PoliticsKalejaye Raises Alarm Over Rising Terror Attacks, Seeks Emergency Rule by Yemmytt(op): 10:27am On Jun 12
By Our Correspondent

An Ibadan-based legal practitioner and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Asiwaju Kunle Kalejaye, has urged President Bola Tinubu to declare a national emergency on banditry, kidnapping and terrorism to stem the worsening insecurity across the country.

Kalejaye, who is also the Chairman of Eagle FM, Ijebu-Ode, made the call in his Democracy Day message, describing the persistent wave of violent crimes as a national embarrassment that has tarnished Nigeria's image both locally and internationally.

The legal luminary said the Federal Government must adopt more decisive and far-reaching measures to tackle insecurity before it further weakens the nation's security architecture.
According to him, the growing activities of bandits, kidnappers and terrorists could erode public confidence in the country's security institutions, particularly the military, if urgent steps are not taken to address the situation.
He noted that the credibility of the Nigerian Armed Forces was already being threatened by the increasing use of military uniforms by criminal elements during attacks.

Kalejaye warned that continued impersonation of military personnel by criminals could diminish the prestige and integrity traditionally associated with the armed forces, exposing them to public distrust and ridicule.

While acknowledging efforts being made by the Tinubu administration to combat insecurity, he maintained that such measures might not achieve the desired results without a clear national declaration underscoring the country's resolve to defeat terrorism.

He said, "A declaration of national emergency on terrorism will send a strong signal that Nigeria rejects violence in all its forms and is prepared to deploy every available resource to eliminate it."

The SAN further called on the Federal Government to formulate and implement concrete strategies aimed at crushing terrorist networks, warning that criminal groups had become increasingly daring in their operations.

According to him, the activities of bandits and kidnappers are no longer restricted to rural communities but are gradually spreading into major towns and urban centres.

Kalejaye argued that celebrating democratic governance amid persistent insecurity undermines the essence of democracy and projects a negative image of the country.

He stressed that safeguarding lives and property remains one of the primary constitutional responsibilities of government, adding that security management must be proactive rather than reactive.

The senior lawyer said threats to national security should be identified and neutralised before they become too formidable to contain.

He therefore reiterated his call on President Tinubu to immediately declare a national emergency on terrorism and related crimes, insisting that such a move would demonstrate Nigeria's determination to eradicate violent criminality.

"It is left to President Tinubu to save our nation at this perilous time," Kalejaye stated.

Career430 Ogun Police Officers Promoted, Ojajuni Charges Personnel On Professionalism by Yemmytt(op): 3:53pm On Jun 10
By Our Correspondent, Abeokuta

The Ogun State Police Command has promoted no fewer than 430 junior police officers, describing the exercise as part of efforts to boost personnel welfare, morale and professionalism in the force.

The Command's Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday, noting that the promotion exercise was in line with the welfare-driven leadership of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun's successor, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu.

According to the statement, the Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, CP Bode Ojajuni, decorated the newly promoted officers at the command headquarters and other police formations across the state.

The beneficiaries comprised six Sergeants elevated to the rank of Inspector, four Corporals promoted to Sergeant, and 420 Constables advanced to the rank of Corporal.

Babaseyi said the exercise underscored the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to rewarding diligence, professionalism and dedication to duty among its personnel.

Speaking during the ceremony, Ojajuni described the promotions as a demonstration of the Inspector-General of Police's commitment to the welfare, motivation and career progression of officers and men of the force.

He noted that prompt promotion remained a critical tool for enhancing morale and encouraging personnel to remain dedicated to their constitutional responsibilities.

The police commissioner congratulated the beneficiaries and urged them to see their elevation as a call to higher responsibility, discipline and professionalism.

He charged the officers to uphold the core values of the Nigeria Police Force by carrying out their duties with integrity, respect for human rights and commitment to the rule of law.

