There is an acute shortage of Biochemists at present to study the soils, fertilizers, feedstuffs, insecticides, plant and animal hormones, plant growth regulators, herbicides, etc., particularly with special regard to the West African sub-region. Biochemical research workers are also needed for the provision of the basic biochemical knowledge which is lacking with regard to plant and animal nutrition and disease, the biochemical aspects of the germination, growth, repening and spoilage of fruits and crops, and several other such topics which are important to agriculture and veterinary science in West Africa. There is also a desperate need for trained personnel to conduct studies on tropical products of economic significance (such as hide and skins, commercially important natural fibers, timbers, gums, resins and other forest products), with particular reference to the biochemical problems connected with their production, utilization, storage, biodeterioration, etc. Local industrial undertakings, particular those based on raw materials obtained from animal, plant and microbial sources (such as those industries concerned with foods, beverages, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, ect.) are bound to need increasing numbers of biochemists in their product-development..........CLICK LINK TO CONTINUE myschoolguides.com.ng/2019/02/05/must-rradwhere-to-work-as-a-biochemist-in-nigeria/ |

The joy of changing a person s life by creating a beautiful, healthy smile is one of the intangible rewards of being a dentist that can t be measured. The profession of dentistry is an extremely complex field to enter. It is both challenging and rewarding. Do you remember what motivated you to enter dentistry? Have you ever wondered if you would choose dentistry again if you were given the opportunity to make another career choice? When undergraduate students are asked why they want to go to dental school, their replies usually reflect some idealistic expectation of what the profession can give them. Many people are confused by the terms Medical laboratory science/technology and Science laboratory technology .Both are different courses which has been interchangeably used by aspirants and some individual,To the students the two courses are good but it is better to learn now and make your choice earlier to avoid mistakes . Below are the major differences: FACULTY/SCHOOL Medical Laboratory Science is a Medical Science course studied in university or College of Health Sciences only. In the university, it is studied in the College of Medicine under the Faculty of Health Sciences. Medical Laboratory Assistant and Technicians are trained in the College of Health technology while Medical Laboratory Scientist are trained in the universities. NOTE : None of the Medical Laboratory Science professionals are trained in the Polytechnics as many Polytechnic graduates and students of Science Laboratory Technology claim to belong to the Medical Laboratory Science Profession as one can only mistake them to be the same if one does not belong to medical/ health profession or has not been admitted to study any of the course. Whereas, Science Laboratory Technology is studied in the faculty of Biological or Natural Science in the universities and under the school of science in the polytechnics, graduates of Science Laboratory Technology from the polytechnic are called Technician while their counter part from the universities are called Laboratory Technologist. (NOTE No medical here) COURSES OFFERED AND DURATION The courses offered by medical laboratory science students include Medical Biochemistry, Human Anatomy, Human Physiology, Haematology, Pharmacology, forensic analysis, Embalment techniques, Clinical pathology, Biostatistics, virology, Medical Microbiology and Parasitology public Health and Epidemiology etc. The duration of study for medical laboratory Assistant and Technicians are 2 and 3years respectively, hence the duration of study for medical laboratory scientist is 5 years in the university leading to the award of Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science (BMLS) degree plus 1 year internship programme and 1 year NYSC making a total of seven years (7) training. While the course offered by students of Science Laboratory Technology are pure a.... ...click link to continue myschoolguides.com.ng/2018/08/14/must-readmajor-differences-between-science-laboratory-technologyslt-and-medical-laboratory-technology-science-mlt-mls/ |

The peculiar smell of disinfectant was very familiar. It impelled me to spontaneous reminiscences that enlivened my mental clime, citing me to jittery memories of my childhood dread of being here. And with the little I could recollect coupled with the tales my mom usually tells of my adamant obstinacy those times; I abhorred the prickle of a needle on my precious skin, always protesting although to a downright futility. Even to this day, the odour of drugs always irked me to worrisome nauseation and the sensation of tablets passing down my oesophagus aggravated the resentment. Isn’t it therefore rather surprising and somewhat ironical that the then “hospito-phobic” fellow now trains to become a practising professional who would prickle the skins of others with needles and make prescriptions to a drug-swallowing effect? . It was a beautiful Monday morning and the bright cast of the sun rays promised nothing short of a fulfilling day. Well, it already was a fulfilling day for me and the rest of my colleagues for we have waited patiently, like the proverbial patient Dog,toiling very hard to make it to this level in the thorny path of medical training after the tumultuous storms of pre-clinicals. The joy of scaling through the hurdles of our 1st professional examination eclipsed all other possible life worries to...... ...click link to continue myschoolguides.com.ng/2018/08/03/a-must-read-for-medical-students-and-aspirantsthe-world-of-clinical-wardsa-narration-by-agubama-fimbar-francis/
