Do not travel to Calabar by road dude, that's more dangerous.

You always have the option of flying AERO Contractors (who use nice 737-300s).

Virgin Nigeria and Arik Air are also due to commence Calabar ops, with modern planes.

Adieu ADC, rest well :S

OBONG,

You are you calling liar? You could have simply asked for my source, rather than spilling garbage from your mouth.

I reiterate: ADC Airlines was involved in 5 seperate crashes, 3 of which were fatal. The 2 non-fatal crashes ended up in total loss of the both aircraft, and in both cases the location was Monrovia, Liberia.

Here is confirmation source:

http://aviation-safety.net/database/operator/airline.php?var=6891

Enjoy the reading. I realize that you are not a pilot or aviator but take it from me, ADC Airlines pilots leave much to be desired. In all 5 crashes poor airmanship was shown leading to said disasters. No disrespect to the latest dead pilot, we shall wait and see the final investigation report (that's IF Nigeria publishes it, which is highly unlikely considering both Bellview and Sosoliso reports are hidden in some closet).
TravelRe: What Do You Think Can Be Done To Reduce Air Crashes by zexyworm: 7:52am On Nov 01, 2006
1- Granting the NCAA complete autonomy to regulate safety oversight (free from the dictate of the likes of Borishade, etc.). This is now proposed as a bill to be passed into law, but the issue is dragging feet at the senate.

2- Ensuring that all airlines and pilots which do not meet safety requirements are stripped of their license.

3- Empowering the NCAT in Zaria with a REAL budget and facilities to produce well-trained pilots for tomorrow. Nigeria is currently bragging about $40bn in foreign reserves while people are dying in hundreds due to inadequate aviation/airport facilities.

4- Allocate enough budget to upgrade all airports and runways throughout the country.

5- Remove all incompetent people from aviation parastatals.

6- Privatize FAAN, NCAA, NMET, and all other agencies to grant those additional autonomy.

7- Perform all the above through consultation with a recognized international aviation agency, and granting such agency REAL powers to instil change, away from petty politics.

If the above is not implemented speedily, I fear that additional fatal crashes WILL occur very soon.
TravelRe: ADC Plane Crash In Abuja by zexyworm: 8:50pm On Oct 31, 2006
Obong, here below is the info regarding the 1998 crash of ADC:

On 29 July 1997 a BAC One-Eleven 203AE landing at Calabar overshot the runway and an engine caught fire. There was one fatality.

The two other fatal crashes happened in 1996 (Lagos) where 145 people perished, and obviously the recent one claiming 96 lives.

ADC also crashed its both DC-9-30s in Monrovia where the crew was attempting a landing during a torrential rains in both scenarios. Luckily nobody there died.

All in all ADC Airlines PLC crashed 5 aircraft (1994,1995,1996,1997,2006).

There's no way in the world ADC will survive this time. The show is over!

Borishade is a coward, for pissing on the body of a defenseless dead man. His failed aviation reforms killed more people than ever.

Obasanjo is a coward for shying away from appointing competent people to the right portfolio.

Due to the above, both these people should either resign honoroubly and avoid further humiliation.
TravelRe: ADC Plane Crash In Abuja by zexyworm: 9:08am On Oct 31, 2006
it's not a pitty that ADC has been shut down.

The "Aviation Development Company" (ironic?) has managed to end the lives of over 250 people in 3 seperate crashes since 1996.  It has struggled to stay afloat and was seriously undercapitalized before being shut.  Its recent "public offering" followed 2 years of moderate profit-making for its shareholders, however a good account book goes hand-in-hand with sound technical operations, training,  and safety record, which ADC clearly lacked prior to this crash.

Nigerians should learn that the price of a ticket alone should not be the only influencing factor when chosing your airline on a domestic or regional route.  Look for a professional, internationally-backed and capitalized airline.  A professional airline can operate used aircraft upto 30 years of age and it can be totally safe so long as it is maintained AND flown by professional pilots who fly by the book.