Ojajuni further assured that the Ogun State Police Command would continue to prioritise personnel welfare and support initiatives aimed at strengthening institutional capacity, improving operational effectiveness and promoting excellence in service delivery in line with global best practices in policing.

PoliticsAPC Faults Iyabo Obasanjo’s Exit, Says She Enjoyed Level Playing Field by Yemmytt(op): 5:37pm On Jun 09
ABEOKUTA. The Ogun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has dismissed allegations made by former Senator Iyabo Obasanjo in her resignation letter, insisting that she was accorded equal treatment and a level playing field during her brief membership of the party.

The party said Obasanjo, who recently resigned from the APC citing alleged disrespect, intimidation of supporters and other grievances, enjoyed the same rights, privileges and opportunities available to every other aspirant in the build-up to the party’s governorship primary election.

In a statement issued by the Ogun APC Publicity Secretary, Comrade Femi Nuberu, the party maintained that its internal processes were transparent, inclusive and free from discrimination.

Nuberu said the APC welcomed the former senator from the Peoples Democratic Party only weeks before the commencement of the governorship primary process and ensured that all aspirants competed on equal terms.

According to him, the primary process eventually produced a consensus candidate, an arrangement which Obasanjo publicly accepted and pledged to support in the interest of party unity and inclusiveness.

The party described several claims contained in her resignation letter as inconsistent with the realities of her experience in the APC, stressing that there was no basis for allegations of exclusion, intimidation or unfair treatment.

“The party welcomed Senator Iyabo Obasanjo and accorded her all the rights, privileges and opportunities available to every other aspirant. The process remained transparent, inclusive and democratic throughout,” Nuberu stated.

The APC further argued that Obasanjo’s decision to leave the party barely weeks after joining it appeared to reinforce the perception that her membership was largely tied to the pursuit of the governorship ticket rather than a long-term commitment to the party’s ideals and objectives.

The party noted that several respected leaders and aspirants who did not secure their desired outcomes during its internal processes had remained loyal, placing the collective interest of the party above personal ambition.

According to Nuberu, politics thrives on loyalty, patience, sacrifice and commitment to shared ideals, adding that democratic contests naturally produce winners and losers.

He said, “True party faithful are distinguished by their willingness to remain committed to the collective cause regardless of personal outcomes.”

The APC also questioned the timing of Obasanjo’s resignation, noting that aspects of the governorship primary process were still ongoing when she tendered her resignation letter, making it difficult to reconcile some of the grievances she raised.

While reaffirming its commitment to unity, inclusiveness and democratic principles, the party said it respected Obasanjo’s constitutional right to freedom of association and wished her well in her future political endeavours.

The statement added that the APC remains focused on strengthening its structures and working towards electoral success in Ogun State.

The Ogun State Police Command has rescued one of four persons abducted during an attack on a private dredging site at Magbon Etido, Mowe, while a suspected member of the criminal gang responsible for the incident has been neutralised.
The Command also confirmed the death of a soldier who was on security duty at the site during the attack, while another soldier sustained injuries and is currently receiving treatment.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed this in a statement on Monday, noting that the attackers invaded the dredging site and abducted four persons before fleeing into the bush.
According to him, police operatives, in collaboration with the military and other security stakeholders, immediately launched coordinated search-and-rescue operations, leading to the successful rescue of one of the victims.
Babaseyi, however, said the remains of the other three abducted victims were later recovered during the operation.
He added that a local hunter who joined security operatives in the bush-combing exercise was also killed during an encounter with the fleeing criminals.
"The Command extends its condolences to the family of the deceased hunter," the police spokesman stated.
The police further revealed that sustained tactical pressure mounted by the joint security team led to the neutralisation of one of the suspects, while efforts were ongoing to apprehend other members of the gang.
Babaseyi clarified that contrary to speculations in some quarters, the incident was not a bandit operation but an isolated criminal attack.
He said preliminary investigations had not established any link between the attackers and banditry activities, adding that security agencies had reinforced their presence in the area to prevent any further security breach.
The PPRO assured residents that the situation had been brought under control and urged members of the public to remain calm as investigations and tactical operations continued to track down the remaining suspects.

