With escalating demand for foreign exchange for both goods and services by Nigerians, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has ensured that it would continue to make deliberate efforts in the foreign exchange sector to avert further downward slide in the value of the Naira, which it said was fuelled by speculative tendencies. The Director, of Corporate Communications at the CBN, Mr. Osita Nwanisobi, yesterday, advised the public to resist the urge of succumbing to the speculative activities of some players in the foreign exchange market. The Federal Government has finalised plans to levy a five per cent Excise Duty on all telecommunications services, including calls, SMS and data services, a move obdervers say would further compound Nigerians economic woes. Finance Minister Zainab Ahmed shared the worrying news at a stakeholders forum organised by the Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC in Abuja on Thursday. Abuja High Court sitting at Maitama on Wednesday, granted bail to Ahmed Idris former Accountant-General of the Federation (AGF) and two others over an alleged N109 billion fraud. The Lagos State Government has re-arraigned an on-air personality, Mr Uche Igwe also known as Darksam for allegedly distributing the sex tape video of a Chrisland School student on social media. Tesla’s second quarter earnings fell 32% from record levels in the first quarter as supply chain issues and pandemic lockdowns in China slowed production of its electric vehicles. But the Austin, Texas, company still surprised Wall Street with a $2.26 billion net profit for the quarter. Lagos State Domestic Violence and Sexual Offences Court sitting in the Ikeja area has found guilty and sentenced Nollywood actor, Olanrewaju James, well known as Baba Ijesha to 16 years in prison for sexually assaulting a 14-year-old minor. Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo, in a judgment that lasted two hours also convicted Baba Ijesha of four out of the six counts for which he was charged by the Lagos State government.
