nairalanda1: Their major mistake was not focussing solely on EPL. It was mainly due to their inability to secure the syndicated loan required for the EPL right renewal. Starting majorly with EPL was not a bad idea in Marketing 101. As a start off, there was no guarantee that they too will not work on their entertainment content. |

Person who get time to subscribe is doing him or herself more harm than good in a country of no light and fuel.. |

They may have their reasons but again we Nigerians are the cause our Love for Foreign football is causing this madness by Multichoice to be increasing their prices. Lets start Patronizing Arabsat,MultiTV,SLTV and even star times. If you wanna watch match ,#200 data will be enough. Me I can never use Multichoice cause they have boring channels that only shows old programmes 1 Like |

Na we be our own problem, people have the option of boycotting them but won't, they'd rather wail and wail only to later pay the new subscription. Staying off cable tv never killed anyone. |

ppogba: Yes, in a way I could see it making some sense...but the problem is, EPL and UCL airs for a few hours a week, the bulk on Saturday and sunday. It was in filling the other hours where there was no football that HITV really did not step up. No adequate kids, women and religious content. No adequate content in other sports self. DSTV promptly stepped up their game there. Naturally, they got more customers. |

It is one thing for Nigerians to break their own laws, it's another for a foreigner to break our laws with impunity! We will make a scape goat out of DStv 1 Like |

nairalanda1: Nigerians were aware of this before they opted for HiTV. If the syndicated loan spear headed by GT Bank had called through, they would have been okay. Perhaps and certainly, they would have scaled up their other contents. Remember I mentioned MKT 101. |

Nothing will happen to them. But let a Naija owned company base in South Africa reciprocate such action and see the decisive reaction that will follow. Who do this thing to us? |

ppogba: As the report I quoted telling the story of how HiTV fell...they were getting subscribers, but not enough Nevertheless, within a year, HiTV quickly racked up about 240,000 subscribers to DStv’s 200,000. Most of them were football loving subscribers who could not let go of their darling premiership. By 2009 subscription cost went up to N4,000. Despite this impressive number, it still fell short of paying back the premiership rights let alone servicing the existing loans. The company would have to achieve at least, 500,000 subscribers if it was to be profitable and boast of a comfortable cash rich balance sheet It got worse It was a tall order; just as balancing the books was a major challenge earlier on for HiTV, so were other teething issues. The company had major service delivery issues. Complaints flooded their customer service centers from all parts of the country. For example, after paying for subscriptions, it took the company days to activate viewing; customers became accustomed to going for days without service after making payments – there were more scrambled channels than content; customer service could not face up to the deluge of complaints they were getting and soon incurred the wrath of subscribers. See my original comment for the link to the article quoted here. SO, HITV did not get enough subscribers to make the profit needed to justify a new loan, or pay back existing loan. |

Imagine a Nigerian disobeying Court orders in South Africa Do even the president obey Court orders? Even those in judiciary don't obey the Court A Federal High Court in Abia can overule the verdict of another Federal High Court in Osun That's the kind of madness we see in Nigeria And they can still hire shameless lunatics like Reno and FFK to defend the madness and some will support once it favors their Tribe, Party and Religion. 1 Like |

How do you use the court to force a private business to not increase their price in the face of severe economic meltdown occassioned by the carelessness and cluelessness of ignorant politicians? Multichoice is not a charity organization, they too have to make profit and pay staffs.. Our courts have reduced themselves to foot mats by always giving kangaroo judgement. If the court could not force FG to reduce diesel price, fuel price, gas price or force the minister of power to reduce cost of electricity why do they want to exert their powerlessness on Multichoice? 2 Likes 1 Share |

First it is the stupid greedy Nigeria government I blame first because of the commission you get on all Nigeria using it u people have failed to develop our own... We have aspiring broadcasting cooperation but your greed and Hate for Nigerians made them collapse... U collapsed HiTv.. Now how do you expect them to fiance their maintemce services when u cannot guarantee light... They use generator to power their offices in Nigeria and transmitters... Okay... On another note I have told Dstv to introduce pay as you go they did not answer.... God punish all the leaders in our country 1 Like |