CrimeOgun Police Bust Transnational Fake Kidnap Syndicate, Arrest 8 Foreign National by Yemmytt(op): 2:21pm On Jun 08
The Ogun State Police Command has uncovered a transnational criminal syndicate allegedly involved in staging fake kidnappings to extort ransom from unsuspecting families abroad, leading to the arrest of eight foreign nationals in the Agbado area of the state.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the suspects were apprehended by detectives attached to the Ifo Divisional Headquarters during an intelligence-led operation coordinated by the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Olabisi Kamorudeen.

Babaseyi disclosed that the operation followed a report received on June 6, 2026, from a concerned informant who alerted the police that a 23-year-old foreign national had contacted his family overseas, claiming he had been kidnapped in Nigeria and demanding ransom for his release.

The police spokesman said investigations revealed that another member of the syndicate reinforced the ransom demand by threatening that the purported victim would be killed if payment was not made, prompting detectives to launch a swift intelligence-driven operation.

“Technical intelligence and sustained surveillance subsequently traced the suspects to a hideout in Adiyan Town, Agbado, where operatives arrested a key suspect who later led investigators to the syndicate’s base, resulting in the arrest of seven other foreign nationals,” Babaseyi stated.

He explained that preliminary findings showed that the alleged kidnapping was entirely staged as part of a coordinated criminal enterprise aimed at defrauding the victim’s family abroad.

Investigators further established that the supposed victim was an active participant in the scheme, while other members of the group played various roles, including luring him into Nigeria and coordinating the ransom demands.

The police spokesperson added that the principal suspects had confessed to their involvement in the conspiracy, while investigations were ongoing to determine the full scope of the syndicate’s activities and possible links to other transnational criminal networks.

According to him, the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further discreet investigation.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the professionalism, discipline and swift response of the detectives whose intelligence-led efforts exposed and dismantled the criminal network.

Ojajuni noted that the case underscores the growing sophistication of transnational criminal activities and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to proactive policing, intelligence gathering and sustained operations against organised crime.

The commissioner assured residents that Ogun State would remain hostile to criminal elements, adding that the command would continue to strengthen internal and cross-border collaboration to enhance public safety.

He also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities, particularly incidents involving alleged kidnappings and ransom demands, to enable timely intervention by security agencies.
CrimeOgun Police Debunk Resurfaced ‘bandits’ Video, Say Footage Was Filmed In Kenya by Yemmytt(op): 3:00pm On Jun 07
The Ogun State Police Command has again dismissed a viral video purportedly showing armed bandits operating in a forest in the state, describing the footage as false, misleading and deliberately recycled to create panic among residents.

The Command said preliminary investigations and independent fact-checks established that the video did not originate from Ogun State or any part of Nigeria, contrary to claims accompanying its circulation on social media.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the footage showing some individuals in a bush setting was recorded in Kenya during an operation involving cattle rustlers and was captured by a General Service Unit drone.

Babaseyi stated that further verification revealed that the video was first uploaded online in 2022 and has since been repeatedly recirculated with a false narrative aimed at misinforming the public about the security situation in Ogun State.

He noted that despite previous clarifications issued by the Command debunking the footage, the same video had resurfaced online, allegedly being shared by individuals intent on spreading fear and misinformation among residents.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, condemned the circulation of unverified and deceptive content, warning that such actions were capable of causing unnecessary fear and undermining public confidence in security agencies.

Ojajuni stressed that there was no intelligence, operational or security report to support claims of the presence of armed bandits or criminal camps in any forest or community within Ogun State.

The police chief reassured residents that the Command remained committed to the protection of lives and property through intelligence-led policing, strategic deployments and sustained security operations across the state.

