Education / Unilorin Pharmacists' Induction Ceremony: Setting The Record Straight by yns4real: 7:23pm On Sep 01, 2019 |
*Unilorin Pharmacists' Induction Ceremony: Setting the Record Straight* In a fresh display of crass ignorance of procedures in a Federal University, and a pitiable show of contempt for minimum standard and unpardonable disregard for basic rules and regulations, those who have taken it upon themselves to rubbish anything, just anything, coming from the University of Ilorin, without considering its necessity or good intention, are at their shameless game once again! Hiding behind the faceless name, Tijani_Faraday, these mischief makers took to the social media last weekend in a fruitless attempt to rubbish the well-groomed image of the University while maligning the character of its Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Sulyman Age Abdulkareem. These enemies of progress tried to paint a very strange picture of what actually happened during the 4th Induction/Oath Taking Ceremony for the University's new Pharmacy graduates in a well-attended and very solemn occasion that took place in the University Main Auditorium last Friday. It is pertinent to put the record straight not because the hireling is worth the trouble but because what is in a name is beyond a mere means of identification. By choice, the University of Ilorin is an institution governed by a carefully and altruistically formulated set of rules and regulations, especially as it concerns strict adherence to academic calendar. And our Vice-Chancellor, a thorough-bred Unilorite, is an unrepentant stickler to due process, whatever the situation and no matter whose ox is gored. We are not in the habit of bending the rules or cutting corners! This is one of the hallmarks of our well-acknowledged excellence in the comity of the nation's educational institutions. To start with, the writer alleged that the Vice-Chancellor "suddenly cancelled and stripped graduands off (sic) their gowns". But every right thinking person would and should know that in the operations of a university system (a Federal University for that matter) no Vice-Chancellor has such power to outrightly cancel the graduation ceremony of the students. Everybody present at the programme can confirm that registration of the attendees by the assigned ushers was what was happening at the venue, a normal procedure in all public events, to screen out undesirable elements like this Phantom Faraday and his cohort! In this era of technological advancement, one would have expected the ignoramus to have supported his claim that the Vice-Chancellor stripped graduands of their gowns with relevant pictures and/or video recordings rather than the picture of the proceeding of the programme he used. The mischief merchant could have taken his time to confirm that the immediate past Dean of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences is Dr. Ayanniyi and not the late Prof. AbdulKareem Agunnu. Since he has no respect for the soul of the late Prof. Agunnu to have shamelessly lied against him that he approved a waiver for a course during his lifetime, one is not so surprised what such a fellow could do to the living. No sound minded person would ever believe Faraday's blatant lie against our well respected late Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Agunnu that he single-handedly approved a waiver of any course without the knowledge of the Faculty Board of Examiners, the Business Committee of Senate, because, and the Unuversity Senate itself. If any such move was made, the Vice-Chancellor would have equally been part of the decision as the Chairman of the Senate. Isn't that another ignorance displayed by this warped mind on how a university is run? All organisations and individuals that have dealings with the University of Ilorin, know very well that the University has a well respected principle of keeping to time. This principle could even be described as inborn for Prof. Sulyman AbdulKareem as he is always punctual at all the events he is billed to attend, much less the one he is to preside over, like the Pharmacists Induction Ceremony under reference. The little delay in the commencement of the programme was not caused by the Vice-Chancellor, as the hack writer insinuated. Indeed, it was in an attempt to comply with due process and ensure that academic and professional standards were not compromised that the programme got a little delayed. And at the end of the day, both the inductees and their parents were the happier for it. The Vice-Chancellor should be commended for his magnanimity to have graciously given executive approval, on that Friday morning, for the additional names recently considered by the Business Committee of Senate, because, ahead of the next Senate meeting. And indeed, as the ceremony proceeded, the Registrar of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria, PSN, Pharm. N.A.E. Mohammed, who was represented on the occasion by the Head of Education and Training, PSN, Dr. Julius Idoko, and the Ag. Dean of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Dr. Olushola Aremu, duly acknowledged this and publicly thanked the Vice-Chancellor profusely for his magnanimity in their separate speeches. Meanwhile, the Best Graduating Student for the 2018/2019 Session is Pharm. Abdulganiy Yusuf and not Lawal Azeemat Adeola, as shamelessly proclaimed by Faraday. The Induction Ceremony was an interesting and well attended programme by the inductees, their proud parents, staff members of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, friends and other well wishers. We are pretty sure that in years to come, the inductees will continue to treasure the pictures where they were individually having handshakes with the Vice-Chancellor! In conclusion, we want to advise Faraday to advise his candidate, if he/she is among those that fail to make the graduating list, to look for another excuse rather than trying to soil the golden image of the University of Ilorin and the hard-earned good name of our hardworking and humane Vice-Chancellor. Indeed, there is a limit to mischief! Signed Kunle Akogun Director, Corporate Affairs, University of Ilorin.

