sirabbey: With your Canadian immigration visa on your passport, you don't need a transit visa for the Lagos-Amsterdam-Calgary and Lagos-Germany-Calgary routes. Use TripAdvisor, FlightScanner, etc to search for affordable flight fees, provided you're flexible with your travel dates and layover length. I did all these. The fares are crazy expensive except the ones that transit through America which requires transit visa. |

sirabbey: Should be enough, but even if you miss your connecting flight to Calgary due to landing formalities, the airline would likely book you on another connecting flight at no extra cost.
The question, however, is why choose this flight route when you can fly into Calgary directly ie. Lagos-Amsterdam-Calgary or Abuja-London-Calgary. Air fares are crazy for any flight that passes through Europe. Plus transit visa wahala |

Hello all. Thanks for all the engagement and useful advice on this thread. I have a question: Please is 3hrs and 30min layover enough for a new PR to complete the landing process in Toronto before flying to Calgary? I am about to book my flight and I need the opinion of folks who have gone through the process. Thanks. |

ferfer: A little bit about the nursing project - I have focused on that because it's been a dream of yours and that pivoting from it will not make you feel complete.
1) Athabasca University used to have online pre-health science courses. Also check in with your university if it is acceptable or if they have a course equivalency chart for pre nursing courses from online Athabasca University. This way you have time to work + family responsibilities.
2) Congratulations on your PR. This may not be for you but it's good for families with kids transitioning from 'one' environment to the 'other' to try to foster independence. If you happen to have someone who helps around the home, this is the time to thank them and pay them off. Independence in every member of the family from the daddy to the mummy and the young ones, especially with regards to domestic duties, self care and activities of daily living is very important for new immigrants.
3) It is achievable academically and people do it all the time. I know folks who came into this country and started, arguably, more difficult, and expensive professional undergraduate degrees like Dentistry, Medicine, Pharmacy and were able to graduate. Was it tough, oh yes, it probably was for these folks. Is it worth it? That is subjective.
4) MSL, DSW and Pharm. Tech. are also rewarding and awesome career lines. Go for it!
Goodluck. Please is getting admission to study courses like Medical Laboratory Technology, Nursing, etc Competitive? I am single with little savings and would like to get advice on what best to do after arriving Canada (I got PR in April) in terms of work or study. The money I saved would be sufficient for school fees but not rent or feeding. |

I finally got FD on 24th April and PPR on 27th. Submitted passport on 28th Collected my stamped passport and ppr from vfs on 30th April. No adr or pfl and I was very anxious. You can check out some of the questions I was asking on this thread. Some good people responded both here and on my dm. Some scammers also rushed to my dm to try some tricks but I clocked them immediately. My appreciation to whomever opened this thread and gave very detailed information, those who have been answering questions too and those who have been keeping things going here. Please is there any thread about life in Canada for a new PR? Zeemaan: It's like pvo Ottawa + svo Sydney is very slow. My file has been stagnant since after I submitted biometrics.
Timeline: AOR December 20 BIL January 28 Bil submitted January 29 Eligibility not started, background verification in progress since 29 January.
Ordered GCMS on 6 February and 2nd March and they were exactly the same, no change since biometrics. I don tire.
My fear is that they should not reject my application after I have waited this long coupled with the chance that I won't easily get another ita due to age. I just wish they completed my eligibility. Background can take as long as it has to take and I won't really bother |

Hemanwel: OP, from my own experience: I have realized that most girls who are into online dating or interested in blind dates are not so beautiful girls. They are girls with one or two commas on their physical look hence, their self-esteem has diminished in real life. The reason they resort to online dating.
The very beautiful girls don't have time for online dating. These ones get attentions from men the moment they step out of their houses. They have not finished dealing with men they come across on the streets on daily basis, how much less having time for online dating.
That's just my personal observation and experience You're right to a large extent; however, women love attention and won't mind flocking to wherever they'll be getting some extra. |

Please can anyone interpret this? Does it mean eligibility passed?
For more context, eligibility and security on the gcms shows "not started". Every other thing shows passed/completed.
Thanks.

What they do in the gulf is just pure exploitation due to the power imbalance between employer and employee ie, employee cannot leave the job or country without employer consent. He can go 8f he's desperate enough sha. The sad thing is that he wouldn't even have much to show for it on his return. Not usually worth it in my honest opinion. |