He urged members of the public to disregard the viral video and refrain from sharing unverified information capable of inciting panic or disrupting public peace, adding that residents should rely only on official communication channels for credible security updates.

The Commissioner also called on citizens to continue supporting the police with timely and useful information, warning that the spread of false and inciting content would not be tolerated.
The Command maintained that Ogun State remains safe, peaceful and secure, reiterating its commitment to preserving law and order across the state.

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested two suspected members of a kidnapping syndicate wanted in connection with an abduction and murder case in Okada, Edo State.

The Command's Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday saying preliminary investigations conducted by operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit linked the suspects to the crime under investigation in Edo State.

According to the police spokesman, the suspects, identified as Gafaru Adamu, 25, and Muhammed Sanni, 20, were initially apprehended in the Atiba area of Ijebu-Ode by personnel of the Nigeria Forest Security Service and subsequently handed over to the police for further investigation.

Babaseyi stated that intelligence-driven profiling and extensive investigations revealed that the duo were wanted in connection with an ongoing kidnapping and murder case reported in the Okada area of Edo State. He added that further intelligence indicated that the suspects were members of a seven-man kidnapping syndicate allegedly involved in the incident.

The police spokesperson further disclosed that operatives recovered one pair of police camouflage uniform and three mobile phones from the suspects during the investigation. He noted that the recovered exhibits had been documented and taken into custody to support ongoing investigations.

He explained that since the alleged offences were committed outside Ogun State, the suspects and all recovered exhibits would be transferred to the Edo State Police Command, which has jurisdiction over the case, for further investigation and prosecution in line with established inter-state policing procedures.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the professionalism and intelligence-gathering efforts of the operatives whose actions led to the identification of the suspects and recovery of vital exhibits.

Ojajuni reiterated the Command's determination to prevent criminal elements from using Ogun State as a safe haven or transit route for unlawful activities, assuring residents that intelligence-led policing, proactive security measures and collaboration with other state commands would continue to be strengthened.

The police also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and provide timely and credible information to security agencies to support the ongoing fight against crime and criminality.

HealthFear, Panic And Questions: Toxic Odour Hits Ijebu-ode Schools For Third Time by Yemmytt(op): 5:31pm On Jun 03
THIRD TIME IN THREE MONTHS: Mystery Fumes Strike Ijebu-Ode Schools Again as Students Hospitalised

By Yemmytt
For the third time in five months, a mysterious and unpleasant odour has thrown the ancient town of Ijebu-Ode into anxiety, sending students and teachers scrambling for safety and reigniting concerns over the safety of public schools in the area.

The latest incident occurred at Our Lady of Apostles Secondary School (OLAS), Ijebu-Ode, where students and staff suddenly began complaining of dizziness, coughing, breathing difficulties and general discomfort after an unidentified fume reportedly spread across parts of the school environment. The development disrupted academic activities and triggered panic among parents and residents.

Several affected students were evacuated and rushed to the General Hospital, Ijebu-Ode, where they received medical attention. While no fatalities have been reported, the incident has once again raised questions about the source of the recurring health hazard and whether enough is being done to protect schoolchildren.

What has made the situation even more troubling is the recurring pattern. Similar incidents were reported on April 1 and May 15, 2026, with students from both Our Lady of Apostles Secondary School and Anglican Girls Grammar School (AGGS) experiencing comparable symptoms after exposure to unidentified fumes.

In each case, affected students required medical attention, while investigations reportedly failed to provide clear answers to concerned residents.
The latest occurrence has intensified public concern because the incidents appear to be concentrated around government-owned schools.

Residents point out that while OLAS and AGGS have repeatedly been affected, no similar cases have been reported in private schools within the same locality. This observation has fuelled speculation about possible environmental factors unique to the affected areas and renewed calls for a comprehensive investigation.

Parents and community leaders are demanding urgent action from relevant authorities. Environmental experts note that potential causes could range from industrial emissions and improper waste disposal to generator exhaust, underground chemical contamination or other environmental hazards. However, until scientific testing is conducted and findings made public, the true source remains unknown.

