Elon Musk said Friday that his much-hyped cage fight with Mark Zuckerberg would take place in Italy, as authorities there confirmed talks about hosting a “great charity event.”

While any showdown between the two tech titans has yet to be officially confirmed, Musk said on his X social media platform — formerly known as Twitter — that arrangements were advancing.


“I spoke to the PM of Italy and Minister of Culture,” Musk wrote, referring to Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. “They have agreed on an epic location.”


Italian Culture Minister Gennaro Sangiuliano confirmed speaking to Musk about “how to organize a great charity event evoking history” but said any match “will not be held in Rome.”

Musk apparently hopes the fight would take place in the ancient Colosseum, a UNESCO World Heritage site, posting about the idea in late June.

In a statement, Sangiuliano said any event with Musk would raise “a huge sum, many millions of euros, (that) will be donated to two important Italian pediatric hospitals.”

“It will also be an opportunity to promote our history and our archaeological, artistic and cultural heritage on a global scale,” he said.

Musk said “everything done will pay respect to the past and present of Italy” and that proceeds will “go to veterans.”

He said the cage match would be managed by foundations run by himself and Zuckerberg and not by UFC, the Las Vegas-based mixed martial arts promoter.

UFC boss Dana White, still seeking participation in the event, told Mike Tyson’s podcast this week that he believed the fight would generate $1 billion in revenue.

The two tech tycoons, who have occasionally jousted from afar, became direct competitors after Zuckerberg’s Meta launched its Twitter-like Threads platform in early July.

In a slightly frivolous aside, Musk later Friday posted a phrase in Latin that translates as “it is delightful to play the fool occasionally.”

Musk did not mention a date for the proposed fight, but said he may need to undergo “minor surgery” to resolve a “problem with my right shoulder blade rubbing against my ribs.”

“Recovery will only take a few months,” he added.
The world’s richest person has a titanium plate holding two vertebrae together but said Friday it is currently “not an issue.”


Zuckerberg, a martial arts enthusiast who has taken part in jiujitsu competitions, did not immediately comment.

A collapsed Overhead Water Storage Tank has crushed a 34-year-old lady, Joy Amadi, to her death in Benin, Edo state

A NAN Correspondent, who visited the scene of the incident, reports that the family of the deceased, who recently completed her NYSC service, has been plunged into grief.


The deceased was said to have been in her room when the tank erected in a neighbour’s new building, collapsed, penetrating the roofing sheet and crushing her to death.


The incident, NAN learnt, occurred on Aug. 4 on Enagbare Street, off Lucky Street in Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area of Edo.

In an interview with NAN on Friday, Mrs Beatrice Amadi, the deceased mother, said her daughter was inside helping her to shell melon when the tragedy struck.

The deceased, who was a teacher at a private school in the area, the mother said, did not go to work because she had free periods throughout the day.

She described Joy as kind, humble and hardworking, who helped the family to pay their house rent.
Mrs Amadi said the death of her daughter was devastating and had left a vacuum in the family, which would be difficult to be filled.

“Since Joy grew up, I have neither swept this house nor washed my clothes. She did everything and even helped to pay our house rent.

“I will wish a lot about her. It will be difficult to live without my daughter,” the obviously grieved mother told NAN.

The deceased father, Mr Michael Amadi, said he was at work when he received a distressed call.
“When I returned home, I met people gathered at my residence where the sad news was broken to me.”
Meanwhile, sources, who spoke with NAN blamed the incident on a shoddy job by the engineer handling the project.
The sources said the neighbour’s new house belonged to somebody who lived abroad.

You know our people now, perhaps because the owner is not around, the engineer carried out a shoddy job.
“Unfortunately, the thing left the compound to kill the lady in the next house,” one of the sources said.
However, Mr Amadi said the site engineer had been arrested by the police while the corpse of her daughter had been deposited at an undisclosed morgue.

The deceased family hails from Affa in Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State.
When contacted, SP Chidi Nwabuzor, Public Relations Officer of the Edo Police Command said he was yet to be briefed.

Harry Kane is on the brink of a move to Bayern Munich, Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou confirmed on Friday.

The two clubs have reportedly agreed a fee worth an initial 100 million euros ($110 million, £86 million) for the 30-year-old striker, who had just one year left on his contract at Spurs.

The United States said the junta that took power in Niger Republic would be held accountable for the safety of democratically elected President Mohamed Bazoum, his family, and detained members of the government.

“The United States joins the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) in calling for the restoration of constitutional order in Niger,” U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said in a statement.


The United States recently paused certain foreign assistance programs for Niger after the military junta overthrew the democratically elected president.


West Africa’s regional bloc on Thursday ordered the activation of a standby force for possible use against the junta that took power in Niger in July.

It said it wanted a peaceful restoration of democracy but all options, including force, were on the table.

According to Blinken, the United States appreciates the determination of ECOWAS to explore all options for the peaceful resolution of the crisis.

The threat of an invasion, though not specific, raises tensions in and around Niger, a uranium producer that until the coup, was an important ally of the West in the fight against Islamist insurgents devastating the Sahel region.

The junta, which seized power on July 26, had defied an Aug. 6 deadline to stand down set by ECOWAS, instead closed Niger’s airspace and vowing to defend the country against any foreign attack.

The bloc pledged to enforce sanctions, travel bans and asset freezes on those preventing the return to power of Bazoum.

A Jos Magistrates’ Court on Friday sentenced a 42-year-old bus conductor, Musa Abdul to one month imprisonment for stealing engine oil from a shop.

Magistrate Shawomi Bokkos, summarily sentenced Abdul after he pleaded guilty.

Bokkos, however, gave the convict an option of fine of N10, 000.

The magistrate said the punishment would serve as deterrent to others who would want to indulge in similar crime.

Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Insp Ibrahim Gokwat, told the court that the case was reported on July 15, at the Laranto Police Station, by one Samson Obodo, the complainant.

Gokwat said the convict was caught carrying cartons of engine oil away from the shop.

The offence, he said, was punishable under the provisions of the Plateau state Penal Code Law.
