Please where can I download the SVP checklist. I have seen it on DIAC's site but it doesn't look normal copying and downloading from their page. I checked for it Immi.gov.au/checklists still proves abortive. Page not found. Somebody answer??!!
VFS has the document. They will give it to you to tick and sign. If they forget to give it to you, request for it.

Oh lucky you, I was able to google my way to the document for you to download

My advice is you give the ongoing recruitment process your best shot. I know it normally last up to 12mnths, but be patient enough to see how it turn out before coming to Australia.
Getting a graduate job in Australia or any other jobs depends on your experience. For graduate jobs, your experience in a multinational firms can be of great value and for casual jobs, local experience here in Australia rules.
If at all you don't have graduate experience and you are DESPERATE to have one, what I'll advice is you approach a firm or recruitment agency in Australia stating your willingness to learn and work even without PAY, Yeah, without pay. If they can cover your insurance, good for you. You can combine the job with another casual jobs so you can be able to pay off your bills. Who knows, the company may decide to start paying you later. But the experience is what you will need to apply for permanent residence.

ArtistA:
Hi Everyone,

I applied for a Temporary skilled graduate Visa (18 months validity, multiple entry) which was approved some weeks back. I was given a one year window to turn up in Australia before it starts counting. I have a BEng (Nig) & MSc (UK) in Chem Eng. I'm in Nigeria at the moment and thankfully, participating in a recruitment process of which if am successfully, I might not really need to tow the visa path. (Not still convinced yet undecided). Truth is I love Nigeria and would be happy if I can contribute to making things work but unfortunately, the love has never been returned. Having this at the back of my mind, I always try to seek alternatives. So guyz,

I need advice (Especially from those currently in Australia) on how best to go about graduate job search in Australia.
I decided to give Australia a try because I heard there are lots of prospects there.
I am already searching online using search agencies like seek, careerone, gradconnection etc. How effective are these sites with respect to graduate job search?.
I am hoping to secure an offer here before travelling over as it will help determine so many things e.g travel destination/city, housing, proximity etc. Can this be done or do I have to set foot in Australia to achieve this? How soon from experience can I secure a job on either scenario?. ( I don't know anyone in Australia)
My past work experience has been internship roles in the O&G sector thus the search for grad positions. I'm open to contract smiley or full time that can lead to Permanent Residencycheesy

I really need info/suggestions from as many of you as possible. You can refer me to those you know working in my field (recent graduates inclusive) if you don't have answers suited to my needs. My U.S (B1/B2) Visa expires mid next year and doesn't grant me working rights hence my focus on this.

Pardon me but I had to chip in the last sentence incase anyone has a broader or out of the box suggestion.

good advice
snowburn:

I dunno where to start from, cos the matter no be here smiley Congrats on the new job and the visa as well. Forget about your love for Nigeria (you no love Naija reach me wallahi smiley) There are lots of Job prospects here in Australia, especially O/G (i mean right now till say maybe end of 2016).
Searching online is good, it works but Australia too like agents and agencies, so if you come down here in Perth and have a chat with an Agency like Bechtel or Hays, you most likely get a job faster than someone applying to the companies directly. I say this from my own experience and general observation. You can send these agencies apps online but trust me, if you go over and meet them in their office, there's a difference. (Australia man know man strong pass Naija own ooo smiley na just say them dey do their own with class, with style, codedly)
I support your idea of securing an offer before travelling for some reasons; especially if the Naija offer you just got is in O/G preferably a MNC.
But if you choose to travel, head straight to Perth or Queensland cos the major O/G projects are in full swing now. Of course there's Darwin too, huge projects but i dont wanna go into that here.

Either way, whether trying from here or abroad, its achievable but there some factors common to both that will determine if and how fast you'll get an offer.

1. Permanent Residency grin i'm sure this is an easy guess. Australian employers (most especially in O/G) know that the locals come first before any other type of visa. Of course we believe in miracles so a company could take you and sponsor but what are the chances? undecided yeah those slim chances could be your portion, i dunno.