Stakeholders insist that the recurring incidents can no longer be dismissed as isolated events. They are calling on the Ogun State Government, the Ministry of Environment, emergency management agencies, health authorities and security agencies to jointly investigate the matter, conduct air and soil quality assessments around the affected schools and ensure that students are not exposed to further danger.

The growing concern is not only about the immediate health effects on affected students but also the potential long-term consequences of repeated exposure to unidentified substances. Medical experts warn that without proper diagnosis and monitoring, it may be difficult to determine the extent of any lasting impact on the children.

As students continue to receive treatment and families await answers, many residents believe the latest incident should serve as a wake-up call for authorities. For a community that has now witnessed three similar episodes within five months, the demand is simple: identify the source, eliminate the threat and guarantee the safety of every child in school.

For the people of Ijebu-Ode, this is no longer merely an environmental concern. It is a public health emergency demanding urgent attention before another outbreak occurs.

Governor Dapo Abiodun disclosed this on Wednesday while hosting members of the League of Imams and Alfas at his Iperu residence in celebration of Eid-el-Kabir.

The governor said the initiative became necessary following recent security concerns in neighbouring states, stressing that his administration was determined to take proactive measures to secure educational institutions and protect the future of children in Ogun State.

Abiodun explained that the security arrangement would involve the deployment of conventional security agencies alongside local security outfits such as the So-Safe Corps, Amotekun Corps, hunters and vigilante groups to monitor and secure schools across the state.

According to him, traditional rulers, religious leaders and law enforcement agencies would also collaborate to ensure effective coordination and surveillance around schools.

“We have decided to engage the services of our security agencies, including the So-Safe Corps, Amotekun Corps, hunters and other vigilante groups, to provide security in our schools. We need to do this to protect the lives of our future generation,” the governor said.

He added that the state government would provide stipends to support the security initiative, noting that implementation would commence immediately across the state.

Governor Abiodun stated that the initiative was designed to prevent a recurrence of incidents recorded in some neighbouring states, reaffirming that the safety and well-being of schoolchildren remained a top priority of his administration.

While acknowledging the role of prayers in sustaining peace and stability, the governor stressed the importance of practical measures in addressing security challenges.

“We must ensure that we put this kind of structure in place to guarantee the protection of our future generation currently being nurtured in various schools,” he added.

The governor also announced the inauguration of a “Direct Impact Committee” to identify and address pressing needs in communities across the state.

He said the committee would facilitate the provision of essential amenities such as transformers, boreholes and solar streetlights based on the peculiar needs of different communities.

Abiodun further disclosed that the initiative would provide monthly financial support to 10 persons in each of the 5,043 polling units across the 236 wards in the state as part of efforts to cushion economic hardship at the grassroots.
He assured traditional rulers and religious leaders of active participation in the selection process for beneficiaries, describing them as critical stakeholders closest to the people.

The governor commended religious leaders for their prayers and continued support for peace and peaceful coexistence in the state, noting that stability remained essential for socio-economic development.

“You have contributed immensely to the peace we currently enjoy in our state. Development cannot thrive in a chaotic environment. Please do not stop praying for us,” he said.

The incident reportedly sparked fear among parents, students and residents who suspected that the strange movement of the men could be linked to a possible attack on the community.

Eyewitness accounts indicated that the unidentified individuals were allegedly seen moving around the F.A Farm axis and Oluwapelumi Estate on Sunday evening before some students reportedly sighted men lurking in the bush behind the school premises on Monday morning.

The development caused pandemonium within the school as frightened students raised alarm, prompting many parents to rush to the school to evacuate their children amid fears of an impending attack.

