Foreign Affairs / ISIS Has Officially Launched Their Language App "Huroof" by Yungkida(m): 12:12pm On May 12, 2016
When you thought ISIS couldn’t get any lower with their recruiting methods, the terrorist group launched a new app geared towards children. The application named Huroof teaches the Arabic alphabet with a "step-by-step walkthrough," games, and a nasheed (an a cappella Islamic song).

Caleb Weiss of the Long War Journal says the lyrics of the nasheed are "littered with jihadist terminology." The application also contains militaristic terms like gun, ammunition, tank, and bullet. These are terms not normally taught for five-year-olds.

In the application’s press release, the group explained the purpose of the app, which is to teach "the cubs the alphabet letters." According to The Guardian, ISIS calls their militants "lions" and their children "cubs."

The mobile tool is very kid friendly, using large cartoons, bright colors, and children’s toys to teach the alphabet and vocabulary.

An ISIS propaganda outlet launched the mobile application May 10 on the encrypted messaging service Telegram and other file-sharing websites.

Huroof is not ISIS’ first mobile tool. Earlier this year the terrorist group created an encrypted messenger application called Alrawi to make it harder for governments and security organizations to read their messages.

The terrorist group is well-known for using technology as a recruitment tool to reach wider audiences. In addition to having a "jihadist news feed" and a radio app, ISIS posts a variety of content on social media. "At least 70 percent of the content the Islamic State is putting out is first coming on Twitter," said Steven Stalinsky, executive director of the Middle East Media Research Institute.

Social media companies continue to try shutting down terrorist accounts, but success has varied.

Currently, Huroof can only be used on Androids.

Below are facts you should know about A1C.

9.The A1C test is a blood test that provides information about a person’s average levels of blood glucose, which is also known as blood sugar, for a period of 3 months.

8. The A1C test is often times called the hemoglobin A1c, HbA1c, or glycohemoglobin test.

7. The A1C test is the primary test used for diabetes management and diabetes research.

6. The A1C test is a common blood test used to diagnose type 1 and type 2 diabetes.

Politics / 9 Things You Should Know About Fuel Subsidy Removal by Yungkida(m): 7:11pm On May 11, 2016
Y’all have been lamenting about fuel subsidy up and down, here are some important things you should know about fuel subsidy

Fuel subsidy is the money paid by the Federal Government of Nigeria to reduce the cost of refining petroleum products, especially fuel.

The Federal Government has for sometime now been selling the idea of fuel subsidy removal to Nigerians; making them to understand how immensely beneficial the removal be to all. The Federal Government particularly points that it is aimed at generating additional revenue that will be used to improve the infrastructure in the country such as roads, schools, hospital, etc. However, Nigerians are looking at it differently–as an attempt to exploit their meager resources.

It is interesting to note that states Governors especially from the Peoples Democratic Party have accepted the subsidy removal. In fact, Governor Suswam of Benue State told newsmen in Abuja that “there is no going back on the plan as it is going to be highly beneficial to Nigerians.”

Nigeria is the biggest producer of oil in Africa, yet it is revealing that the same fuel that sells for N65 per liter (with payment of subsidy) in Nigeria goes for just N4 to N5 in Venezuela, the Venezuelan Ambassador to Nigeria, Enrique Fernando Arrundell, explains. Similarly, in Libya, the country condemned recently by many due to Ghaddafi’s undemocratic style of leadership, a liter of fuel goes for just N22.

President Goodluck Jonathan recently pronounced that there is nothing Nigeria can do about the removal of fuel subsidy as all arrangements have been put in place to implement it. He stated that the government has slowed down on the implementation just to carry along stakeholders. He pointed out particularly that those standing against the removal are those planning to bring down his administration.

The above pronouncement by President Jonathan, to me, is highly undemocratic. We are in a dispensation — an era when the masses are supposed to be given a say in governmental affairs, unlike military administration where policies are implemented by decrees and dictates.
The decision of the government to remove fuel subsidy maybe a conspiracy by the high-class to have more money to embezzle. State Governors support fuel subsidy removal because it will increase their revenue allocation from the Federal Government

I don’t think the average Nigerian will agree with the removal of fuel subsidy, especially going by past records of our leaders misappropriating funds meant for the development of the nation. In an ideal democracy, the decision of the National Assembly is usually respected since it represents all Nigerians. With respect to our democracy, however, the National Assembly members are literally bought to endorse the subsidy withdrawal.