Politics / Rasaq Momonu: Court Orders Forfeiture Of 150m Plaza Owned By Kwara Civil Servant by yns4real: 3:40pm On Aug 01, 2019 |
A Kwara State High Court sitting in Ilorin, on Thursday, ordered the final forfeiture of a plaza valued at N150 million belonging to a civil servant in Kwara State, Rasaq Momonu to the Federal Government. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission ( EFCC), Ilorin Zonal Office had approached the Court to give an order of final forfeiture of Asmau Plaza situated in University Road, Tanke Area of Ilorin after a reasonable suspicion that the said property was acquired with proceeds of unlawful activity. Delivering the Judgment in the case of Thursday, Justice Sikiru Oyinloye held that the EFCC had fulfilled all the requirements of the law in the suit and thereby ordered that the said property should be forfeited to the Federal Government of Nigeria. “I have gone through the application brought by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, I also sighted the hearing notice issued to the respondent in the suit, Rasaq Momonu. This Honourable Court is persuaded that he had been served with the Court Processes. The application brought by the EFCC is meritorious and granted. This Honourable Court hereby order the final forfeiture of the Landed property known as Asmau Plaza, Tanke Road, Ilorin, Kwara State to the Federal Government of Nigeria” In the affidavit deposed to by Musa Gidado, an investigating officer with the EFCC, he urged the judge to order the final forfeiture of the Plaza which is suspected to be a proceed of unlawful activity. “Investigations revealed that Rasaq Momonu used his influence as an Accountant with Kwara State Government to inflate and award contracts for the construction of two classrooms at Ogbondoroko and Obanisuwa Community In Kwara State. “Investigations further revealed that the respondent who is a Civil Servant that earns less than N100,000 in a month cannot afford to build the house known as Asmau Plaza between 2010 -2012m. “That I know as a fact that the respondent was confronted with the above findings by the applicant which he did not dispute and has agreed to forfeit the property known as Asmau Plaza to the Federal Government of Nigeria”, he said. Moving the application for final forfeiture on Thursday, Counsel to the Applicant, Nnaemeka Omewa, urged the court to grant the order based on the provisions of Section 17 of the Advance Fee Fraud and other Fraud Related Offences Act, 2006. “My Lord, We have a motion on notice dated 19th July 2019 and filed on the same day, the motion is brought pursuant to section 17 of the Advance Fee Fraud and other fraud-related Offences, I urged the Court to grant the motion. Justice Oyinloye, however, granted the application and resolved all the issues raised in favour of the EFCC. https://tribuneonlineng.com/231012/amp/ 4 Likes 1 Share

Politics / Governor Abdulrazaq Reinstates Salary Of Kwara 'Sunset Workers' by yns4real: 5:23pm On Jul 03, 2019 |
*Breaking : Alert Received : Gov AbdulRazaq reinstates salary of Kwara 'sunset workers'* • Approves N100m gratuities The Governor has directed that the workers be paid their May and June salary. As a statesman and father to all, His Excellency believes the government should not punish these workers for decisions they didn't take," Rafiu Ajakaye, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, said in a statement on Wednesday. The workers are popularly known as 'sunset workers', with most governors often disengaging them for fear that they had been engaged to wrong foot the new administration. Former Governor Bukola Saraki sacked all the workers his predecessors had engaged in 2003. "This Governor dares to be different. He has shown good will and magnanimity to all. It is expected that the affected workers will do their part by serving the state diligently," according to the statement. AbdulRazaq has also approved the sums of N100m gratuity to demonstrate his commitment to the welfare of retirees, the statement added. The last administration had in the twilight of its reign recruited hundreds of workers into the civil service, including teachers and ministry workers. The recruitment triggered allegations that the beneficiaries were mainly members of the People's Democratic Party in the state and that the due process was not followed in engaging them. "The Governor's action is another practical demonstration of his pledge to never victimise anyone for their perceived affiliations. He has therefore resolved to restore their salary," Ajakaye said. AbdulRazaq, meanwhile, continued his tour of government facilities in the state on Wednesday, with visits to some markets in the Ilorin metropolis where he pledged to give them basic amenities like water, access roads and solar-powered electricity.
