OUR CORRESPONDENT ABEOKUTA The Ogun State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has intensified efforts to enhance road safety and ensure free flow of traffic along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, following a high-level strategy meeting convened by the Sector Commander, Corps Commander Oludare Ogunjobi The meeting, held on April 22, 2026, at the Sagamu Unit Command, brought together top officers overseeing operations along the corridor, including the Corridor Commander, Deputy Corps Commanders, and Unit Commanders from Mowe, Ogere, Sagamu, and Ogunmakin. Discussions centred on tackling the root causes of road traffic crashes and recurring gridlocks on the busy highway. Key concerns identified included the increasing cases of route violations, excessive speeding, and illegal parking of trucks, particularly around the Ogere axis. To address these challenges, the Command resolved to intensify joint enforcement operations with other security agencies to curb one-way driving and other traffic offences. It also announced plans to introduce regular mobile court sittings along the corridor to ensure prompt prosecution of offenders. As part of measures to decongest traffic, a sustained operation will be carried out to remove illegally parked trucks at Ogere, while strategic partnerships with major organisations along the corridor—such as RCCG, MFM and NASFAT—will be explored to boost operational capacity, including the provision of patrol vehicles. The Command also pledged to strengthen real-time reporting of traffic situations to keep road users adequately informed. In a show of commitment, the Sector Commander led officers on an inspection tour of the expressway immediately after the meeting. During the exercise, he supervised the prompt removal of an obstruction at Mowe, preventing a potential traffic buildup. The Corps reiterated its commitment to ensuring safety on the highway and urged motorists to obey traffic rules, particularly speed limits and lane discipline. The Public Education Officer, FRSC Ogun State Sector Command, Afolabi Odunsi, disclosed these in a statement made available to journalists.
