*3. LEKKI DEEP SEA PORT*
The Port at Lekki is the new seaport of Lagos in Nigeria with construction to commence in 2015 and be completed by 2018. It will then be the largest seaport of Nigeria. When in service, the Port at Lekki will be able to handle around 6 million TEUs (Twenty-foot Equivalent Unit) of containers, together with a significant volume of liquid and dry bulk cargoes.The port is planned to be developed in phases to meet the growing demand. In phase one, which is expected to be operational by 2018, the port will have three container berths equipped to handle more than 1.8 million TEUs, one berth for dry bulk and two berths for liquid cargo. The port is financed by private investors and a consortium of banks who have funded the project with $1.5 billion so far.

The Managing Director of Nigerian Ports Authority has said that the Lekki Deep Seaport project is an example of the Public Private Partnership success story that will transform Nigeria economy into global recognition. The project has been described as a game changer and a catalyst to the Nation’s economy in view of the number of businesses that the port will attract when fully operational

*4. DANGOTE $9 BILLION REFINERY AND PETROCHEMICAL INDUSTRY*
Dangote is currently establishing a 500,000 barrels per day capacity refinery which would start operations in Nigeria by 2017.
The new refinery, which is worth $9bn, is to be situated in the Lagos area close to the Lekki Free Zone
In February 2014, Governor Fasola and Nigerian billionaire Aliko Dangote met with the Ibeju-Lekki Chiefs in respect of this massive project.
What Governor fashola and Alhaji Dangote said:
“Lekki Free Trade Zone is beginning to take shape. The Master Plan is being realized, investors are trouping in. Tank farms and major refineries are springing up to service the demands of the country and make room for export. The refineries create a major selling point and release of the opportunities that lie ahead in this zone, create opportunities for the local people and the potentials for Lagos and the Nigerian economy” said Fasola
“Looking at what the Governor has done by bringing this here I can assure you that this is going to be the biggest free trade zone in the African Continent and I know that the people will begin to show their appreciation. For instance, there is no way we can put down over $9 billion of our money here without making sure that the zone is going to work” said Aliko Dangote.

Alhaji Aliko Dangote had earlier said the communities stand to benefit enormously as over 8,000 engineers and numerous workers would be trained while jobs would be created for youths of the communities.

*5.) LEKKI INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT*

The Lekki-epe international airport which is located about 10km from Lekki Free Trade Zone and it’s expected to gulp NGN71.64bn in its first phase and it is expected to cater for Airbus A380, which experts said makes it a code F compliant airport. It is expected to begin operations with initial capacity of 2million passengers per annum and exceeding 5million by 2015
The Lagos State Government is to spend N102 billion ($ 650 million) on the construction of the Lekki International Airport which was expected to commence operation in May 2012. The Governor howver spoke with strong optimism that in spite of the set backs, preparations and negotiations are under way fro the realisation of the project.

The completion of Dangote Refinery in 2019 will mark another milestone in the Nigerian oil and gas industry as the $11 billion refinery hold the prospect of stopping of refined petroleum products by Nigeria.


The Dangote Refinery will produce 650,000 barrels per day of refined petroleum products to meet all the country’s refined petroleum products needs as well as export to other countries. Nigeria spent N2.59 trillion to import refined petroleum products in 2016, according to the Nigeria Bureau of Statistics. founder of Dangote Group of Companies and the richest man in Africa. Dangote, the promoter, said that the refinery projects were primarily meant to diversify the resource base of Nigeria. “This is the biggest industrial site anywhere in the world from the fertiliser, petrochemical and refinery plants. Some feel that saving money in the bank is a good strategy to building wealth. Though, it is very good to save, it is not a good wealth building strategy. The gains of real estate investment far outweigh that of saving in the bank for the following reasons:

1. *Currency always diminish in value while real estate appreciates:*

The purchasing power of money continually diminishes. The things One million naira could buy five years ago are not the same things it can buy today. However, real estate always appreciates. If you buy a plot of land in a good location, take effective possession and perfect necessary
documentation today, in five years’ time, you can sell it for up to 10× or more of the price you bought it.

2. *Return on savings is infinitesimal while returns on real estate investments are huge:*

When you save your money in the bank or do a fixed deposit, your returns on investment are usually single digit per annum. Conversely, based on the rate of development in the area you purchase your landed property or building, the return on investment are often huge. If you buy a house for example and let it out to tenants, between a decade to two, you will have recovered your investment and you will continue to make profit for the rest of your life.

3. *Your money in the bank simply makes the banker richer while your money in real estate makes you richer:*

If you save money in the bank, the money will be used by the bank to give
out loans and you will be paid an interest. The difference between the interest given by the customer who loans your money and the amount given to you is taken by the bank. Thus making the banker richer. On the other hand, when you invest in real estate, the difference between the price you bought the property and the price you are selling it is taken completely by you.
Thus making you richer.

4. *Expenses always arise to deplete your savings but your property is always there appreciating in value:*

When you have money saved in the bank, no matter how disciplined you are,
there will always be expenses that will arise to deplete the savings. When
you invest such funds into real estate, your cash is tied into an
investment that will be appreciating in value no matter how lose you are
with the remaining cash in your possession.

5. *None of the rich ascribe their success in gathering wealth to saving but most of them have impressive property portfolios (more than 90% of them):*

Of all the wealthy individuals in the world, I do not know of anyone whose wealth strategy was saving in the bank. However, a cursory look at the wealthiest individuals in the world, in Africa and even in Nigeria show that property investment is the preferred wealth building option.