amazonguru001: If you love that your stubborn brother wey no wan hear wise counsel from you, ask him to read my response.
Make him case no be like stubborn flies wey follow shit enter soakaway o, for his own benefit he better listens.
If he is not getting a professional job through sites like LinkedIn he should be very very very careful.
That was how my Friend's younger sister who lives in the same city with me wasted her saving on her husband. Husband was out of job here in naija and was frustrated. Out of frustration he began to look for travelling opportunities, that was how he landed in Kuwait with promises of landing a job. Our guy got there only to discover there was no job. The living condition was hell on earth. His wife in Naija kept sending money to him so he could survive. She even encouraged him to keep managing himself till he gets a job, while she will keep sending his upkeep.
But when the condition became unbearable. Plus the very mad haaaawt sun, our brother had to japada back to Naija. This almost drove their marriage to an utter crash.
Abeg wetin dey Oman or Kuwait wey him dey go. Except he gets a job in an oil field as HSE, Mud Engr, Drilling Engr, QAQC, SLS, Wireline Engr etc for any other job, he has to be double sure before leaving here o.
I wish both of you all the best. Make money no enter bush oh. Make he nor come dey regret that singular move.
Selah Even the professional jobs sef. Pay is still low and working conditions are not favourable. You'll also not be free to leave the country without your employer/sponsors permission. Nobody should be going to the gulf from Africa except on holiday or for jobs that can only be done by 0.1 percent of the global population. And anyone with such rare skill will find themselves in better countries. |
Travel › Re: Guys Should I Go Ahead And Sponsor Him Or Should I Not ? by Zeemaan: 4:42pm On Feb 17 |
joebeckz: I have called my friend in Kuwait and this were her words .
Before leaving Africa she was promised a good salary, but when she arrived the contract was different and the pay was lower than what she agreed to. Because she had already travelled and even borrowed money to go, she had no real choice but to accept it. This is common where workers are shown one contract at home and another on arrival. Her employer collected her passport immediately. Even though this is illegal, it still happens a lot. Without her passport she could not leave the country and she could not change jobs.
Under the sponsorship (kafala) system, the employer controls your residency status. If they cancel it, you can instantly become illegal. Because of that she was afraid to complain even when she worked very long hours with almost no proper rest days. Sometimes her salary was delayed. Some days she worked from morning until late night. She depended completely on the employer.
She also told me her movement was controlled. Even going out into the city was scheduled by the employer, sometimes only once a month. Many workers she knows live the same way. They have been there for years and cannot easily leave because their passports are held and their visa depends on the employer. She feels trapped and says she lives like a slave because she cannot freely decide where to go or when to stop working. It has affected her mentally and emotionally.
The weather is another serious problem. During summer temperatures can go above 50°C. For people working outside like construction, security, or delivery, heat stroke and dehydration are real dangers. Even indoor domestic workers still suffer because of long hours and lack of rest.
There are also strict laws and cultural differences. Alcohol is illegal, public behaviour rules are stricter, and even social media posts criticizing authorities or arguing with employers can become legal trouble. Something normal back home may become a police matter there. If you do not speak Arabic it becomes even harder to defend yourself or solve disputes.
No matter the confirmation or promises given before travelling, it is still risky. Almost everyone my friend knows there is in similar conditions, working only under employer terms and unable to freely change jobs. Some people succeed, but many struggle silently because they cannot just leave.
If you still plan to sponsor him, make sure everything is officially verified. Use only licensed recruitment channels, never let him travel on a tourist visa to work, confirm the contract through official authorities before he leaves, ensure he keeps copies of all documents, inform family of his exact address and employer, register with his embassy immediately after arrival, and get written agreement that the employer will not keep his passport and allows job transfer if needed.
Please do not rush because of money. Sometimes what looks like an opportunity can turn into suffering if things are not properly arranged. It is better to delay and be safe than to send someone into a situation where leaving becomes difficult. Spot on. They promise you good conditions only for you to arrive and meet something different. Is it the accommodation? Or salary or roles? They'll change everything. And even if they don't seize your passport, you still won't be able to travel because you'll be needing exit visa which can only be done by your employer. OP and his brother should not be carried away. They should either start a business here or look for another country in Europe. Or even learn French and try Canada through the French category draws. |

NiceTri: You can use it (if it covers the period you claimed point for). But note that contact address might change for your work. Your manager/supervisor then might not be the same now in the case you provided a contact in your reference letter for verification. Sorry for cutting in. Please what if my reference letter is not dated and doesn't have a recipient address or a "to whom it may concern"? It meets ircc specification otherwise. |

Please for the bank statement, I recently sold some stocks on bamboo and whitdrew the money into the bank account I intend to use for pof.
But there is one issue. My bamboo account statement that shows me whitdrawing the ammount doesn't have any contact information. But my trade confirmation containing proof that I sold my stocks has "Lambeth Securities Capitals Limited" on it and no single mention of bamboo. The 2 documents don't align at all. Trade confirmation is in dollars, stock account statement is in naira.
Please any idea on how I could navigate this? Would they also need the source of funding for my stocks or they'll be satisfied with me just giving them my stock trade confirmations and wallet statement showing that I transferred the money from there to my bank account? |

Sheron50: You misunderstood the requirement. All you need to upload is the digital photo when applying pr;the back is not required. When your visa is approved, that’s when you will submit the printed photo with your name and the photographer’s address written on the back. Oh. Thank you for clarifying. |

Please for the digital passport photo, am I to upload the photo and the additional document which contains our date of birth and details about the photo studio as a single pdf file? I'm confused about the instructions on ircc website. On the website, it says that there would be 2 upload fields - one for the digital photo and the other for the back or for an additional document containing information about the studio. But on the upload page, there is only one space. |