My candid opinion in this write-up is that since the Federal Government thinks it has reasons to eliminate fuel subsidy, a forum should be created where Nigerians will air their views on the matter. The government can then decide, based on popular views, to cancel or continue oil subsidy.

Culture / 3 Reasons Why You Should Give Your Ex A Second Chance by Yungkida(m): 5:30pm On May 10, 2016
I prefer to see the best in people, and I try to believe some people are better than they appear to be. I’ve had a decent number of relationships, and I’ve never once denied an ex another shot. I believe people are in your life for a reason, and so I’ve always given my exes a second chance to stay in mine.

Sometimes you don’t know when to stay or when to walk away. I’ve swallowed my pride many times in hopes a person would change, or a situation would improve. Then, I hoped we’d miraculously live happily ever after.

Well, life isn’t a fairytale, and my so-called princes have been nothing but knights in shining disappointment. But, I’ve always believed in a good fight. So, I’ll always be willing to give an ex a second chance if it means happiness for us both.

Here are the reasons why:

1. I’ll always know I did my part.

All relationships have their problems, and most of them must come to an end. But, I simply do not believe in letting someone go without trying my damn best to make the person stay.

The worst kind of breakup two people can have is when one person stops fighting, or someone doesn’t even try. The most painful of endings is when there is no communication, no sliver of hope and just a walk out the door with nothing but a memory of a hurtful goodbye.

Sometimes love is lost, and time is wasted. But, actions speak louder than words.

I may be acting on my emotions, but for me, love has always been stronger than anything else in the world. My heart is bigger than my brain, and when I love someone, I do not for the life of me want to let the person go.

So, my friends go on to tell me I deserve better, and I’ll make a complete fool of myself in front of everyone by giving my ex another shot. At least I can say I tried.

2. Sometimes people really do change.

Time is everything, and sometimes, that’s just all we really need. There were times for me when it made sense to let go, and to figure out who I was and what I wanted. There were times when it wasn’t right with someone, and we came back together later on.

People do grow up. Sometime people change for better, and sometimes they change for worse. Second chances are the only way to find out whether or not it’s right for you.

Often, it’s not right, and things end the same way they did before. But, knowing for sure now what you didn’t before is the best lesson you could ever learn.

3. The practice of forgiveness makes for the strongest of relationships.

We never want to be that girl who always goes back to her ex. We don’t want to be the girl who complains about him one day and gushes about him the next. I’ve been that girl, and I’ve also been the girl who rolls her eyes at the whole situation.

Love is love. It’s hard one day, and it’s easy the next. Some people fight and make up, while others don’t and break up. In a relationship, I truly believe the act of forgiveness is important in the right circumstances. (For example, no one should ever endure an abusive relationship, and no amount of love should justify that.)

You aren’t always able to forget, but you always have the opportunity to forgive. Partners who are able to work through the biggest hurdles often seem to come through the finish line. Despite the bruises and sores, coming back together after a few chapters of figurative hits and misses could make for the strongest of relationships.

The best way to know your partner is through experiencing all the bad. When you’re able to conquer the worst, you’re able to enjoy the best.

So maybe I live in this fantasy world where people change and forgiveness is key, but I’d rather live in that world than the one with regret. I’d rather live with a heart big enough to love again than one that can’t love at all. You can point and laugh at my basket of second chances that are sometimes wasted, but you can be sure they are lessons learned.

Culture / 8 Questions You Need To Ask Yourself Before Giving Up On Anything by Yungkida(m): 10:08am On May 10, 2016
We’ve all been at a crossroad at some point in our lives, whether to to take the plunge or to back down and walk away. If you’ve ever felt stuck at a seemingly dead end situation, and at some point it feels the odd is not in your favour, then you know what i’m talking about.

Whether it be in a job, project, relationship, family – It can be tough to give it a second though if it’s the best time for you to move on. There’s nothing more saddening than regretting a decision you made when you’re at a crossroad. It’s better ti weigh all your options and consider other alternatives to a given situation before taking or making any decision on anything.

The questions below should help you scrutinize out your feelings and thus preventing you from making a decision that you will regret….

1. Is it making me a better me?

Think about if the current state you’re in, a job, or a partner is contributing to your life. If it’s not, then why continue? This is your one life to live. Why waste it on something that isn’t bringing out the best in you or making you a better person?

2. Am i being productive?

Do i feel fulfilled and accomplished with my job, or am yearning more? Is this situation preventing you from being productive in your life? Sometimes, when we’re so wrapped up in something else, we forget about our own wants, needs and responsibilities. Don’t compromise your life by trying to please others.

