Politics › Re: Nigeria’s Foreign Reserves Hit Seven-Year High, Reach $46.7 Billion by yorosstores: 5:37pm On Nov 18, 2025 |
Here’s the thing: when a country like Nigeria builds up strong foreign reserves, it’s not just stacking dollars for bragging rights. It changes how stable and confident the entire economy feels. Here are the real upsides:
1. It protects the currency With solid reserves, the central bank can step in when the naira is under pressure. That helps reduce wild swings and makes the currency feel less shaky.
2. It boosts investor confidence Foreign investors pay attention to reserves. High reserves tell them the country can meet its obligations, so they’re more willing to bring in capital instead of running for the exit at the slightest shock.
3. It helps pay for imports during tough times If oil prices crash or there’s a global slowdown, reserves act like a buffer. Nigeria can still pay for essentials like fuel, machinery and medicine without scrambling.
4. It reduces borrowing pressure A country with healthy reserves doesn’t need to borrow as aggressively. That means lower debt servicing costs and more breathing room in the budget.
5. It strengthens the country’s position in international trade When you can meet trade payments easily, partners trust you more. That trust makes negotiations smoother and trade flows more stable.
6. It shields the economy from shocks Think of reserves as an emergency fund. Whether it’s a sudden drop in oil revenue or a global financial scare, the reserves help keep things steady while the storm passes.
7. It supports long-term economic planning Predictability matters. Stable reserves allow the government to plan budgets, projects and policies without constant panic about external pressures. |

Believe sahara liars at your own peril. a legal practitioner involved in the case. the source said. No name just a random source. Liars The source claimed that the land was originally designated as park and recreation area, but Wike allegedly “changed the land use to multi-purpose” and issued fresh Rights of Occupancy (RofO) to new beneficiaries. Speaking exclusively to SaharaReporters, a legal practitioner involved in the case explained that the disputed 30-hectare land was initially allocated to serving and retired military personnel but was later revoked by the FCT Minister Nyesom Wike. The land was allocated to military and at the same time designated as park and recreation area. Sahara you efforts to bring the current INEC chairman into this has failed already. LIARS |
Travel › Countries With No Rivers by yorosstores(op): 6:06pm On Nov 11, 2025 |
Some nations have no permanent rivers, relying instead on groundwater, rain, or desalination. These dry regions and small islands show how people adapt when flowing water simply does not exist. If you imagine a country without rivers, it seems almost impossible. Yet, there's not just one, but 18 countries across the world which have no permanent rivers.
Rain is scarce in these places, and without steady rainfall or melting snow-caps, water channels dry up before they can form year-round flow. Many rely on groundwater or underground aquifers, seasonal streams, imported water, or desalination to get by.
Saudi Arabia is the most well-known example. Millions of years ago, ancient rivers crossed the Arabian Peninsula, but today nothing flows permanently. Modern life depends on vast desalination plants along the Red Sea and the Arabian Gulf.
In fact, Saudi Arabia produces some of the world’s largest volumes of desalinated water to keep its cities, farms, and industries running. That reality shapes many parts of daily life. Agriculture, urban growth and even the supplies of drinking water are managed through technology rather than natural water flow.
Across the region, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Oman, the UAE, and Yemen also lack permanent rivers. Their desert landscapes offer little rainfall, and temperatures remain high for most of the year. When heavy rain does fall, temporary streams called 'wadis' appear but disappear quickly. Several island countries join this unusual list. Malta, the Bahamas, and the Maldives do not get enough rainfall or have enough land to support flowing rivers. Instead, they depend on rainwater storage and coastal groundwater.
Despite the challenges, many of these regions flourish. Cities like Dubai, Doha, and Riyadh continue to grow through technology, smart planning, and large-scale desalination. Their progress shows how human creativity can support life even where nature provides no rivers.
Here’s a list of 18 sovereign countries that currently do not have any permanent natural rivers flowing through their territories
1. Saudi Arabia 2. Kuwait 3. United Arab Emirates 4. Qatar 5. Bahrain 6. Oman 7. Yemen 8. Libya 9. Djibouti 10. Maldives 11. Malta 12. Monaco 13. Vatican City 14. Nauru 15. Kiribati 16. Tuvalu 17. Marshall Islands 18. Tonga Here are a few quick facts about the countries with no rivers:
1. Saudi Arabia operates some of the world’s largest desalination plants, producing over half of its drinking water from seawater to support cities that have no natural rivers.
2. In Oman and the UAE, temporary riverbeds called wadis come alive only after heavy rain, often surprising residents with sudden rushing water before disappearing back into dry sand.
3. The Maldives relies heavily on rainwater harvesting, as rising sea levels are increasingly contaminating its groundwater, making freshwater access a major climate challenge.
4. Qatar imports much of its drinking water and also depends on desalination, as its desert climate produces extremely low annual rainfall and no flowing rivers.
5. Bahrain historically depended on natural springs, but overuse and seawater intrusion have reduced them dramatically, forcing the nation to depend more on desalination.
6. In the Bahamas and Malta, limited land area prevents the formation of large freshwater basins, so people rely on groundwater held in small limestone aquifers.
7. Some scientists believe ancient river networks once crossed the Arabian Peninsula, suggesting that today’s dry landscape was once fertile — a finding supported by satellite imaging of buried channels.
These facts help us remember that a river is not a given everywhere—and human innovation can step in when nature cannot. Source: https://www.indiatoday.in/education-today/gk-current-affairs/story/countries-without-rivers-2814672-2025-11-06#google_vignette |