Airlines to patronize:

Virgin Nigeria       (thumbs up to their pilot in Abuja who was patient enough to wait for the weather to subside).
Aero Contractors  (wonderful crew and some brand new planes (DASH-8-300) as well as B737-300s).
Arik Air                  (for getting new planes and sponsoring cadets at Zaria NCAT)
Overland Airways  (small modern planes).

Airlines to avoid at all cost:

Chanchangi
EAS/Nicon
Sosoliso
DASAB
Fresh Air
Spaceworld
, And all other briefcase airlines owned by chiefs who just dont get it: AN AIRLINE IS CAPITAL INTENSIVE.

Airlines you fly at your own risk:

Bellview Airlines
TravelRe: Ncaa Fines Six Airlines N11.55m Over Safety Violation by zexyworm: 2:25pm On Oct 08, 2006
The best airlines by far are Aero and Virgin Nigeria.
Starting Oct. 17th, Arik Air will become operational, with a brand-new fleet of CRJ-900s.
ADC and Bellview are not bad, however these two are still considered "tokunbo" carriers.

@Mr. DaslEek and All Other Nigerian Escapee,

What exactly are you looking for in Dubai or South Africahuhhuhhuh? Why can't you settle down here and pursue your career in this God blessed nation.I guess you are looking for greener pastures elsewhere, but remember that "a lizard in Nigeria will not become aligator neither will a goat here in Nigeria suddenly become a cow overthere".So think deep and sow in this land now. There is no place like home, !!!!!Stop listening to wrong counsel. They won't tell you the bad side of the place because they want more people to join them in their hide n seek life overthere.Let God show you the way!!!!!
Although I agree with you in heart (about the need to build one's country) I must disagree on the "hide and seek" life that immigrants allegedly seek. The education system in Nigeria is in distress. Therefore, it is not such a bad idea to acquire knowledge and expertise in better universities and return home eventually to serve the homeland. I also remind you that a great deal of the best Chinese brains schooled in America (with the likes of I.M.Pei, etc.) and then returned home to participate in their dragon-economy soon to become word super power. The world is a little village, Nigerians should draw on the positive forces of the world rather remain comatose in a cocoon.

As for God showing us the way, can't we discuss anything but religion on this forum? Why is it that Nigerians fall back on cliche statements all the time, when we can clearly separate facts and draft a clear path for the country?

Sure there are plenty of opportunities for part-time work.

The more skills, languages, and flexibility you have the better. You could work at call centers, hotels, or others, The sky is the limit.
Dubai is a jungle, so I would advise you to visit first and see for yourself.

what do you want to study? the local universities are not as good as the ones in Europe and N/America but they seem to be catching up (especially American University of Dubai) etc. There is a good dentist program at Sharjah University.
Living in Dubai can be sweet if you earn enough money to survive+save. I would say the biggest challenge is accomodation, it is the most expensive side. For the rest (food, gas, etc.) you can manage. A new public transport network including rail, monorail, and metro is being built and will be commissioned around 2009.
Good luck.
TravelRe: Tourism In Nigeria by zexyworm: 12:23pm On Sep 29, 2006
Nigeria offers all of the following:

1- Incredible, picturesque natural beauties especially around South-Eastern and central Nigeria. The landscapes includes rain forest, savanahs, plateaus, and the Saharah desert.
2- 250 distinct ethnic groups and a treasure of cultural activities (including festivals, carnivals(Abuja Carnival), and other ritual sport events such as Argungu Fishing Festival, etc.).
3- A substantial amount of unspoilt beach fronts especially East of Lagos and around Cross River and Akwa Ibom areas.
4- Indigenous architecture as exemplified by the Nigerian Museum of Traditional Architecture in Jos.

Nigeria has countless tourism potentials however there is a lack (today) of standard low/medium budget hotels and reliable tour operators.