2. Qualification/ Experience: you may be surprised to hear this but in Oz, THE TRADES RULE. The truck drivers, electricians, offsiders, etc. they make big money(talk about 100k - 150k per annum just for an apprentice;depending on the company sha, think of how much you'll make as an experienced mechanical fitter, or crane operator, etc cheesy)These guys make big money even more than Professionals and the Trade Union is Strong (always there to protect their interests) and those roles are the easiest way to get in into the industry but you need to have Local licences, registrations, permits and qualifications. Most roles require just a Cert II, Cert III, maximum of Cert IV.
They dont care much about your Diploma,BSc, MSC...only for some (very few number) positions and of course considerable experience has to go with it. The easiest way to get in with this high qualifications is through graduate programs that come annually (fair enough, cos a tradie cant apply for that grin) Or better still man know man.
Recently, i think in June, WA passed a law that only PR and Citizens can procure the Maritime Card which you require to work offshore in Western Australian waters. I'm sure you know what that means.

In fact sometimes they threaten people from the east coast grin
If you dont have local experience, FIFO experience, the slimmer your chance gets, technically speaking.
If you can get an internship, that'd be fantastic.

There are some pros and cons( a lot of talking points) of being on ground or trying from abroad that time wont permit me to go into here.
Good luck.

Oboy how was the experience going the Malaysian route. Hope u didnt experience any drama on ur interchange from Malay to Oz Any flight delays from air-asia How will you rate their service?? Abeg play the cassette may boyz know wetin to expect when time don reach. holla

The experience is worth it. KLIA is a beautiful airport...far better than Goldcoast and Brisbane airport. My flight to Ethiopia from Lagos was delayed by 1hr. Though it didn't affect my next flight to KLIA; it only reduced my waiting time at the airport from 3hrs to 2hrs. Upon arrival at KLIA, I went straight to the immigration office and gave them my passport, the man requested for my connecting flight ticket to Australia and my Australia visa which I showed him before he cleared me.
I went straight to KLIA2 from there to check in with Airasia. I checked in at Airasia with no hassle.
Airasia service was ok, only that everyone's ticket comes with the meal he/she chose when booking the flight. There were people who were not served because they didn't include it on their ticket.
I left Nigeria 2:05pm Thursday and got to Australia 7:25am Saturday; no delay at the end

@cherries1, The answer to your question is Skye bank Mastercard.
Concerning the posibility of changing NAIRA TO AUD at Sydney airport, I don't know and I haven't heard of anyone that did so. You can try it, anyway.

gtb
I had a very bad experience with them.
I used them to pay my fees via my atm card, they charged me 172naira to an aussie dollar, when the intl rate for that day was 150 to a dollar.
is it a good idea therefore to come with a gtb card?
Cos I was thinking going for some other bank, you can imagine paying 200k over the expected amount on the day I paid my fees.

I understand you but I'm recommending Firstbank and GTB bank mastercard and Zenith too( BUT NOT WITH ANY HOW BANK MASTERCARD, I HAD A FRIEND THAT CAME WITH S********BANK CARD AND IT DIDNT WORK HERE) if you want to withdraw your money from Nigeria bank here because those bank's mastercard works perfectly well here. I don't have GTB acct anyway; I used Firstbank mastercard to withdraw all my money and deposited it into Commonwealth bank..and the ATM charge was just $2o3 per withdrawal.
Changing USD to AUD here doesn't make sense...I was charged arnd AUD12 for one fee like that at the airport and the exchange rate is ridiculous.

If I were you, I will hold like USD300 cash when leaving Nigeria and come here with my functional Firstbank or GTB Mastercard. It's cheaper that way--withdrawing with your mastercard here--than changing the USD to AUD.

juliana13139: the only time you get to be questioned that way is when you actually enter the country and then continue your journey.....EG instead of just making a transit you actually visit malaysia for a few days then move on the Australia...thats when they begin to question you...the truth is most of the airlines from naija except etihad will usually take you through thailand if your using egypt air, then etiopian air will tke you through singapore......the list goes on and on.even qatar...guess the buttom line is what you can afford esp if your bringing your family along you get to save enough.....plus it reduces the very long 13hrs of seating.
As long you meets the entry point requirements......
genuine visa to d the 3rd country, genuine transit visa issued by their embassy in your home country, yellow card(not 2005/2006 card), onward ticket to the 3rd country, you are good to go. Immigratn clearance is not a big deal if your documents are complete.
The rule is that: If you are transiting with the same airline, no immigration clearance is required. Many of the Asians(Indians, China, etc) in Aussie uses this route and I've gone through their forum too. Indian, China, Sri-lanka, Bangladesh, Pakistan passport holders are free to arrival without transit visa, such is called transit pass.
One more thing, Airasia are well known for connecting flight to the third country of destination which must be any of the following: Australia, New Zealand, U.S.A, China, Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan.