HealthIjebu Congress Raises Alarm Over Repeated Toxic Gas Emissions In Ogun Communiti by Yemmytt(op): 11:25am On May 16
IJEBU ODE. The Association of Ijebu Sons & Daughters has expressed deep concern over the recurring incidents of suspected toxic gas emissions affecting schools and communities across Ijebu land in Ogun State, describing the development as disturbing and unacceptable.

In a press release issued on Friday and signed by the Global Secretary of the association, Alhaji Otunba Hammed Gafari, and the Global Chairman, Prince Bunmi Mebude, the group lamented that the latest incidents occurred barely weeks after a similar outbreak at Our Lady of Apostles Girls High School, Ijebu-Ode.

The association noted that fresh cases of suspected toxic gas emissions were reported on Friday at Anglican Girls Grammar School and Hope Immaculate High School in Ijebu-Ode, as well as at St. Anthony’s Grammar School in Ijebu Imusin.

According to the statement, eyewitnesses said the incidents caused panic among students and residents, with several persons reportedly affected and rushed to hospitals for treatment.

The group cited the case of a parent at Hope Immaculate High School who reportedly lamented that his daughter remained unconscious for over four hours before she was revived after medical intervention said to have cost nearly N170,000.

The Ijebu Congress questioned the outcome of investigations into the earlier incident at Our Lady of Apostles Girls High School, asking whether the Ogun State Government had released any preliminary or final report on the matter.

The association also demanded clarification on whether methane gas had been officially identified as the substance responsible for the emissions and why such incidents continued to occur around schools in the area.

“We are not just thoroughly concerned, we are deeply disturbed,” the statement read, stressing that repeated occurrences of the incidents suggested that adequate preventive measures had not been taken after the first outbreak.

The group called on the Ogun State Government, Ijebu-Ode Local Government and other relevant authorities to urgently investigate the source of the emissions and put measures in place to prevent future occurrences.

The association emphasized the need to safeguard the lives of students and residents, noting that the safety and wellbeing of children must remain a top priority for government at all levels.

EducationChemical Odour At Ijebu-Ode Schools, 90 Students Injured, Hospitalised by Yemmytt(op): 12:43pm On May 15
Barely one month after a chemical odour incident at Our Lady of Apostles Girls School in Ijebu-Ode, another suspected chemical emission has affected more than 90 students across several schools in the ancient town, triggering panic among residents, parents and school authorities.

Many parents and guardians were seen rushing to schools to evacuate their children as the strange odour spread across parts of the city on Thursday.

Dozens of affected students were reportedly rescued and taken by emergency responders to the State Hospital in Ijebu-Ode for medical attention.

A medical official at the hospital disclosed that many of the students complained of abdominal pain and other health-related symptoms.

Some of the affected schools include Our Lady of Apostles Girls School, Anglican Girls Grammar School, Ijebu-Ode Grammar School, Sambadola Private School and other schools around the Epe Garage and Obalende areas of Ijebu-Ode.

The latest incident comes barely a month after several students in the town reportedly suffered health complications linked to a similar chemical odour outbreak.

Eyewitnesses said the strange smell also spread to surrounding communities and streets within the area, causing anxiety among residents.

As of the time of filing this report, government officials were yet to arrive at the State Hospital, where many of the affected students were receiving treatment.

However, the Commissioner for Education, Professor Abayomi Arigbabu, later visited the hospital and appealed to parents to remain calm and allow medical personnel to attend to the affected students.

According to him, environmental officials from both federal and state agencies had been contacted for urgent intervention.

Speaking on the development, the General Manager of the Ogun State Environmental Protection Agency, Ogun State Environmental Protection Agency, Kehinde Bello, said the air quality monitoring device installed at Ijebu-Ode Grammar School detected elevated methane concentrations within parts of the town.

He disclosed that the device recorded methane levels peaking at approximately 13,500 parts per million (ppm) in some surrounding locations.

Bello explained that the monitoring equipment was deployed as part of the state government’s environmental surveillance programme aimed at detecting abnormal air quality conditions and supporting early public health response.

