LoL... You are very funny. Has Peter Power ever been loyal to PDP before? He joined APC during Aregbesola's regime, he's not a stable politician.

Even the reviews of water online could prevent you from drinking water..Lol Bisoprolol is a beta blocker that lowers your heart rate, consequently allowing your heart to pump blood more efficiently..Like most antihypertensives it comes with side effects although not everyone gets them.

What's your new blood pressure? Is it lesser than 130/85? Do you have a blood pressure monitor at home? The increase in pulse while at the hospital is tied to white coat syndrome. A fear and anxiety that stems from the uncertainty of your hospital visit..

Before initiating Bisoprolol, I would advice you get a home monitor to measure your BP consistently at home, to get a better idea of its true state without the excess adrenaline rush, that could push it up at the hospital..

In my opinion and personal experience, the Bisoprolol is totally unnecessary if it's just for a shoot in pulse while you at the hospital..

Thank you very much for the timely response sir, I really appreciate.
The last time I checked my BP, it was 131/85... but the thing is, I still experience palpitations. I may be sleeping now, I will just suddenly wake up, and my heart will be palpitating for no reason.
This particular doctor I've been visiting is not even interested in investigating what is causing my HBP, he just dismissed it as a family history. Maybe or maybe not. I feel that my brain send unnecessary fear signal to my body. Seriously, I'm confused.

I am glad to hear you took an alternative path. Losartan is a very good medication but not a first line for moderate hypertension that isn't compounded with other issues like diabetes and left ventricular hypertrophy. It's biggest gain is in diabetic nephropathy where it helps improve kidney function for people with diabetes...

Relodipin is an Indian Pharmaceutical brand of the active ingredient Amlodipine and it's a very effective antihypertensive. Don't forget to cut down on sait, eat plenty of vegetables and fruits and stay active ...All the best
Good evening, doc.

For more than a month, I have been taking Amlodipine. Eve though the bp has gone down a bit, my pulse is always high anytime I'm around in the hospital. It's like something is wrong with my brain. I become anxious easily.

The doctor of the private hospital I've been visiting has prescribed another drug (Bisoprolol). However, the reviews I've read about the drug is not so encouraging. What do you advise sir?

I lost an immediate sister twenty years ago to diabetes. She was just 19years old. At sixteen one of my sisters already had blood pressure as high as 200/110. Then one morning, 8 years ago, I got up to a blood pressure of 260/154. Today My BP is 115/65. It has been a journey of faith, commitment, discipline and grace..It is safe to say I come from a family with genes that are prone to endocrine disorders.

Essential hypertension happens to most people as they get older. For teens and younger persons hypertension can be caused by different reasons. It could be primary as seen in obese kids or secondary as aresult of hormonal issues, kidney problems etc..

Looking at your prescriptions, Amlodipine a calcium channel blocker is a good first line. However I am a little surprised it is being associated with Losartan an ARB instead of a diuretic like HCT which is a recommended first line for blacks . I don't know the specifics of your blood tests so can't question your doctor's choice.

However my honest opinion is that you see a specialist for consultation. An Internist or Cardiologist would be better choices. They would start by running a comprehensive blood tests to check on your kidney fuction, lipids, electrolytes etc. Based on your specific symptoms he might want to check on hyperaldosteronism which causes an excess production of aldosterone that shoots the BP, hyperthyroidism that produces excess hormones that fasten metabolism and stiffen the arteries etc..

Wishing you all the best..

Thank you very much sir.
I went to a private hospital. The doctor that attended to me (over 34 years experience) also did not recommend losartan like you said. I was given an injection (don't know what it's meant for) and six different drugs. I think Relodipin is the only antihypertensive among the drugs. He also said I will take the injection for three to four days.

How many energy drink do you consume per day?

The number of energy drinks I've taken in my life can't be up to ten, I'm very sure. Even at times, for months, I may not take any carbonated drink. No alcohol. I don't even like sugar. It's very surprising to me, sincerely.