This is bound to change as more hotels enter the market and as certain states kick-start their tourism industires. In Cross River the Tinapa Resort will come online next year. Another resort is planned for Fun Ruwa near Abuja, among others,

I would say the biggest obstacle to tourism as a revenue-generator and poverty reducer is Nigerians themselves. Their current cynical and skeptical attitude is a problem. The government is aiming to promote awareness through formal national programs (the inffective NTDC) but i think it will be best to empower grass-roots groups: Creaton of arts and crafts schools, theaters schools, and training training and more training for the future tour guides.

With visionary leaders like Governor Donald Duke in power come 2007, we can expect a tourism renaissance in Nigeria, and in the process, far less poverty.

Constantin,
Thanks for sharing these nice images / press releases (i've already seen them though!).

The project is very ambitious, there's no question about.  I share your disgust with how pessmistic, cynical, and unmotivated Nigerians are today.   It's as if they lack the intention to become worthy of international status - it's their country, yet (and partially understandable) their main concern is putting food on the table.

The good news: This project will be privately financed.  Therefore, the person above who commented "we dont want to be deceived" should review the project brief and have a little faith in his country before spreading hopelessness and depsair.

Projects like this should be encouraged.  It will help reduce Nigeria's dependence on its oil resources and diversify the economy towards service-industries, for a change.

Next time I'm in Abuja i'll visit the site and post photos if construction began (will be there somewhere mid 2007).

TravelPort Harcourt Airport (phc) Closed Until December! by zexyworm(op): 4:39pm On Aug 18, 2006
LAGOS (Reuters) - Nigeria will shut its main international airport in the oil producing Niger Delta at Port Harcourt for at least four months' repairs later on Friday, the aviation agency said.

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority said the emergency shutdown was required to rehabilitate the runway and build a fence around the facility.

"The airport is being closed down for safety reasons , We hope that the rehabilitation work will be completed and the airport reopened in December," a spokesman said.

"They have been directed to close it down at sunset today."

Port Harcourt is the largest city in the delta, and several Western oil companies including Royal Dutch Shell have large offices there.

Lufthansa and Air France fly there direct from Europe.

Safety standards at Nigerian airports have come under close scrutiny since President Olusegun Obasanjo ordered urgent reforms in December after two plane crashes that killed more than 200 people last year.

One of the crashes on December 10 was at the Port Harcourt airport where 106 passengers, many of them school children, were killed. Some commentators said that lives could have been saved if the fire trucks at the airport had had access to water.

The disaster came seven weeks after another airplane crashed near Lagos, killing 117 people.

In July last year, an Air France plane with 196 passengers on board ploughed into a herd of cattle on the runway. No humans were killed, but authorities blamed the accident on the lack of a perimeter fence.

The runway lighting and firefighting facilities at the airport will also be overhauled during the shutdown, the spokesman said.

The NCAA said all domestic flights to Port Harcourt will be diverted either to the smaller delta city of Warri, the southeastern city of Owerri or to Calabar in the southeastern corner of the country.

International flights will be diverted to Nigeria's two main airports in the commercial hub of Lagos and the inland capital Abuja, the aviation agency said

You say Yassir Arafat was born in Cairo. That is disuputed, his own family and even himself claim he was born in Jerusalem.

On the other hand, the 1st prime minister of Israel and essentially its creator, is David Ben Gurion, who was born in Poland!
To top it all, he even lived in New York for a while, before going on his Zionist excursions in Palestine.

This should of course come as no surprise. 80% of Israelis today were either born OUTSIDE "Israel" or the descendents of people born outside "Israel".

Guess who is the native? Palestinians, Palestinian Arabs, yes.

So go ahead and try to smear Palestinians, others will not buy it.

Nothing new in your article my dear. It's only Zionist propaganda. You have the audacity to deny my existence as a Palestinian Arab. That strategy won't work, because what you call us is irrelevent, the truth is, the Jewish terror gangs like Irgun and Hagana systematically drove the Arab population out through terror. Just search "King David Hotel" bombing on google.

