Ghana International have just announced the addition of Abuja to their network. Furthermore, they've announced a roundtrip fare from London (via Accra) for 249 pounds !! (promotion thing). They will be flying this connection twice weekly. www.fly-ghana.com (don't bother to find this news on their site as the news is too new). Give them a call and plz tell me what happens, |
Hello all, Looks like Nigeria will finally have a befitting domestic air terminal in Lagos. I hope it wil have aviobridges? |
I conquer with everything you said! But I won't take back my stance, a well organized Abuja 2014 is potentially a money spinner and a good job generator for the youths! Remember 2014 is 8 years from now, securing hosting rights is not a bad idea, with a bit of optimism its not hard to imagine a stable political situation and the ongoing reforms continuing to yield results, albeit slowly! |
Just clarifying my vision for Abuja 2014: Role of govt.: Provision of utilities, steady power, good roads, and a stable regulatory environment, etc. Role of private sector: financing new sport venues, organization + PR of entire event, revenues from advertisement and sponsorshop opportunities. Abuj Airport is being concessioned as we debate this, with the bid winner surely announcing expansion projects, so a proactive private sector is already in motion, The problem of course is with implementation, and I honestly think Nigeria is better positioned + governed now than it was in 03 and certainly '99. |
Nigeria '99: A National joke + disgrace. BADLY ORGANIZED. CORRUPTION MAGNET. Nigeria '03: Wrong people in charge, and lots of stealing. But that was the past. Nigeria today has EFCC and a stronger PRIVATE sector. Let the privae sector finance + organize Abuja 2014. This is the way it should be. Strong companies like NB, MTN, etc. surely have got everything to gain from a well-designed and executed Abuja 2014. But rest assured, sports is the best positive image maker out there, if properly organized of course. |
Well, it's simple, In order to meet Abuja 2014 objectives, FCT and FGN would have to ensure all of these services are up to world standards at least for the city of Abuja. So the country would hit two birds with one stone, a branded exercise if you will, I can't be convinced a successful Abuja 2014 is bad for Nigeria's image! of Africa for that matter, |
Nigeria wants to host the Commonwealth games for the same reason Barcelona wanted the olympics in 1992. Stimulated economy, image laundering, and an incentive to boost Abuja's hotel and tourism business, in addition to expanding its sports facilities! Who cares what the games stood for in the past? Business is business, but Nigeria, it seems, still can't do business! |
Hello all, Abuja's bid was announced last year, and much to our amazement an old general in the person of Yakubu Gowon was appointed as bid leader (Will Nigeria ever get over its old guard?). Well over a year has passed by, and while the Buhari committee sleeps on, both Halifax and Glasgow have finalized presentations and mobilised the saviest of people to organize their submissions. I do hope Gowon & Co. are preparing something because the clock is ticking towards April 2007 winner announcement. Abuja 2014 campaign is absolutely nowhere to be seen apart from a FCT press release dated Sept. 2005! -- |
Revolution, Thanks for your offer! The domain was registered, I'm waiting for the official confirmation, will then take care of hosting. |
Been reading the news this morning. It is pittiful to see Victor Attah, a seasoned failure, to present his official presidential aspiration letter to the PDP party while Donald Duke watches on! Mr. Duke, if you're reading this, please do not miss your chance to vocalize and PUSH for the best of Nigeria! |
Constantin, Many thanks for your initiative. Indeed I've keeping a closer look at this potential African dragon! Nigeria ought to learn from Angola about harnessing tourism potentials and keeping cities clean, orderly, and well landscaped! Luanda has many colonial buildings in the beaux-arts and other styles, which surely will be money spinners once they're restored, and I'm confident they will be one day. I also dream of the day Lagos restores and established guidelines for the preservation of its countless colonial buildings around Lagos and Ikoyi islands, |
Donald Duke has my deepest admiration. |
May I add that this photo was taken at my request! My friend "soups" took it while flying Virgin Nigeria from London to Accra via Lagos, |
Thanks, but this photo is quite old, taken about a year ago. I already had it saved. Other leads needed ![]() |
Hi Mongue, Thanks for posting those pics. Finally! The first ever photos of this huge project to be posted on the Net for the public to see, and evaluate! These photos were taken roughly a month ago, I wonder if you have more pics, I would love to see more pics of the front facade of the terminal and possibly the architectural perspective on the construction signboard, Thanks a lot, this made my day, since the other thread I posted (same topic) was effectively ignored by everyone! Still the public has little information still on this project. The promoters of the project, Stabilini Visinoni and Bi-Courtney Consortium proudly claim that the building will beat Miami Airport. We dare ask, how exactly will they do that? What qualities and features will the terminal have, but is lacking at Miami? What about specifications. For instance, how many gates (airbridges) will it have, the passenger capacity (millions of passenger/annum), the number of floors, etc. I think that with Nigeria trying to promote tourism and foreign direct investment, this building will be strategic in that if it was of the first impressions/images and professionalism+efficiency is what Nigeria needs to project at the moment, Another concern is it size because very soon Nigeria will boast ARIK Air and NICON Airways, among others, who will surely use this facility. Heck, Virgin Nigeria might move their domestic operations there should the international terminal prove too congested, since they are expanding rapidly. The current domestic "shack" is truly a disgrace to the country and I will be glad to see it flattened soon! Guys let us keep this thread active, and discuss exciting developments in LAGOS Domestic Airport project. |
Hello everyone, The new Lagos Airport Domestic Terminal & Hotel(Terminal 2) which is being built (and operated) on BOT basis by Stabilini Visinoni seems to be shrouded in secrecy, despite being about a few months to completion. It is very ironic because this will be a strategic building with the public as its main stakeholder. There are almost no pics of it online, please could someone help me source some recent shots of the construction site and/or architectural impressions. The last specifications known to have circulated on the web are from 2003 which mentioned "a large arrival/dep hall, shopping facilities, 8 aviobridges, and 8 remote parking stands (total of 16 only?!?!). This could hardly meet current demand let alone demand in 2010. Again if anyone has got a clue what/s going (besides newspaper articles) on (preferably with a pictorial backing!) I'd appreciate a link please, Thanks, zexyworm |