High blood pressure could be genetic as well
It's not just about drinking or smoking
Also your diet can play a major role
Salts, cholesterol etc
It's a bit abnormal tho for someone in his mid twenties to develop hbp
So I'll suggest you go seek a second medical opinion

Thanks so much sir. I will do as advised.

HPB could be caused by genetic/history or lifestyle. It can be controlled back to the normal level with adherence to medications, proper diet and lifestyle.
You need to cut down on salt intake

Thank you sir, I appreciate your input.

As for the drugs, do I have to continue taking it forever?
Health / Treatment And Advice Needed On High Blood Pressure by zealousayo(m): 1:16pm On Jun 23
Good day, Nairalanders.

I would like to seek your advice on my current health situation. I went to my company's clinic on Friday, because my body was always hot. I also noticed symptoms like thinning hairs/falling hairs, sometimes smelly and foamy urine.

My BP was checked at the clinic, boom, it was abnormally high. Upon consultation with the doctor, he ordered some tests (blood and urine). After I brought him back the test results, he prescribed two blood pressure regulation drugs(amlodipine and losartan), one antibiotic (amoxicillin), and one antimalarial (benart).

Upon seeing the BP drugs, I became apprehensive, which made ask him if there's an alternative. He told me to adjust my diet and lifestyle. Also, he told me I may decide to keep the drugs for a week and seek second opinion.

Before I went there, I was suspecting hyperthyroidism. However, the doctor did not say anything about it. He said thinning/falling of hairs is a normal thing.

NOTE:
1. I'm in my mid-twenties
2.I don't drink alcohol.
3. I don't smoke.
4. I'm very slim, not overweight.
5.My work is not really stressful.
6. Gender: male

I'm also planning to go to the general hospital around me for further consultation. Please I need your input. It's really breaking my heart, I'm too young for this.

Thank you for anticipated timely responses.

Looking at all of the answers, I'm amazed at such ignorance, someone who said you need to be educated claims salt blocks the arteries/blood vessels.. I think I've to write in everyone's mention.. However to you in particular, there's nothing wrong with you as long as you don't experience angina on the left side of your chest. If you do, then mention me,i can change my write-up. Your lifestyle needs to change, garlic and ginger also works wonders.. Stay away from noodles. The list is long but I'll stop here.. Let me conclude here, blood pressure going up is totally normal and it goes up in different times of the day and in tandem with your body weight.. You can mention for further clarification. Danke.
Good afternoon sir.

It's not safe, but like every other substance, there is a certain amount (ppm) you can't inhale. The one added to your cooking gas is very low.

All right, gotten.
Are you a process engineer?

So I saw a lot of comments made out of ignorance on this thread

https://www.nairaland.com/8096708/why-does-petrol-colour-differ#130020767

Let me clear all doubts and fears by explaining it.

You see, when PMS (petrol) is produced in the refinery or imported from abroad, it is colourless; very clear just like water. But for the users, you and I, to differentiate it from water or kerosene, that "pinkish" colour is intentionally added.

The process of adding that colour is called "Dye-ing" and it has nothing to do with the octane rating or quality of the petrol. It is just for safety purpose.

And Yes, you can actually have different shades of that "pinkish" colour because the petrols are coming from different sources with different amounts of "dye". That is, the "ppm" differs, hence the different shades. No need to be scared.

This is also similar to the "smell" you perceive in your kitchen when your gas is leaking. When cooking gas (LPG) is produced, it is odourless. (It actually has a smell but not that one you perceive in your kitchen)

That "smell" you perceive is intentionally added so that you can tell when the gas is leaking.

The process of adding that "smell" to cooking gas is called "Odourization", and the substance used for the odourizing is mercaptan. Usually Ethyl Mercaptan. (Only chemistry people will understand this grin grin)

That "smell" also has nothing to do with the quality of your cooking gas. It is just for safety purpose.

But is there adulterated petrol? Definitely yes, but it's not really what the masses assume. (I will talk about this on a different post)

Now you know!!!

Mynd44 and fergie001, let's educate people.
Nice one.
But mercaptan contains sulphur, in fact, it's one of the forms sulphur exist in petroleum. My question is, is it safe to inhale something like that?
