware this is my valedictory carol night because next year, I will not have the honour to do so, but I shall be a special guest as senator of Nigeria,” he added