He noted that although the methane concentration remained below the lower explosive limit, the readings were environmentally significant and required immediate technical investigation and precautionary measures.

According to him, the Ogun State Government has activated a multi-agency environmental and public health assessment team comprising environmental regulators, emergency response agencies and air quality experts.

He advised residents to remain calm, continue normal activities, but avoid open flames or ignition sources in areas where unusual gas odours are detected.

“Any symptoms such as dizziness, headaches, nausea or respiratory discomfort should be promptly reported to nearby health facilities,” he stated.

Bello added that the Ogun State Government remains committed to protecting public health and environmental safety, assuring residents that further updates would be provided as investigations progress.

Health*mysterious Odour Sparks Fresh Panic In Ijebu Ode Schools, Markets And Residents by Yemmytt(op): 11:51am On May 15
Our Reporter
Residents of Ijebu Ode have again been thrown into confusion and fear following another outbreak of a strange and unidentified smell that forced the closure of several schools across the town, barely two months after similar incidents unsettled the area without any conclusive explanation from authorities.
The latest development has heightened anxiety among parents, traders and residents, many of whom lamented what they described as the inability of the state government and relevant agencies to unravel the source of the recurring odour.
The incident reportedly resurfaced at Our Lady of Apostles School located around the Epe Garage area of Ijebu Ode, where students and staff were said to have perceived a strong irritating smell within the school premises, leading to panic and the immediate dismissal of students as a precautionary measure.
Sources within the community disclosed that similar reports were also recorded at Anglican Girls Grammar School, Irewon Community High School and Ifesowapo Grammar School, causing apprehension among parents who hurried to pick up their children from the affected schools.
Some students were said to have complained of discomfort, dizziness and breathing difficulty, while parents and guardians expressed fears over the possible health implications of the recurring incident.
The development reportedly disrupted academic activities in the affected schools as managements opted for early closure to safeguard students and members of staff pending further clarification on the cause of the strange smell.
Residents who spoke on the incident wondered why the mysterious odour appeared to be affecting mainly schools, with little or no report from markets, streets or other public places within the town.
A resident who identified herself as Mrs. Adebanjo described the situation as disturbing and called on security agencies and environmental authorities to urgently investigate the matter before it escalates further.
According to her, “What is happening is becoming frightening because it seems to be occurring mostly in schools. Parents are worried and the government needs to act fast to reassure the public.”
Traders at some markets in Ijebu Ode also expressed concern over the growing tension in the community, saying the repeated incidents had created fear among residents and affected commercial activities in parts of the town.
Another resident, Mr. Sola Akinyemi, lamented that despite previous occurrences, no official explanation had been provided to the public.
He said the silence surrounding the incidents was fueling speculation and fear among residents who now worry about the safety of their children.
As of the time of filing this report, authorities were yet to issue any official statement on the immediate cause of the odour or whether investigations were ongoing.
Parents and guardians have, however, been advised to closely monitor their children for symptoms such as nausea, dizziness or respiratory discomfort and seek medical attention where necessary.
The recurring incidents have continued to raise questions among residents over possible environmental pollution, chemical exposure or other underlying factors responsible for the mysterious smell spreading across schools in Ijebu Ode.

CultureCourt Sacks Oniro Of Iro, Orders Monarch To Vacate Throne After 13 Years by Yemmytt(op): 2:52pm On May 13
The Ogun State High Court sitting in Ota has nullified the installation of the Oniro of Iro, Oba Najeem Aromaye, ordering him to vacate the throne 13 years after his emergence as monarch.

Justice O.O. Osunfisan, who delivered judgment on Tuesday in Suit No: AB/292/2013, held that the nomination, appointment and installation of Aromaye were unlawful, illegal and contrary to the approved chieftaincy declaration regulating the Oniro stool.

The court consequently set aside his appointment and awarded N1 million cost against the defendants.
The suit was instituted by late Prince Adeleke Joseph Oniyide Adebari and Prince Kamoru Akindele Adebari on behalf of members of the Oleyo Ruling House of Iro Township.