3. Is it costing me my well-being?

If you’re losing sleep over a spouse, job, situation; or spending your entire day worrying, this is the best time to reevaluate your situation. Really think about if it’s helping, hindering or limiting you. Is it worth risking your life over?

4. Am i leaving satisfied?

Take an inventory of your mood. Are you feeling tired, anxious or upset? Or are you happy, excited and full of energy?
Think about how you feel when you leave. Are you reluctant or relieved?

5. Am i constantly daydreaming about being somewhere else?

Are you content with your current job, partner, where you are in your situation? Or are you always wishing you were somewhere else or doing something else?

6. Is it going to help me in the long run?

Imagine your future. How will this benefit you down the road? If you can think of a few reasons, it may be worth really considering whether you stay or go. Try starting a “pros and cons” list. If the cons start outweighing the pros, then it might be time to cut your losses.

7. Have i given it my all?

Sometimes, if we aren’t really “feeling” something or someone, we won’t give our utmost attention. If you don’t try, though, you’ll never know. Really put in some time and more attention. Perhaps you’ll find something spectacular that you may not have seen before. If you think you haven’t put forth your best effort, don’t give up just yet.

8. Does it inspire me to say YESSSSSSSSS!!!!!!

Does the current situation inspire me to say YES everyday of my life??

Celebrities / Lupita Nyong’o Slams ‘vogue’for Comparing Her Hair To Audrey Hepburn's by Yungkida(m): 2:02pm On May 05, 2016
Lupita Nyong'o turned heads during May 2's Met Gala when she arrived in a green sequin Calvin Klein dress and towering hairstyle. While walking the red carpet, the actress stopped to chat with Vogue correspondent Andre Leon Talley about the vision behind her look.

Lupita explained that the inspiration behind her hairstyle came from "the sculptural hair-dos from all around the continent." When Talley pointed out that it was reminiscent of Nina Simone, Nyong'o agreed that the singer was also a source of inspiration.

Despite being clear about her influences, Vogue related the Oscar winner's skyward hairstyle to actress Audrey Hepburn. In a piece titled, "Is Lupita Nyong’o the New Audrey Hepburn?" the publication compares her hair to a similar style worn by Hepburn in a Vogue spread from 1963, a clear misappropriation of Nyongo's homage. Vogue also points out the similarities many were drawing between Nyong'o and Marge Simpson and Dr. Seuss' "Whosville."

In response to the Vogue piece, Nyong'o took to Instagram this morning to post a video of herself at the Met Gala alongside a series of African women and Nina Simone. She captioned the picture "Hair Inspiration. Check." and tagged Vogue.

As NPR points out, the choice to overlook the historical significance is insulting. In the past, those types of structural hairstyles have signified a person's tribal background and have represented status and wealth in Africa. Even though the hairstyles are more rare today, it is still tradition that still lives on in many African societies.

Crime / 10-year-old Jani Hacked Instagram | Received $10,000 Reward From Facebook by Yungkida(m): 8:30am On May 04, 2016
This is Mindblowing…… I can’t even unlock a phone, not to mention hacking a global social media platform.

10-year old Jani was able to hack the world wide social media platform “Instagram”, and thus earning him $10,000 from Facebook.

According to news site Iltalehti:

Jani figured out a way to get into Instagram’s servers and delete text posted by Instagram users.
Jani was rewarded $10,000 by Facebook as part of its bug bounty program, which offers cash rewards to people who find bugs and flaws in Facebook’s digital infrastructure. That includes the Facebook-owned Instagram.

He could delete what people wrote
The boy told Iltalehti that he could delete what people wrote on the picture-sharing social media, demonstrating it to Instagram by deleting a comment they made on a test account. Jani said he could even delete Justin Bieber’s comments with the flaw he found.

According to the boy’s father, Jani and his twin brother have found security flaws in websites before, but they haven’t been significant enough to justify a payout, until this one.
Facebook’s bug bounty program welcomes anyone to find bugs and flaws, and offers cash rewards to problems that are significant, similar to Google’s own security rewards program. According to the most recent release from Facebook, the company received over 13,000 submissions from researchers in 2015 alone, 526 of which were valid reports.

In 2015, Facebook paid out a total of $936,000 to 210 researchers, averaging about $1,780 per submission.

