The Chief Observer of the European Union Election Observation Mission to Nigeria, Santiago Fisas, has commended the Independent National Electoral Commission for addressing the problems of the card readers which marred the March 28 presidential and National Assembly elections. While speaking with our correspondent at Olosa Street, Victoria Island, Lagos, Fisas said reports he received across Lagos showed that the accreditation exercise was smooth. Fisas, who is also a member of the European Parliament, said, “So far we have not received news of any problems. Not many people have come out to vote here in Victoria Island but the machines are working better than they did during the presidential election. “The day is still very long and we will keep following the process including the collation which is a very important process. I urge the police and INEC to be neutral. “We will give our recommendations after the elections and it is up to Nigeria to accept or not.” Fisas also called for a constitutional review to give INEC more powers as well as the setting up of special courts to address election matters. Fisas said governorship elections were just as important as presidential elections because governors made more direct impact on the lives of people than presidents worldwide. The observer noted that generally, the voter turnout was not as high as the presidential but added that it would be too soon to conclude since voting has not yet been concluded. |
A former Governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, says there is little or no police presence in areas which the Peoples Democratic Party is considered to be strong in Lagos. Tinubu, who is a National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, said this while addressing journalists at Sunday Adigun Street, Alausa, where he voted on Saturday. The former governor alleged that the PDP-led Federal Government had relegated the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Kayode Aderanti, to the level of an area commander just because the party had ulterior motives. He said rather, the controversial Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Joseph Mbu, was the one acting as the Commissioner of Police for the elections. He said, “The alarming issue now is the inconsistencies and lack of police presence in areas of their own boasting. They announced Monday last week that the AIG has been assigned to supervise the elections. Yesterday (Friday), we heard the CP has been relegated to an area commander and the AIG is now a Commissioner of Police in charge of the election. “From that, you smell rats. It is not good enough for confidence building. If there is no written order, it should not be possible for anybody, no matter how highly placed, to make an oral posting of the police or the army.” Tinubu condemned the spate of violence in the South-South geo-political zone, saying it was barbaric. He said it was violence and threats of such that might have caused a low voter turnout in several parts of the country. Tinubu added, “We have to remove violence from our politics. Election is about people and service, it is not a process of gun, war and violence. It is power by all means that is the cause of the violence and we have to remove that and allow the process to function and nurture the process of democracy, respect the rule of law and lives and property of Nigerians. “The attempt to be governor or control states should come from the people’s sovereignty; the right of the people to choose their own leaders.” The former governor commended the Independent National Electoral Commission for the smooth process of accreditation, saying it would boost voter confidence |

After the just concluded JAMB 2015 CBT exam since March 21st, 2015, questions have re-surfaced about the UNILORIN’S Post-UTME form, when it will be out, how it will be, etc. Here is a compilation of what I think is necessary for you to know at the moment: 1) To qualify for UNILORIN putme exam, you must have sat for any of the O’Level exam either with the result released or awaiting and already meet up with the school’s minimum cut-off mark for your course in JAMB. 2) UNILORIN post utme exam is a CBT exam, so be ready to face the computer once more. 3) The question is going to be 50 in number which will last for only 25 minutes/30 minutes. 4) The questions can be categorized into 5 parts which are: Eng Lang., mathematics, Biology, General Question (with Geography having higher priority) and Current Affairs. 5) Generally, UNILORIN doesn’t have proportion in which the questions are supplied to candidates which means a candidate may have the afore-listed subjects in the proportion/ratio 20:10;5;7:8(i.e Eng Lang.= 20, Mathematics=10, Biology=5, General Question=7, Current Affairs= while another candidate will have his/her combination in the ratio 15:4:8:17:6 and so on which means the proportion varies from candidate to candidate but one thing is certain, you will be providedwith 50 questions in total. 6) UNILORIN does not test how far you know about the department or faculty you are coming in for because they believe those ones have been settled in your O’ Level and you have also been tested in JAMB so the post UTME is just a way to screen people by the institution, so therefore, don’t be surprised if you are a Law student and you sitting next to an Engineering student sitting for the same exam. 7) No official date has been announced for the sale of the post-UTME form by the school, but hopefully one month or more from the time of this post. It would be posted on the dailies, the school website or any of the Nigerian student 9) No official price announced yet but it would be something between N3000 and N4000 because last year it was N3000 while it was N2000 in the previous year. 10) The form will be purchased online on the school site using either the Verve or Master Card. PLEASE NOTE THAT FORMS WILL NOT BE SOLD OUTSIDE THE SCHOOL SITE LIKE JAMB FORMS. 11) The Form will be out on sale for two weeks. 12) As practice of all Nigerian Federal Universities, UNILORIN also give priority to candidate in her catchment area than students outside its catchment area, but you will have higher chances if you are from Kwara State but with the highest possibility if you are from Ilorin. So you should not be surprised if you score 220 in JAMB and 80% in putme with no admission yet someone with 200 in JAMB and 60% in putme gain admission. 13) UNILORIN catchment area are: The Middle Belt States which are Kwara, Kogi, Niger, Benue, Nasarawa, etc but the South Western States. Are also considered in some cases. 14) UNILORIN putme cut off mark is generally 50% except for the highly competitive course which are between 60% to 70%. So if you score anything less than 50% in the putme exam, forget about UNILORIN. 