Furthermore, I spotted your nonsense about the Palestinian flag. The Palestinian flag, you should know, was the first EVER Arab flag and it symbolized the Arab revolution against colonial powers in the 1920s. Check your facts, Mr.

I also dare you to pull off your mask and identify your own nationality.

How about the British coming back to push Yorubas into Benin, then claim Ile-Ife land as theirs, since Beninois people can't control a bunch of people like Nigerians. Would that make sense?

Palestinians are NOT a herd of sheep. Palestinians are human beings, with economic, historical, and sentimental attachment to their ancestral homeland.

We are waiting to reclaim our land, which belongs to us. We have lived on it, harvested, and established institutions on it, for thousands of years, until those Zionists immigrated from Europe on ships through Haifa.

The Jews settled the land and drove the Arabs out through terror. This happened in 1948 and 1967.

Hello all,

With the sad and unfortunate death of 3 Nigerian citizens in Lebanon, I thought the following letter to CNN is relevent:
--------------

I have been following your coverage of the Israeli attack on Lebanon through your site, and I am appalled to see the lack of information provided to your audience on the ACTUAL escalation of events that has truly led to this inconceivably unjust and criminal military onslaught onto Lebanon and its citizens by the terrorist government of Israel.

Lebanon and the Lebanese population will suffer for months, if not years, to recover from this heinous offensive on their territory and their sovereignty, all in the name of Israel's self-defense. Without justifying the kidnappings themselves, it must be pointed out that Israel's existence and well being have not come under any real threat as a result of the kidnappings, or as a result of any other event in recent history for that
matter. How much self-defending does Israel really need to do with the superpower of the day standing so closely behind, disbursing billions, deploying masses of weapons, invading countries opposed to Israel's existence and biting ferociously at any reproachful finger that may be pointed in Israel's direction?

The majority of articles published on your site instigate that the Israeli hostilities against Lebanon are retaliation to Hezbollah kidnapping two Israeli soldiers, echoing President Bush's sentiment that the kidnappings give Israel the 'right to defend itself'. Has not one author in your team, nor any of your editors, nor yourself, thought it relevant to
mention the months and years of Israeli kidnappings of Palestinian and Lebanese
civilians, officials and public figures that have gone without retribution? What about the hundreds, nay thousands of Lebanese, Palestinians and Syrians rotting away in Israeli prisons without charge or trial for years on end?

And what of the tens of Palestinians assassinated daily in the Palestinian territories for 'alleged' crimes against Israel, which only Israel has made claim to but has never substantiated in front of an international court?

What of the Palestinian's rights to self defend or retaliate when their homes, schools, hospitals and livelihoods are destroyed, and their fathers, sons, brothers, mothers and sisters are murdered?

What has happened to the rule of law? Or has Bush also relieved Israel of adhering to international laws on occupation, war and human rights? Once in violation of these laws, and Israel IS without a doubt in violation, does that not constitute it a criminal and terrorist state? Do international laws apply to all the other governments except that of Israel? Do the US and Israel alone decide which governments are terrorist and which aren't?

You have conveniently chosen not to pose such questions nor seek their answers, though their relevance to the coverage of the current crisis is imperative. Any good piece of reporting would present the reader with all the facts and allow them to reach their own conclusions. You have consciously and unforgivably colluded to misinform your readers as to the real causes behind the current (and continuing) Middle East crisis, and you have failed to depict Israel's contribution to the disastrous events happening in the region. Your news department has shown cowardice in its decision
to not criticize, let alone condemn, Israel's disproportionate and murderous military actions in Lebanon.

How can such a show of an unbalanced and exaggerated response of force to the kidnappings be deemed as self-defense?

How should Lebanon and the Palestinian Authority respond to hundreds already kidnapped by Israel? What would be in your opinion a proportional response to those crimes? By your apparent standards, the answer to such a question would certainly be terrifying.