Romance / 6 Reasons Food Is The Only Thing You Need To Understand To Win A Girl’s Heart by Yungkida(m): 4:27pm On May 03, 2016
It is often said that the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach. I’m here to tell you that one of the surest ways to get a girl to fall in like or love with you is also through her stomach. It’s simple and foolproof. Don’t overthink it; go with Nike (Just do It)

Feed her without question, feed her often and don’t ever stop.

Do that, and you will undoubtedly win her over. Unless you’re trying to date a girl who doesn’t like to eat, in which case I cannot help you. So many fights can be avoided if you keep her away from the “hanger zone,” and so many positive feelings can be enticed with the aid of food.

Find yourself in an argument? Give her pizza. Pizza solves almost anything. If pizza doesn’t work, then go for sugar. I’ll prove my point below. Here are the six ways food will always get you the girl:

1. It shows that you care about her feelings.

I don’t know if there are any demonstrations of affection that mean more to a girl than making sure she doesn’t go hungry.

It can be something as simple as calling in a to-go order she can grab on the way home before those hangry feelings set in. It’s little acts like this that make her feel thought of and cared for.

2. Your dining preferences demonstrate your compatibility.

Being able to eat together pretty much tops the list of important qualifications when I’m evaluating the relationship potential with someone new.

If you don’t like breakfast for dinner, I don’t like you. If you are strict about what you eat — always portion controlling and calorie counting — then it’s definitely not going to work between us. Not that those are bad things, to each their own and kudos to your dedication, but definitely not a match for me.

3. It encourages her to be herself.

If she knows she can eat in front of you however and whenever she likes, she knows she can count on you not to judge her.

Let me break it down for you: Embracing her eating habits and encouraging her to feel comfortable around you demonstrates that you accept her just as she is.

Nothing is sexier than a guy who adores you just the way you are.

4. It’s the perfect date.

I used to think dinner dates were boring. In fact, I didn’t even give the importance of eating together a second thought. Turns out, I just hadn’t found the right partner yet.

It can be sitting on the couch sharing slices of cheesecake while watching the latest episode of “Game of Thrones.” Or it can be indulging in intimate conversation under the soft lighting of your favorite romantic restaurant. Either way, food is the common denominator in building memories together.

5. Sugar makes her feel good.

When you eat sugar your brain produces more dopamine, a chemical that has a feel-good effect on your body.

Next time you’re having a tense conversation with your significant other, throw a pint of ice cream into the mix and see if it’s still possible to frown while sharing spoonfuls of happiness.

Guys who frequently take their girls out for dessert, or who constantly have a healthy reserve of ice cream in their freezer (for emergencies, of course) have it all figured out. Marry them.

6. Anticipating her mood makes you a wizard.

I cannot place enough emphasis on the preventative benefits of keeping your woman properly fed.

Hunger can lead to anger, mood swings and tears. If you suggest getting food before she’s even realized she’s hungry, it’s basically the equivalent of pulling a bunny out of a hat. She will look at you in awe and appreciate your awareness of her needs.

This skill is the end-all and be-all of relationship success.

Now go out there and feed your girl, i mean feed her, feed her well….

Health / 3 Scientific Discoveries That Could Lead To Cancer Cure by Yungkida(m): 11:42am On Apr 29, 2016
Cancer researchers have embarked on different scientific studies to provide a lasting solution to Cancer. A whole of victims of disease and loved ones have been glued to different TV health channels, websites, blogs, amongst others; to have first hand information about lung cancer news and possible cancer cure.

Cancer cure will soon be the new black of our lives. Below are the discoveries we believe could lead to cancer cure or provide a lasting solution to the disease.

Starving Cancer Cells

Researchers and scientists have the knowledge that most cancer cells make use of glucose to aid/fuel their uncontrolled growth. An international team of scientists and researchers has discovered a protein if switched off could stop the disease.

Isolation of Omnipresent Proteins or Antigens

Researchers have spotted rare ‘flag’ proteins that act as immune system targets and are displayed on the surface of all of a patient’s tumour cells, wherever they might be in the body.

Normally they are shielded from the immune system, or missed because rapidly evolving cancers present too many constantly changing targets.

Once the omnipresent proteins, or “antigens”, are isolated, potent immune system cells called T-cells can be employed as missiles to zero in on them and destroy the cancer.

Immunotherapy Discovery

Immunotherapies – treatments which harness the power of the immune system to fight cancer – have been making headlines around the world.

