I will encourage everyone building in Lagos state to do proper documentation before embarking on such project. It is your responsibility to do things right. Government can stop you at any stage. Unfortunately, demolition seems to garner more sympathy from the public.
If the government relax on these regulations, Lagos will be littered with many nonsense structures and this will have environmental consequences. Imagine people criticizing the government for demolishing shanties and buildings built along the waterways. Same people criticizing the govt for not preventing floods.
It’s simple, if you can’t do it right in Lagos state, don’t do it at all.

They emphasized on Ibeju lekki and not the main lekki. Any house with governor's consent or C of O is save and government would compensate you if demolished advertently.

Every day government bringing new formats for for land acquisition.Check the procedure for buying land 5 , 10 years ago, you will discover that they are far cry from what this commissioner is having is believe.Then the rules were quite straight to the point.Those who will follow these steps today to acquire landed property, tomorrow another commissioner or governor will come and say those land are illegally acquired, and he will set his own rules.

Thank you for saying it the way it is. Almost all developers will go and bribe some bad civil servants and they will continue constructing the building forgetting that the records with the government is still intact.
Imagine someone getting approval for 1 storey building but built 3-4 storey building on that same land. And if the government show up, they will rush to social media that the government hate them.
I don't do social media sentiment because I know what developers and civil servants do. I know one that don't have papers at all like he has no documents but he is selling lands in the area in Abuja.

And i asking, how are buildings being built without approvals?

It is simple. Most developers wants to get their papers fast and they pay to corrupt civil servants who issue them fake documents.

I don't believe anyone can build a house in Lagos without approval from government.
In fact,officials move around Lagos to inspect and stop building constructions that are not approved by the government.
This is a land grabbing move b the government.





They did.Government said the approvals were Fake or governor didn't sign it.
they move around to stop building wrong structures that as could collapse anytime not to check for your approval

Let's guard against stupidity and wickedness.

Be sniffing around for people's property to destroy while other countries are progressing.

Later you'll start crying of low GDP, naira devaluation.
We have selfish people, who think of people's property as different from nation's wealth.

The only nation's wealth they know is oil money and taxes which they loot with impunity.

For any structure you destroy without considering other better options, you're taking the nation backward.

But in this country, just having different opinion with the one holding power at the moment will bring your property down.

It's a very big pity.

The ministry has done it's job. The Government doesn't have to stop you from occupying spaces illegally. It's your job to make sure. Afterall it's your money. So the onus lies on you

When they are ready, they simply do what they are doing now.

Because most available lands in Lagos is not meant for what they are used for now.

Think about it. You sandfill a swamp and then you start selling it out. You sef com carry money go buy land for swamp. Do you not know that the swamp is a natural floodplain for draining storm floods? Government will come and mark your building X. You will go and bribe official. That X that they marked, what is the Givernment telling you? Oh you want them to come on NTA and announce that the land at so so so is illegal. Dem don tell you. Na you no wan gree hear.

There is nothing new in what this man has said. Except you have never done your due diligence before buying properties.

If you look at the way 99.9% of Real Estate Developers portion and sell land, you will understand that the greed level is maximally high. Coupled with omo onile with zero ambition in life everybody is just trooping in blindly.

There are some threads that I read that just display the deep level of ignorance Nigerians have.

This is one of them.

Anyway, it is not their fault. I blame a government that has left its job undone for so long.

Nigerians have seen anomalies and illegalities for too long and now they accept it as a normal way of life. See people accusing government for doing what they ought to do.

People don't listen.

When you tell them the truth they will insult you and call you names.

Raji Fashola came out and warned all of you.

This should be a wake-up call now to the developers to undergo the right process before its too late. But trust NIGERIANS, we like cutting corners and blame the consequences on the day government and/or innocent village people.

WHO cares where the lots who have problems following due deligence buy their lands？ We only want organized and regulation compliants who would follow due layout for a serene, healthy, organized and presentable society.
If Enugu likes, she can allow distorted settlements all within it, nobody cares. But here in LAGOS, we say no more. If you must live amongst us, if you must put up a safe and legitimate investment, then you must do things right in compliance with the state's rule of law.