You have proven to be a disappointment to your readers, both to those who are unaware of the history of this conflict, and as a result of your coverage, have been led to reach the wrong conclusions, and to those readers who are aware of the history of the conflict and have been let-down by the blatant bias in your reporting and the un-explicable misinformation you have provided in favor of the Israeli government.

I will spare no effort on my part to ensure that this opinion of your news agency is circulated to friends, associates and contacts all over the globe, and to local newspapers worldwide, so that as many people as possible may be propelled to question your credibility as a news agency, and so that as many people as possible may be compelled to look elsewhere for their source of international news.

If you believe that's their aim, then your naivity is enourmous. Just listening to the rethoic of these organisations shows you what their ultimate aim is. Please stop buying into propaganda and expand your mind. Israel has been out of lebanon for the past 6+ years and not once, I repeat, not once has Hezbolla stopped firing rockets randomly into Israel.

Such is the situation that Israeli gunners are forced to fire artillery DAILY into no-mans land on the border to prevent both Hamas and hezbolla from using those strips of land to fire rockets. This is why Israel continually occupies land in order to create a buffer zone. When they withdraw, in come the rockets. What the hell are they supposed to do? Live underground?

Again and again, Israeli security intercepts suicide bombers attempting to enter and commit murder in Israel. And from time to time one or two get through to kill and maim. And now they have invaded Israel itself to kidnap Israelis in order to black mail the Israeli Government.  I'm 100% in support the actions israel is taking.
1- Israel never vacated the Sheba Farms, the most fertile and agricultural zone in Southern Lebanon.  Get your facts right.

2- You know it's a pitty to see people getting their news from CNN.
ABC, NBC, CNN, CBC and most  prominent American newspapers are mouthpieces for American Jewish elements.
For more infor refer to this site (NOT a hate site, just a scholarly research)
http://www.jewwatch.com/jew-controlledpress-folder.html

3-The Palestinian cause is a secular one.  Christian Palestinians were driven out of their land in 1948, along with Muslim communities, into refugee camps in the West Bank, Gaza, and neighboring countries.
One of the most respected Palestinian scholars is Hanan Ashrawi, who is a christian lady.

4- Arabs (christians and muslims) are happy to coexist with Israelis in the middle east so long as Israel ceases to grab land and dictate its own terms over the territory.  Negotiations is the only solution, as opposed to cowboy-style unilateralism. The Arabs repeatedly offered the land-for-peace initiative, but it seems Israel decided it was more lucrative to use its American-backed military might to impose its own vision for the region.

Since you started by calling me a moronic terrorist, I can proceed to ask you, are you MOSSAD or an Israeli spy in Nigeria?

Perhaps a Nigerian neo-con, a-la- George Bush!

Those people you call terrorists want Israel to fall back on its 1967 lines UNCONDITIONALLY and stop its territorial expansion / settlement drive ONCE AND FOR ALL.

Observing the escalation, it is very obvious that Israel's real motives in Lebanon is not to get back its soldiers but:

1- Settle the score through revenge, following Israel's expulsion from Lebanon by Hezbollah.
2- The forced implementation of UN resolution 1559, calling for disarming Hizbollah, one of the final Zionism resistance movements (along with HAMAS in Palestine).
3- Ruin and destroy the Lebanese infrastructure, collective punishment of 3.5 million innocent Lebanese people.

On another note, I would stop the verbal accuse if I were you.

I disagree. It is Israel who keeps tormenting Palestinians and Arabs through occupation and subjugation.

Oh man, have you seen the living conditions of Arabs in palestine/israel? compared with the israelis, they live in utter poverty because of israeli restrictions of movement and other racist attitudes. It's no wonder those Palestinians are desperate enough to blow themselves up!

I think all of this is due to the American Empire alliance with that shitty little country israel, threatening to bring about a major East / West "clash" very soon.
