NELBREN:
Please fellow nairalanders,I was shortlisted for the next phase of UAC selection process but have a challenge. It is required that GS candidates should nt be more than 30yrs by Dec but I will be 30yrs 6months by Dec. What should I do: overlook it and go 4 the interview or contact them 4 what to do? I have other requirements but this. I wll be going from PH and I would not want 2 waste my hard-earned money on T. fare. Thank u for ur candid advice.
Nothing is impossible. My candid opinion is, you may not be qualified, but don't disqualify yourself before you are disqualified. If you think you want the job, go for it!

Lol @bolded. The wisdom will also be in censoring what you say. From the little experience I've gotten through interviews, they pick on what you say to throw questions at you.

I've been trying to fashion my response to the position applied for. That's why I wanted to find out if the codes and category we wrote for is what we're to be interviewed under.

If that's the case, I'm toast!

#Almost
It's likely we will be interviewed based on codes. @ censoring, that's why I pointed out you can dictate the flow of the interview with your answer.

I'm glad we are keeping the thread going, I welcome additional constrictive criticisms.
Jobs/VacanciesRe: UAC Management Trainee 2014 Applicants Lets Meet Here by Zerop: 4:15pm On Nov 09, 2014

^^ That's great, if actually that's what they intend to hear.
I feel you divulged too much information while trying to answer the question. Your answer seems to be more elaborate. I was having this believe that the correct response would be a brief intro; then something like a mission statement (prime desire statement); sort of a brief and concise paragraph that would summarize you and your potentials. Or am I wrong?

Imagine if the next question would have been Tell us about yourself; then you'd have said all that was needed to be said while answering the first question.
Can we meet you and tell us about yourself are the same question. It's always advisable not to give to long answers and scanty answers. It's even best sometimes to dictate the progress of the interview (but not in an arrogant manner).

The length of your answer will depend on your person and the atmosphere... Wisdom is also about knowing when to shut up!

May we meet you?

The dreaded first interview question! Been trying to compose a paragraph in response to this but it still sounds shallow after many trials. Any ideas from the house?

Also, are we going to be interviewed based on the codes we wrote for (specialist)? I don't know jack about the category they placed me! Didn't know how I managed to pass that exam self.

Any ideas? Anyone?
There are various possible ways to go about it. This is one;

Thank you. My name is Mikel Obi (although they should know this, it's not a bad idea to remind them). I hold a first degree in ABC and a masters degree in xyz from the university of London and university of Manchester respectively.

I've got 80 years experience working as a data analyst. I began my career with Microsoft shortly my first degree... Among others, I was responsible for managing the company's data bas. This position enhanced my analytical, time management and analytical skills, to mention a few. However, my thirst for knowledge and natural inclination towards self development informed my decision to complete a masters degree.

During my masters, I actively kept abreast with industry wide trends through my volunteering experience with SAP.... blablabla.

Having completed my studies, I find this position an excellent springboard for my career particularly given my educatio, proven skills, and prior work experience.

This may set the ball rolling. The central theme is to avoid taking about personal life; girlfriend, dog, parents except asked or absolutely necessary. In short, keep it work related and strongly tied to the job requirements you're applying for... I hope this helps.
