It was a narrow escape for Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff (COAS ), Major General Tukur Yusuf Buratai on Saturday as his convoy was ambushed by suspected Boko Haram gunmen while going from Maiduguri to Dikwa, near the border with Cameroon. Colonel Sani usman, in a statement narrating the encounter said the the leading column of the convoy was ambushed by suspected Boko Haram terrorists at Faljari village between Mafa and Dikwa. According to him, the terrorists encountered an overwhelming fire power from the troops in which 10 of them were killed. The troops captured five terrorists. “During the encounter, sadly, we lost a soldier, while an officer andfour soldiers sustained gun shot wounds. The arrested terrorists have been sent for interrogation while the remains of the gallant soldier and the wounded soldiers were evacuated back to Maiduguri. “The wounded soldiers are stable and responding to treatment at 7 Division Hospital and Medical Services. At Dikwa, the COAS interacted with a mammoth crowd of internally displaced persons where he assured them of their safety,” said Usman. He added that General Buratai thereafter addressed some elements of 112 Battalion and he told them that the Boko Haram terrorists should not have any freedom of action or movement within their area of responsibility. The 140km journey, said to be a dangerous trip, was to serve as a morale booster to the troops fighting Boko Haram terrorists with Buratai visiting them in the frontline of their operations. The COAS visited troops at Mafa, Dikwa and Logomani, in Borno State, Sani Usman, public relations officer of the Nigerian Army said. At 112 Battalion at Mafa, the COAS commended the troops and enjoined them to continue to be hardworking and dedicated. At Logomani, where troops of 7 Division Strike Group where refitting, Usman said the COAS informed them that Nigerians are very proud of them. Usman recalled that the unit recaptured Dikwa and now heading to the next objective. He also said that he was adequately briefed by the GOC 7 Div about their problem. According to Usman, the COAS also delivered President Buhari’s goodwill message. “One interesting aspect of the visit was that Nigerian Air Force led by the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal SB Abubakar gave air cover and conducted armed air recconnaissance on the general area. While the IDPS were excited with presence of the COAS , troops at various locations were equally in high spirit and good to go. “The troops indicated their readiness to carry out assigned tasks,” Usman said Source: PM News

Olamide and Oritsefemi, are reportedly engaged in a silent feud following a collaboration with fast-rising Afro-pop singer, Sossi. Sossi featured Oritsefemi and Olamide in the remix of his popular track, “Sebee”. Sossi and his management reportedly paid Olamide N1.5 million for him to feature in the remix while Oritsefemi was allegedly paid N500,000. A close source opened up to Vanguard on the issue. According to the source, Oritsefemi is not happy with Sossi and his record label because he believes Olamide is his junior in the music industry and he should be paid more. The source said “He’s believed to be angry with Sossi and his management over their decision to pay him less fee as against Olamide, who he perceived to be his junior in the music industry.” As at the time of filing this report Oristefemi and Olamide are yet to release an official statement. Vanguard reached out to Sossi’s manager, Michael, he said he was not aware of the issue and he will look into it. Source: Gistreel

The Rock. Here's a fun story to start your week off... I'm driving to set in my pick up truck - music blasting - I'm singing away like I'm having a one man party in my truck - then I hear a loud BANG. What the hell..? Look in my rear view and see I sideswiped another pick up that was parked in the street and destroyed the side mirror. First thing I thought was, "Aw shit.. someone's not gonna be happy..". I flipped a U-turn and drove back to scene. Just as I got out of my truck a guy was walking across the street to his truck. I said "Sir, is this your truck?". He stopped and stared at me for a good 5 seconds, looked around his neighborhood, looked back at me and "Yes it is. Why?". I said "Well, sorry to tell ya I sideswiped it and knocked the hell outta your mirror and may have done even more damage. You give me your info and I'll leave you mine and I'll take care of everything". He stared at me again, cocked his head sideways and said.."Uhhh.. Are you The Rock?". I said "Yup". He broke out into a huge smile and said "Wow, this is gonna be an awesome story!". I started belly laughing at that, then he started laughing and before you know it we're both standing in the middle of the street pointing to his mirror and laughing like two ol' crazy buddies. I checked back in with him a few days later and he refused to accept any money and said he fixed the damage himself. Want to thank Mr. Audie Bridges of Wakefield, Mass. for being so cool about the whole thing. Life is funny cause you never know who you're gonna run into... and sure as hell never know who's truck you're gonna sideswipe while driving to work.
