This is a brilliant piece, but I believe President Tinubu fits the description of a trustee leader more than many are willing to admit. Trustee leadership is not about making popular decisions; it is about making difficult decisions today to secure a better tomorrow.

Tinubu’s removal of the fuel subsidy, foreign exchange reforms and efforts to increase revenue to the federating units are examples of decisions that may be painful in the short term but are intended to address deep-rooted structural problems in the Nigerian economy. Rather than continue borrowing to sustain an inefficient system, his administration is attempting to correct fundamental distortions and create a more sustainable economic foundation.

Of course, the real test of trustee leadership is not the courage to make difficult decisions alone, but the ability to translate those decisions into jobs, affordable food, better infrastructure, quality healthcare and improved living standards. The government must do more to cushion the hardship and ensure ordinary Nigerians begin to feel the benefits of these reforms.

Nevertheless, I believe Nigeria is moving in the right direction under Tinubu. The reforms are necessary, and abandoning them simply because they are initially unpopular could return us to the same cycle of short-term politics and structural failure that has held the country back for decades.

A trustee leader must have the courage to make difficult choices, the wisdom to stay the course and the humility to correct mistakes. Tinubu has demonstrated the first; the success of his presidency will ultimately depend on how well he delivers the other two.

70k is minimum, not salary for every body. How many govt workers aside youth corpers earn this minimum.

How many private companies pay 70k minimum. School teachers still earn 30k. Not justifying this pay rate, but people should ld think of others when pushing FG to pay higher. People in private sector will suffer it when general prices go up.
