I’ve been thinking a lot lately about how some of us inherit more than just traits from our families. Sometimes it’s a whole legacy of struggle . My mom was a warrior in her own way. She came from nothing, born into poverty that clung to her like a shadow she couldn’t shake. She hustled every day of her life, breaking her back as a laborer, hawking goods as a vendor, taking on every dirty job imaginable, just so I could have a shot at something better . She poured everything into me, but the ends never quite met. I don’t think I ever saw her smile, not really. She carried that weight until it took her at 44, worn out from a fight she couldn’t win .
Now I’m 31, and it’s like I’m living her life all over again. I’ve walked the same rough roads, broke, battered by the same relentless grind. At 31 years old, I can’t even boast of 5k naira in my account , chasing happiness that never shows up. It’s not just about money; it’s this heaviness that sticks to me, like a curse stitched into my bones. I don’t want to believe in curses, but when you see the same pain replaying, generation after generation, it’s hard not to wonder . I don’t have kids yet, but I’m terrified of passing this down, of watching them inherit a life where joy feels like a stranger .
I guess I’m just tossing this out there because I can’t be the only one who feels this. How do you break a cycle that’s been spinning before you were even born? Anyone else ever look at their life and think, ‘This has to stop with me’? I’d love to hear how people keep going, or better yet, how they turn it around .

It was not a funny situation on that fateful day, a day I will never forget in a jiffy, I went visiting my then "afesono's" folks, we where in a clandestine relationship, nobody knew we were dating for almost a year, nobody knew fa. Omo olomo didn't want attention.

My dove knows how to keep secrets, we had secret codes of communication but on that day to remember I forgot about the time, mehn we really had loads of fun in those days and we still do now with my daughter joining the mix.

She suggested I sleep over, but I had to go, I had to send some reports to Oga Pascal, it was almost 11pm her "angwa" was dark and to top it off NEPA made sure the moon was the only source of illumination.

In other for her not to trek back alone, her younger brother( my now bro in-law) had to tag along in other for him to chaperone my queen back home. So on our way to the main road where I will take keke to my stop, we heard shouts not too far from us about some group of boys pursuing a suspected thief from the main road not too far from us, and as law abiding citizens we reduced pace in order for them to chase whoever it is pass us so we can go on our own way without interference. If I had known what was about to happen sha, omo the story long o.

If I had known, I would have listen to her and pass the night at her folks place, but God used this experience to teach me a lesson, only God knows why I needed to suffer for me to hear "word" from God. I no dey hear word o, most people know say I stubborn gan.

Before we could say "Bala blu", my brother in-law freaked out and sprinted off like a Hussein Bolt ahead of the pack and this goons chasing after the suspected thief, and suddenly, others joined in the chase and they stopped chasing the thief, (more of these goons chasing the park joined from a burukutu joint close to the road) changed course and started chasing after my brother in-law, this boy overtook the thief, and took his place.

Till date I don't really know why bros ran like thief, what or which spirit entered him, may be spirit of Elijah sha, after that incident, it was weird coz he couldn't explain what got into him.

OK sha, the whole thing was getting more heated up and interesting when they couldn't catch up with him, and we also have to run after him, calling & shouting his name, only God knows why he was running like muribay & why he couldn't stop. my babe was shouting "he is not a thief oooo" he's my brother ooo! Muribay stop! Muribay oooo. Him name no b Muribay. (*Muribay is a pseudo name.)

When they couldn't catch up with him, and the thief who was their person, as in the thief ran home, in other to cover him up, they pounced on me, and me being the only foreigner in their midst, ofcourse they couldn't catch up with my bro in-law too, he was long gone, gunners Lomo.

These dude brought out clubs and sticks and started clubbing me, me that didn't know anything, they started ranting in Hausa that I am the thief, my queen left her bro and covered me up, started calling their names because the are all her area boys in her lungu

It wasnt funny anymore, the reality here is that I was being lynched, far away from home, in the dead of the night, for minding my own business, this is Nigeria, jungle justice style, awon werey fe PA Ina

Jesus, I was scared, beaten, battered but this girl didn't leave my side fa, she took alot of beatings and blows too, and to make matters worse, I didn't understand all the Hausa rants, I was confused..

They have to stop beating me shitless because of her and the whole rubbish happened within 30mins, I already had numerous koko on my head. The whole thing cleared off, and they stepped back after an elderly man brought my bro in-law back after he was caught hiding in his poultry. Na only God know why he didn't run home.

The dude didn't run home, he ran pass his father's house and went to hide in a poultry shed, when they brought him back and also recognized he was not the actual thief we had to head back home to sleep and report case to my wife's mom, I was really dealt with, I received enough kondo for head.

I recieved the beating of my life, that night God showed me my wife! I could not afford to loose this selfless girl that took blows on my behalf, covered me, shielded me from my enemies... So #Sept5 in a few weeks baby, It's always a day to specially celebrate my lovely you.