These powerful new weapons are exciting because once the immune system has ‘locked-on’ to a cancer cell it’s persistent and ruthless in taking it out. For patients in whom they work, Immunotherapies can produce long-lasting effects. Some have even suggested they could lead to cancer cure.

We were able to provide an answer to frequently asked question (FAQ) on “Lung Cancer Definition” in our last article. You can read that here – 6 Facts On The Best known Treatment For Lung Cancer - http://socialspy.ng/2016/04/13/6-facts-on-the-best-known-treatment-for-lung-cancer/

Fast forward to now, we will be taking into consideration stages of cancer and emphasis on “stage iv cancer”
Please note that the stages of cancer helps us to determine where the cancer is located within the body and it’s spread thus far. Most importantly to know whether it has affected other parts of the body.

Series of test is often carried out by the Doctor in charge to determine the stage at which the cancer is.
Below are the different stages of cancer.

Stage 0: “in situ” We describe this stage as being in a Tabula Raza state. That is, the cancer is on a clean state, still located at the place where it originated from. The cancer is still small and contained in her circle.

Stage 1: This stage shows that the cancer has not fully grown or spread into nearby tissues within the body. At this is stage, there is a spread into lymph nodes close to the tumour

Stage 2 & 3: This stage shows that the previously small cancer tumors gave grown and spread into nearby tissues within her territory. Usually spread to lymph nodes but not fully to other parts of the body

Stage 4: “Stage iv cancer” – This stage shows that the cancer has spread from it’s Tabula Raza state or “in situ” state into other body organs within the body. This “stage iv cancer is also known as secondary/advanced/metastatic stage. We can call a cancer “stage iv cancer” until there is a spread into distant part of the body.

Just tell us your age dude and don’t waste our time… There has been a controversy about the true age of the “Woju” crooner and Ebuka Obi-Uchendu was quick to bring up this issue on his TV show “Rubbin Minds”

The singer when asked by Obi-Uchendu to state his real age made it clear that:

Like seriously dude!!!! Not our own business

Ebuka: “How old are you?”
Kiss Daniel: “Anyways, about the age stuff, my team we’re putting out a press release about that.”
Ebuka: “Do you need a press release to say how old you are?”

Wizkid & Linda Ikeji traded words few weeks ago and was all over the social media. The Star boy threatened Linda Ikeji to have her physically assualted, writing on social media

‘If I ever see you, I’ll get my 16 year old cousin to beat the sh*t out of you’
Linda Ikeji didn’t take this threat lightly *to be battered by a 16 year old boy.
According to The NET, the controversial blogger has reported the threat to the Lagos State commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni & a summon has been issued to Wizkid to appear at the Police Command for questioning. The summons letter was sent to his manager Sunday Are’s office in Surulere but the pop star failed to show up.

We aren’t sure how far this case will go, but one thing we know is that Section 323 of the criminal code states that,

Any person who, knowing the contents thereof directly or indirectly causes any person to receive any writing threatening to kill any person is guilty of a felony, and is liable to imprisonment for 7 years

Culture / Michelle Obama On The Cover Of Seventeen Magazine With Gemma Busoni & Zaniya Lew by Yungkida(m): 5:51pm On Apr 15, 2016
First lady of the United States of America; Michelle Obama covers the latest edition of teenage magazine, Seventeen and rocking an Antonio Berardi dress, she shares the cover with the Better Make Room campaign essay winners Gemma Busoni and Zaniya Lewis.

In this issue Mrs. Obama talks about being The First Lady, her advice for her daughters and how she lets her haters motivate her.

Read excerpts of the interview below…
First thing’s first: don’t sweat if you don’t know what you want to be when you grow up.

“I always tell people, the question of what you want to be when you grow up is one that you will eternally be answering. I’m still asking myself that question!” Mrs. Obama says. “What am I going to do when I leave here? How do I want to impact the world? I’ve gotten used to the fact that I don’t have to know. I’m always going to be discovering new parts of myself, and you’ll find that you will be too.”

Not everybody supported her ambitions

“…When it was time for me to apply to colleges there were some counselors who said, ‘Maybe, with Princeton, you’re reaching a little high,’” she recalls. “And I thought, ‘You really don’t think I can do it?’ But here’s what I did: I decided to ignore the doubters. I plunged ahead and I got in. I went on to Harvard Law School and every step of the way I used those doubting voices as motivation.”

On picking the right college

“The one thing I’ve been telling my daughters is that I don’t want them to choose a name,” she says. “I don’t want them to think, ‘Oh I should go to these top schools.’ We live in a country where there are thousands of amazing universities. So, the question is: What’s going to work for you?”