Counsel to the claimants, Barrister Saliu Bakare, had argued that Aromaye neither belonged to the Oleyo Ruling House nor to any of the three recognised ruling houses entitled to produce candidates for the Oniro stool.

The court heard that Iro Township has three recognised ruling houses — Oleyo, Apetu-Mata and Eribi — which are expected to produce candidates for the stool on rotational basis.

Following the death of the last monarch from the Eribi Ruling House, Oba Gafar Ayinla Sanusi Ogunrinde-Oyero IV, in May 2012, the Oleyo Ruling House was expected to nominate the next Oniro.

However, evidence before the court showed that members of the Oleyo family declined to present a candidate after deliberations, citing the absence of a qualified nominee who met the requirements laid down by the Iro Council of Chiefs, particularly in education and influence.

The family subsequently ceded its turn to the Apetu-Mata Ruling House in the interest of peace and development within the community.

Despite the resolution, the Iro Council of Chiefs allegedly ignored the decision and presented Aromaye as a candidate, claiming he emerged from the Oleyo Ruling House.

The claimants maintained before the court that Aromaye was not a member of the Oleyo lineage and had no connection with any of the recognised ruling houses entitled to produce a candidate for the throne.

Court documents further revealed that protests and petitions written by members of the Oleyo family to relevant authorities, including the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, were allegedly ignored, leading to Aromaye’s installation in 2014.

The claimants also established that the installation was carried out despite a subsisting court order restraining the defendants from proceeding with the process pending the determination of the suit.
In his judgment, Justice Osunfisan upheld the claims of the plaintiffs and declared that Aromaye was not entitled to occupy the throne.

The court ruled that the provisions of the Oniro of Iro Chieftaincy Declaration of 1965 and the Chiefs Law of Ogun State were breached during the selection process.

Justice Osunfisan consequently ordered Aromaye to vacate the throne forthwith and restrained him perpetually from parading himself as the Oniro of Iro.

The court also barred the Ogun State Government, the Iro Council of Chiefs and other defendants from according him recognition, rights, privileges or entitlements as a traditional ruler.

The judgment brings to an end a protracted legal battle spanning more than a decade, which had continued to generate tension within the Iro community.

The Ogun State Waste Management Authority (OGWAMA) has sealed an automobile assembly company, Carry Heavy Industry Limited, for allegedly engaging in illegal burning of waste materials in violation of the state environmental laws.
The company, located at Moloko-Asipa area near Abeokuta, was shut down for contravening Section 2b(a) of the OGWAMA law, which prohibits individuals and corporate organisations from burning waste within the state.
Special Adviser to the Governor on Waste Management and Managing Director of OGWAMA, Farouk Akintunde, disclosed this on Sunday, stating that the agency was left with no option after several warnings issued to the management of the company failed to yield compliance.
Akintunde explained that the company had repeatedly been advised to subscribe to the services of government-approved Private Sector Participants (PSPs) for proper waste disposal instead of resorting to open burning.
According to him, the act exposed workers and residents in the surrounding communities to serious health hazards caused by toxic emissions and environmental pollution.
He stressed that the Ogun State Government places high premium on the health and wellbeing of residents, noting that indiscriminate burning of waste remains unacceptable under the current environmental regulations in the state.
The OGWAMA boss further stated that the company would remain sealed until it complies fully with the extant waste management laws by registering with accredited PSP operators for lawful disposal of waste, or risk further legal sanctions.
Meanwhile, the agency also sanctioned Camellin Industry Limited, located along the Sagamu Interchange axis of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, over a similar offence.
Akintunde revealed that the company was found culpable of burning waste materials within its premises, an act he described as detrimental to the health of workers and the immediate environment.
He added that the management of the company has been invited by the agency as part of ongoing enforcement measures aimed at ensuring compliance with environmental regulations across the state.
