In my opinion, this type of political protest is counterproductive and does little to advance our democracy. The people that wanted to continue Slavery where in the South of the US in states such as Alabama,.Mississippi, South Carolina etc. At that timez some were Democrats. When they wanted to end Slavery most of the people that opposed it were from those states, that's why the civil war was between the south and the North. Some.of those people were democrats at that time. A lot of the people that promoted segregation were also democrats at that time.
But one thing is constant, the people that promoted Slavery and segregation are most people in the south from places like Alabama, Mississippi, Arkansas, south Carolina and the likes. They are also the most religious of the US population. They are even called the Bible belt of America till today.
The North, such as Massachusetts, NY, Delaware, New Jersey and the likes always opposed Slavery and that's why a lot of slaves ran away to the north.
The poorest parts of America til today are still the same Bible belt region and it's mostly dominated by Republicans.
Today in the US with the exception of Texas, the richest states, the most educated are liberal democratic states.
And Texas is about to turn Democrat very soon.