Romance / How To Take A Break From A Relationship by Yungkida(m): 7:32pm On Apr 14, 2016
I’ll be sharing on how to take a break from a relationship. Relationship breakups arise sooner than expected if you fail to take the necessary measures. Often times, it is advised to take a break from a relationship for a short-while with some break leading to the end of a relationship.

What Does A Break Mean In A Relationship:

Taking a breaking from a relationship simply means that both parties need some time apart to conisder why they are in the relationship. Thus, evaluating whether the drive, the butterfly you once experience still exist.

Taking a break from a relationship is not breaking up totally – It’s as the name implies; taking a break. Although many relationship end as a result of taking a break. So to y’all still asking “what does a break mean in a relationship” are clear about this now. lol

How To Take A Break From A Relationship

Taking a break from a relationship is not literally a bad thing, as long as you are taking it in the right manner. You take a break from a relationship so clear the frustrations, nagging, confusion, amongst others.

When there’s love in the relationship, taking a break is not totally a bad idea. It helps to re-establish the appreciation and love for one another and also strengthen the relationship on the long run. ‘

Set Boundaries: The first thing when you’re considering a break is to set the rules to follow while on the break. Rules or boundaries such as: Are you allowed to hook up with other people? How many times are you going to see within a week or period during the break up, Should i have sex with someone else during the break? etc.

Stick to the already laid down boundaries/rules: Both parties should endeavor to stick to the above laid down boundaries/rules to guide them all through the break up process. You shouldn’t make out with someone else and go ahead lying to your spouse that you didn’t. The break was for a reason, see it till the end.

Have an end date: The break your’re experiencing shouldn’t go on till Jesus comes. It must have an end date. The end date is where both of you head back to the drawing board and evaluate the whole relationship again and checkmate whether the break did help.

Evaluate your feelings while apart: Evaluate your feelings towards your spouse while apart. Evaluation such as do i still love him? What are the things she does that piss you off? Does he leave the toilet seat open? and so on. And also evaluate what you miss about him when you’re apart.

Spend time with other people: Try spending time with other people during the break. This is not an avenue for you to go astray and mess the whole thing up. You can go for lunch with friends, bowling, skating etc. Spending time with others keep your mind fresh and rejuvenated.

Don’t give others priority above your spouse: In the process of spending time with friends, colleagues etc. Do not give them priority above your spouse. Do your best not to wail your mouth to folks that you are having a break.

Go with your heart: If you notice that you’re better off without him/her during the break up. Then you can as well follow your heart. Lol… I didn’t say anything though..

There is a five-year survival rate to anyone diagnosed with Lung cancer and statistics shows that about 54% of cases detected with the disease is still within the locality of the region. That is, within the lungs.

Apparently, only about 15% of lung cancer diseases are detected at an early stage. But if peradventure to other organs in the body, the five year survival rate cannot be guaranteed. Thus, estimated to about 4%.

Lung cancer mortality rate differs from individuals and early detection can go along way to increase lung cancer mortality rate.

Crime / 7 Things You Need To Know About The “panama Papers” by Yungkida(m): 7:45am On Apr 05, 2016
On Sunday, the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists published a massive leak of documents, dubbed the Panama Papers. And the following ensued.

What are the Panama Papers?
ICIJ and an international coalition of media outlets investigated the trove of papers, which allegedly reveal a clandestine network involving associates of Russian President Vladimir Putin, and business ties between a member of FIFA’s ethics committee and men whom the United States has indicted for corruption.
Why are they called the Panama Papers?
The more-than 11 million documents, which date back four decades, are allegedly connected to Panama law firm Mossack Fonseca. ICIJ reports that the firm helped establish secret shell companies and offshore accounts for global power players. ICIJ reports that a 2015 audit found that Mossack Fonseca knew the identities of the real owners of just 204 of 14,086 companies it had incorporated in Seychelles, an Indian Ocean archipelago often described as a tax haven.

Is it clear anything illegal has happened?
The documents do not necessarily indicate illegal activity. But shell companies and offshore accounts can be used to mask the origin of financial transactions and ownership. The files include people and companies that the U.S. has blacklisted due to drug trafficking and terrorism links, according to the ICIJ.

