Nairametrics| Though the Nigerian Stock Exchange has witnessed an uptick, stocks in the healthcare sector have typically being laggards. The pharmaceutical sector in particular has struggled with various challenges such as poor infrastructure, high tariffs on raw materials and difficulties in accessing foreign exchange. Two stocks however, have bucked the trend. Shares of May and Baker year to date have risen 56.38%. Fidson shares are up 39.84% year to date. Both beating the All Share Index which is up 4.61%

The massive increase in the share prices of both stocks has been attributed to rumours of a likely acquisition of May and Baker by Fidson Healthcare. Neither the NSE nor the two companies involved have issued a statement concerning merger talks.

A critical analysis of the financial statements for both companies shows Fidson is a bigger than May and Baker in all ramifications. May and Baker has issued and fully paid share capital of 980 million shares which gives a market capitalization of N1.44 billion at current prices. Fidson healthcare on the other hand has an issued share capital of 1.5 billion making its market capitalization N2.6 billion.

Fidson also has bigger retained earnings. Results for the first quarter ended March 2017, put its retained earnings at N2.9 billion. May and Baker had retained earnings of N919 million as at March 2017. Fidson could therefore buy a 50% stake in May and Baker plc from its retained earnings.

Fidson may be interested in May and Baker because of its bio vaccine and food units. First quarter results show the company made N2.3 billion in revenue, of which N491 million was from the foods unit. Of the total profit of N683 million made, N72 million was made from food.

In response to enquiries from both investors and the NSE, both companies have issued press releases. The Fidson healthcare press release calls talk of a merger /acquisition baseless and speculative. May and Baker in its statement, sees the merger/acquisition talk as malicious, since the current management is strategically positioning the company for greater heights.

Ipob has done more harm to the psyche and behavior of the average igbo man than anything else under the sun.

If the president doesn't show up before October 1st.
They might truly carry out their threat and cause mayhem in the north, of course a reprisal would ensure in the East.

This would be a good window for the khaki boys to come in and take over, chasing PYO into a compulsory I.T of 9 months! grin

Its a high level chess game here, the Igbo are not truly the target rather they are just collateral damage. The main target is just getting FULL control of the aso villa and war against the Igbo's is a wonderful recipe to attain such.

Yoruba's seem to play the sitting on the fence game and keep acting deaf because the threats ain't towards them, forgetting the fact that PYO on that sit is the REAL war.

The thing go touch everybody but it might be too late to realize. When that precious question of "are you Igbo or Hausa" is being asked by the almajiri, it would definitely be in Hausa language and not English or pidgin. Woe betides any who can't respond accordingly in Hausa language to defend himself and avoid the dagger.

At the very end, when the north takes back FULL control of the Aso villa, the slogan will return to status quo of "One Nigeria" chants from the north!

Yoruba no go see wetin HIT them undecided

Thanks bro i like you. Last year i attended a symposium title power use and abuse (mind you it has nothing to do with biafra, it was not an ipob or massob gathering) one of the presenters Dr. X said that one mistake the igbo elders did was pushing ojukwu to declare biafra and engage a war, he suggested that an external based struggled should have been a perfect approach because

1. The international support biafra lacked during the war could have been a reverse

2. Because ojukwu as a millitary governor of Enugu a state in "Nigeria" was tracherous of him to support the break up of the nation he pledged allegiance to serve. Thus his role could have been different probably A-middle-man. Now you claim ipob lacks political support; who do we even call on that note? who is ready to sacrifice? we must be very careful with the way we see critical issues as casual... for any serving governor of any state to clearly state his support for ipob is in our dope mind "treacherous" otherwise why do you think they are all keeping mute? instead okorocha is even bold enough to state he is not part of the movement, publicly engaging in such a movement is a sacrifice for any currently serving government official he eighter loses his job or his life but he must lose something. Ipob does not need political hoodlums or semi illiterates parading themselves in the name of governors or whatever because they are all desperate for power and a chunk of the national cake. Having said that, what ipob needs are lawyers and intellectuals passionate enough and ready to do anything to make sure their principles are maintained and their course achieved even if it will cost them their lives. Uwazuruike was and still is i am personally happy for the emergence of ipob in the face of massob it will rekindle the flames in the latter if there is still any. If ipob can find such person/s in the current serving political circle it will be an advantage but definetly not the determinant because they (politicians) are not yet ready.

If you go into the street of Nigeria and ask, who is a Niger Deltan?
95% of respondents will likely fail the question.
The Reason for this write up is that some Peoples ignorantly love to use the phrase "IGBOS and NIGER DELTANS".
Its wrong and an embarrasement to the intellectual mindset.
-
First, What is a Delta?
A Delta is a Land area where a River spread into diverse tributuaries before emptying into an Ocean or Sea.
-
Niger Delta is the delta of River Nigeria.
The USA has Mississippi Delta.
The China has Yangtze Delta.
The Egypt has Nile delta.
And so on.
-
In Nigeria, How Is A Niger Deltan identified, lets examine it in three ways and then solve the Igbos and Niger Delta Question.
-
1) Niger Delta as Oil Producing Areas?- If Niger Delta is classified by Oil Producing Areas, that mean Igbos, Yorubas, Ijaws, Urhobos etc are part of it.
- Yorubas produce Oil in Ondo state.
- Igbos have Oil producing areas in Ukwa areas of Abia, Egbema, Asa/Ndoki, Oguta, Ogbaru, Ndoni, Omuma, Etche etc.
-
So if it is classified by Oil producing areas, that means all ethnic groups in southern Nigeria are Niger Deltans.
-
2) Niger Deltans As South South States?- This is the classification many use to define Niger Deltan.
And they even Ignorantly think Igbos are not part of it.
I am an Asa lady from Oyigbo LGA In Rivers state.
I am proudly Igbo and Niger Deltan.
Also the Ndokis, Ndoni, Etches, Egbemas etc are also Oil producing areas in South South and they are part of the Igbo Nation.
Ikwerre, Ogba and Ekpeye may be a battleground of identity issue but they are of Igboid stock.
So you see if we use South South as classification of Niger deltan, IGBOS are part and parcel of it.
-
3) Niger Deltan By Virtue Of Geographical Location?
If we go by this classification, that means Edo and Cross River people are not Niger deltans, because there is no delta of the River Niger in their location.
If we go by this classification, that means IGBOS are fully part of the Niger Delta.
-
My Final submission is that trying to create Niger Delta without mentioning IGBOS is a big FRAUD.
There are Igbos in the term "NIGER DELTA".
Even the River Niger is a dermacation between two Igbo Cities Onitsha and Asaba.
-
The days of divide and conquer are fading away.
I am an Asa/Ndoki person.
Oyigbo is my LGA!
Rivers is my state.
IGBO is my ethnic nation.
And Yes I am a Niger Deltan just like my fellow Igbos like Etches, Ndonis, Egbemas, Ogbarus, Ogutas, etc.
Thank you all.

-

And if Nigeria is never restructured, what will you do? When Scotland went to a referendum in 2014, do you think they didnt know that Britain "bigger and better platform to thrive"?

Its all about self determination
have u agreed among urself? Have u done wide consultation within and without?