15) All that is required of you on the day of the exam is your printout and a pen to sign the attendance but remember to dress decently because UNILORIN doesn’t tolerate any form of indecent dressing. 16) Your result will be sent to you as text message at 8pm or so be sure of the phone number you will provide while doing your registration although you can as well check the result on the school website. 17) a text message will be sent to you if you have being offered admission or by checking the school website. 18) Religion is not used as a basis for admission into UNILORIN. 19) UNILORIN provide two centres for the putme exam which are the lagos centre at Oba Akran Avenue and the other centre at the school premises in Ilorin. You are to choose one of this centres for your exam. 20) UNILORIN remedial will also have to sit for the putme because it increases their chances of being offered their desired courses although what actually qualify them for admission is meeting up with the minimum 50% pa$$ in their courses but this does not guarantee that they would be offered their desired courses. Before the days of modern, electrically-powered irons, housewives and laundresses would use old-fashioned, solid metal flatirons such as this one: Flatirons like these were filled with red hot coals from the kitchen stove and once the metal was hot enough, they'd be used to quite literally, iron out the wrinkles in your clothes. Of course, if you didn’t have the benefit of a coal- heated iron, you would have to make do with an even older technology, solid metal irons heated on the stove, like these: Irons like these were placed on hearths next to open fires, or on the kitchen stove, to heat them up until they were scorching hot. Because the heat from the iron would eventually disappate, housewives would often have two, three or even four such irons on their stoves or fireplaces so that when one iron cooled down, they could put it back on the hearth and just pick up another one and continue with their work. It’s where the phrase “to have many irons in the fire” comes from, meaning that you always had something else to fall back on. You Remember or You still make use ![]()

Agbaje pointed out that the allegation is under investigation by the police. Addressing newsmen yesterday, Prof. Jega said the winner of the presidential election would most likely be declared today as he cautioned against announcements by unauthorised declarations. Jega speaks on Rivers crisis Meantime, Professor Attahiru Jega, INEC Chairman, has said the commission had received the formal petition by the APC in Rivers State that there was no election in the state even as he promised that the petition would be investigated. According to him, supplementary elections took place yesteerday in a few polling units in some states. They include Lagos with 90 polling units, Kebbi, 16; Adamawa, 25; Niger, 6; Yobe, 37 and Borno, eight polling units. Others are Jigawa, 37 polling units; Kano, 13; Taraba, 116 while Abuja had two. All Progressives Congress (APC) party supporters march towards the Independent National Electoral Commission Office in Port Harcourt during a demonstration calling for the cancellation of the Presidential elections in the Rivers State on March 29, 2015. Nigeria’s closely fought general election went into a second day after failures in controversial new technology snarled the polling, including for President Goodluck Jonathan. AFP PHOTO He said: “We are concerned about what is happening in Rivers State. This morning (yesterday) I received a letter from the APC party calling for the cancellation and rescheduling of the election in Rivers State. We have started investigations into what happened and if our staff are involved, we will apply the appropriate sanctions. “We received many allegations and complaints that in some places some supervisory officers disappeared with result sheets, in fact we saw lapses more than we envisaged. In other places we received allegations and accusations that ad-hoc staff were substituted.” Use of card readers was a huge success —Jega On the use of the card reader machine for the conduct of the polls, Jega said it was a huge success despite the noticeable lapses in some places which he put at 0.25 per cent of the over 150,000 card readers. He said: “It is also gratifying to note that the card readers worked well in the majority of polling units, even though there were some areas where difficulties were experienced (and) necessitated additional guidelines by the commission to allow for manual accreditation of voters, as announced yesterday (Saturday). “So far, Osun, Kebbi, Ekiti, Adamawa, Borno, Jigawa, Anambra, Akwa Ibom and Ebonyi States reverted to manual- only accreditation of voters in some polling units. Investigation into what accounted for the difficulties with the card reader is ongoing.” The chairman further agreed that there were attacks by people suspected to be members of the Boko Haram insurgents who attacked a polling centre in Gombe State which left some people dead including two ad-hoc staff on duty. Another area of concern was the issue of under-aged voters in Taraba State, a development Jega condemned even as he said he had mandated the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in the state to investigate. Meanwhile, the APC, in Ekiti State has asked INEC, to charge the Deputy Governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Kolapo Olusola, for election violence. APC’s call followed his alleged directive to his security aide, to shoot an APC member, Jide Owolabi, in Ikere-Ekiti, during Saturday’s presidential and National Assembly elections. It also asked INEC to cancel the election result in Ire-Ekiti over allegation of violence and ballot snatching. Reacting to the two incidents, Publicity Secretary, Taiwo Olatubosun, said in a statement that the two incidents were well plotted as strategic plans by the PDP to have undue advantage to win the ballot. He alleged that the deputy governor’s action in the Ikere-Ekiti incident was a reckless display of lawlessness and flagrant abuse of power to intimidate the opposition for advantage at the poll. Thousands of supporters of Nigeria’s main opposition party demonstrated in the southern state of Rivers, calling for the cancellation of elections locally because of alleged irregularities. AFP PHOTO He said: “What happened in Ikere-Ekiti was a pre-meditated incident to cow the opposition to submission. We had earlier raised the alarm to the plan by top officials of Governor Ayodele Fayose’s administration to employ violence and intimidation to cow our members to enable them manipulate the electoral process. We wrote the security agencies, including both local and international human rights organs, about PDP’s plan. Yesterday’s (Saturday’s) incident was just a manifestation of the fears we raised. The APC spokesman said the INEC and security agencies should not allow the attempted murder to go un-investigated. [/b]