Who is implicated in the documents?
The documents reference 12 current or former world leaders, as well as 128 other politicians and public officials. In addition to allegations involving associates of Putin — the Russian leader isn’t himself mentioned by name in any of the documents — and FIFA, the papers also accuse the prime minister of Iceland, Sigmundur David Gunnlaugsson, of having ties, through his wife, to an offshore company that were not properly disclosed, while Argentina’s President Mauricio Macri is alleged to have failed to disclose links to a company in his asset declarations.

How have the accused responded to the Panama Papers?
The Kremlin has dismissed the allegations as “a series of fibs” aimed at discrediting Putin ahead of elections. FIFA, the international soccer governing body, called them “ridiculous.” A statement from the Icelandic prime minister’s office said the offshore firm he’s linked to was a holding company for his wife’s assets, enjoyed no tax advantages and was created to avoid conflicts of interest in Iceland, while a spokesperson for Argentina’s Macri said the president had never owned a stake in the firm he was linked to. However, Britain, France, Australia and Mexico have vowed investigations for possible tax evasion.

What is Mossack Fonseca saying?
On Monday, the firm released a statement:

“Our industry is not particularly well understood by the public, and unfortunately this series of articles will only serve to deepen that confusion. The facts are these: while we may have been the victim of a data breach, nothing we’ve seen in this illegally obtained cache of documents suggests we’ve done anything illegal, and that’s very much in keeping with the global reputation we’ve built over the past 40 years of doing business the right way, right here in Panama.
“Obviously, no one likes to have their property stolen, and we intend to do whatever we can to ensure the guilty parties are brought to justice.
Panama Papers a very big deal
Why the Panama Papers leak is a very big deal (Opinion)

“But in the meantime, our plan is to continue to serve our clients, stand behind our people, and support the local communities in which we have the privilege to work all over the world, just as we’ve done for nearly four decades.”
Firm co-founder Ramon Fonseca Mora told CNN earlier that the information published is false and full of inaccuracies and that parties “in many of the circumstances” cited by the ICIJ “are not and have never been clients of Mossack Fonseca.” The firm provided longer statements to ICIJ.
How did ICIJ get the documents?
An anonymous source gave the documents to Germany’s Suddeutsche Zeitung and the newspaper shared them with ICIJ. Other media organizations that reported on the documents include the BBC, The Guardian and McClatchy.
CNN is unable to independently verify the reports and is seeking comment from the most prominent figures mentioned. They are spread across Europe, Asia, the Middle East, Africa and the Americas.

Celebrities / Waje Stuns In New Promo Photos by Yungkida(m): 2:12pm On Nov 17, 2015
Waje is launching a worldwide campaign for gender equality and opportunity, aimed at empowering and enabling African women and girls to have qualitative education through her foundation which she has tagged #AfricanWoman.

The most important and often misunderstood concept in the narratives for gender equality is OPPORTUNITY. One of our key goals for this project is to create awareness about the need to guarantee the same opportunities for education and life choices for the African girl or woman. To make gender equality a reality in Africa, we must educate and empower women. I believe that the only way to do this is by being an example and a voice for our women who do not have the opportunity to speak for themselves. We must enlighten them. We must let them know that they can be the driving force of African growth. Through www.waje.safehouse.org , we will be touring the continent and kicking off a scholarship fund for 5 bright young women who are unable to fund their tertiary education.

The project will be launched on November 16 with a global petition in cities around the world where women and men will add their signatures in support of the equality of the African woman. In order to participate, people would be required to sign on banners in designated locations and post selfies on social media to spread the message.

Waje is also launching a scholarship fund for 5 young women who are unable to complete their education due to financial difficulties.

Crime / Taliban Leader Mullah Omar Is Dead, Says Afghan Government by Yungkida(m): 8:47pm On Jul 29, 2015
The Afghan government has said that Taliban leader Mullah Mohammad Omar died in Pakistan more than two years ago.

The announcement was based on “credible information”, the president’s spokesman said in an emailed statement on Wednesday, without providing any further details on what the information was.

“The government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, based on credible information, confirms that Mullah Mohammad Omar, leader of the Taliban died in April 2013 in Pakistan,” the statement said.

“The government of Afghanistan believes that grounds for the Afghan peace talks are more paved now than before, and thus calls on all armed opposition groups to seize the opportunity and join the peace process.”

The White House said it believed the reports of Omar’s death were credible and US intelligence was looking into them.