Well, not everybody is as rich as you are. Beside, saving $700-900 is economically wise.

what about luggage? did you have to pay extra or the transit flight accommodated your 23kg bag(i assume you will have 2)
Just like every other airline, if your baggage exceeds the allowance given, u pay for it. Airasia allows arnd 30kg free. When booking your flight you will see options for baggage... more baggage, more money, though the price is reasonably cheap.

All the information about transit visa, I got it on the Malaysia immigratn site. Also, airasia site has comprehensive info on it too. Some countries like India do not require transit visa prior to their arrival at Malaysia, such thing is called transit pass. Nigerai falls among the countries that requires 100% transit visa or any other visa prior to arrival at Malaysia.
Morealso, Airasia made it possible that you can check-in online (except baggages) prior to arrival.

Pls which airline is this o? Cos I'm quite knowledgable in the travel industry, and this fare sounds unreal. Even if it were one-way sef...

Yes, it sounds very unreal but it's very real.
Sometime ago, before the attack on nairaland, lawland or someone gave a hint on flying with airasia and tiger airways, so I made research on it and was able to succeed. This is what I did:
I searched for a nice flight combination between Ethiopia airline and airasia and booked a flight to KLIA(Kualar lumpur) from Lagos at N107.8k, and a connecting flight(airasia) to Australia(Goldcoast) at $276 (N45.3k).
I applied and obtain a transit visa at Malaysia embassy at Abuja after 2 working days( normal visa processing time is a week i.e 6 workinh days.) Below are what I submitted at the Malaysia embassy:
1. Form 47(Malaysia visa form)
2.My Australia student visa
3. Original and photocopy if International passport
4.Yellow card
5. My Ethiopia e-ticket and my AirAsia e-ticket.( My arrival to KLIA and departure had 4hrs interval)
6. N1k visa fee.

Now below are what I found about transiting via Thailand, Singapore, or Malaysia.
1.Most AirAsia flight from any other country do have stop over at KLIA, making it less cheaper. So, I booked a flight to KLIA directly instead of transiting via Thailand or Singapore.
2. Malaysia Transit visa allows you to stay a maximum of 120hrs at the KLIA; you are not permitted to leave the airport.
3. AirAsia used to have promo and during such promo you can get a flight to Australia less than $200; I booked my flight just two days after the promo had expired.

solid link brov, thanks a bunch for that.
along with not including bank statement and such, I won't have to submit all those financial documents right? All those pay slips and stuff?
plus since I will be sponsoring myself, will that be an issue?
Cos I don't see the relevance of sponsorship letter and affidavit if I will be paying myself.
Anyone gone through this and was self sponsored before?

Bro. I don't know the complexity of your own application. I've already told you that financial statements(which includes anything that has to do with finance or evidence of funds) is not among the supporting documents for svp application. I don't know what else you want to hear/know. I will advice you to download the form 157 and go through it very well. SVP and Assessment level 1 dznt require you to provide evidence of funds. You are only required to declare you have sufficient fund to take care of your stay in OZ by checking the d small box.

nicholls2013: hello house, please can anyone help me with cheap tuition universities or TAFE programme for HSE courses and does a person have to pay full tuition before Visa can be granted and what are the documents required to apply for a visa. Thanks

To find cheap tuition University and TAFE program, you'll to do it yourself by visiting the Australia schools websites and compare their tuition fees for your program. U may not be required to pay full tuition fee before your visa can be granted. Some schools demands you accepts your admission offer by making a deposit tuition fee payment, without paying such you can't get your eCoE(electronic confirmation of Enrolment) which is among the documents you have to provide when applying for your visa. I can however try to get contact info for shared apartments at least for you to stay for a while and then u can be on the lookout for another if you dont like it. Meanwhile you can also browse, google and check up on accomodation close to where you are going to in sydney. You can check for backpackers accomodation. I think its relatively cheaper than other forms of accommodation.

Thanks for your concern.

Is it compulsory to deposits tuition fee before applying for visa?

YES, without making a tuition fee deposit you won't be granted your CoE (confirmation of enrolment), and you can never get your student visa without your CoE.