The Taliban has yet to confirm or deny the claims, which follow a week of speculation about the the fate of the insurgent leader. A Pakistani intelligence official, speaking to the Guardian, said they had been aware of Omar’s death since January 2014, based on information received from “close aides” of the militant chief and family members.
Afghanistan’s government was only informed after the recent peace discussions held by representatives of the Taliban and the Kabul government outside the Pakistani capital, he said. “Since we have to reveal it, we are doing so now,” he said. “Omar is dead and this is not something that happened now or in the recent past.”

Hasib Sediqi, spokesman for the Afghan intelligence agency, NDS, said the agency has known for a while that Omar “died suspiciously” in a hospital in Karachi in April 2013.

“We have been raising this question for the last one-and-a-half years,” he said, “We have intelligence that Mullah Omar is no longer alive. Now we are happy that foreign forces are confirming this as well.”

Rumours of the Taliban leader’s death have been rife for years. Omar, who was the Taliban’s head of state from 1996, has not been seen in public since the US-led coalition toppled his government in 2001.

Family / Daughters Get $20million Inheritance From Their Late Dad | But There’s A Tricky by Yungkida(m): 8:26pm On Jul 29, 2015
A wealthy Manhattan landlord left $20 million to his two daughters — but they can collect only on his strict terms.

Daddy Dearest real estate millionaire Maurice Laboz, who died earlier this year, doled out early-bird bonuses to his girls in his will as long as they marry right, get good jobs and don’t even think about having kids out of wedlock.

The Laboz girls — Marlena, 21, and Victoria, 17 — are set to inherit $10 million apiece when they turn 35. But they can get their hands on some of the dough beforehand if they follow Daddy’s rules for the straight and narrow.

For example:

* Marlena will get $500,000 for tying the knot, but only if her husband signs a sworn statement promising to keep his hands off the cash.

* She nets another $750,000 if she graduates “from an accredited university” and writes “100 words or less describing what she intends to do with the funds” — with the trustees appointed by her dad to oversee her money responsible for approving her essay.

* Both daughters get a big incentive to earn decent salaries by 2020. Each young woman is guaranteed to receive an annual payout of three times the income listed on their personal federal tax return. In a not-so-subtle nod to the taxman, their checks will be cut every April 15.

* If the daughters have kids and don’t work outside the house, the trustees will give them each 3 percent of the value of their trust every Jan. 1. There’s one catch: The money flows only for a “child born in wedlock.”

* The sisters could earn the same amount being “a caregiver” to their mother, Ewa Laboz, 58, whom their father was in the middle of divorcing. She got nothing in the will and has indicated that she will contest it.

“It’s a way to control things from the grave,’’ said estate lawyer Jeffrey Barr, who is not involved in the case.

“You don’t see a lot of it, but it happens. People do it because…they think it’s for the good of the children.’’

Late Maurice Laboz signed the will in April 2014, about nine months before he died at age 77. He left behind a $37 million fortune.

He justified leaving his wife out of his will by citing a “prenuptial agreement, which limits her rights,” according to the document.

Ewa Laboz filed court papers last month contesting that, arguing she deserves a share of the pot because she was still married to her husband when he died.

Crime / Driver Takes To His Heels As Truck Crushes Seven To Death In Calabar by Yungkida(m): 8:17pm On Jul 29, 2015
No fewer than seven persons have been confirmed dead following a road crash along the Calabar-Ikom highway in Cross River State, involving a truck and a 14-seater Toyota Hiace bus.
The ill-fated bus, which belongs to a transport firm known as Calculux, was heading for Port Harcourt when the accident occurred around New-Netim community in Odukpani Local Government Area.
Cross River State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Mr. Lawrence Ikechukwu, who confirmed the accident on Wednesday to newsmen in Calabar, said the Port Harcourt bound bus, which left its terminus in Calabar was loaded with 14 passengers.
He said, “The 14-seat bus belonging to the Calculux has number plate LAGOS LSR-813-XS. It was heading to Port Harcourt from Calabar and it was carrying 14 passengers, including the driver.
“The bus driver was on the right hand side of the road and the truck driver was overtaking dangerously and carelessly. The Calculux bus tried to avoid the truck and ran into the bush but the truck lost control and followed them to the bush. It crushed the bus and seven people died.
“The seven other persons are currently receiving treatment at the General Hospital in Calabar and a few of them are in critical conditions. From every indication, the driver of the truck was at fault because he was overtaking dangerously and he lost control.”
He added that the driver of the truck ran away shortly after the accident.
“We are working with the police to arrest the driver of the truck. We will get him and he will face the law. We have the manifest of the bus with us and we are working hard to contact the relatives of those that lost their lives,” he said.
