This OP, you are a useless slave that deserve dirty slap. Are you for Nigerians or for DSTV .
DSTV in Zimbabwe and many African countries is pay as you watch. And yet Nigeria is the biggest market for DSTV. They are using Nigeria to make up for loses in other countries.
My subscription for DSTV and Gotv expired, and I refused to pay. I can't pay high subscription and either allow it waste or I be forced to buy costly fuel and run generator.

Don’t mind the idiot.

We spend from our income,so any comparison of expenses must be matched with the corresponding income,to make any sense to sane people.

Wage is down the ladder when compared to price of diesel.

I doubt if DSTV pays any of its staff 30k per month. Most big private companies have better pay package.

Argue with facts and figures Sir, not assumptions

A primary 4 pupil knows that 49 dollars is higher than 26 dollars.

If you don't know this, I can't force any info into your head.

That is not what I am asking you, don't change the topic... Now the question goes again, from your comparison, are you saying Nigerians spend more on DSTV more than South Africans or vice versa?..

Even a new born baby knows the dollar rate in Nigeria now...

Cos from your comparisons, I could see that RAND is lower than Naira...

Good one, but only if the minimum wages of the two nations are also compared will this comparison have any real significance.

In South Africa, the minimum wage is above 4 million naira per year, while it is less than 400k naira in Nigeria.

Dollar is dollar.

Rand and naira were converted to dollars to make the comparison easy. Go and read the post again. I won't spoonfeed you.

SUCH A STUPID COMPARISON

IS THE STANDARD OF LIVING AND WAGES AND COST OF SERVICES THE SAME?

HERE IN SOUTH AFRICA MINIMUM WAGE IS R3,500(N280,000)

MINIMUM RENT PER MONTH OF 1 BED IN A WHITE SUBURB IN JOHANNESBURG R7000(560,000)

IN THE UPMARKET SUBURBS MOTHLY RENT PER MONTH OF 1 BED GOES FOR R15,000(N1,200,000)

DO THE MATHS FOR FROM 2 BED

IN THE TOWNSHIPS EVEN BACK ROOMS COST FROM R1000(N80,000) PER MONTH

EVEN UBER IS 4 TIMES WHAT YOU PAY IN NIGERIA

I CAN GO ON AND ON

I HAVE BEEN LIVING IN SOUTH AFRICA SINCE 1998 SO I KNOW WHAT AM TALKING ABOUT

I just bought three free to air disc one for Movies, one for news and the other for sports. I don't even know much about it or how it works because my son introduced it to me. But it cost us 300k+ for purchase and installations. Started using since november and up till now, we've paid no dime for subs because there ain't any. I wonder why people can't just switch .

You wonder why people cant Switch?
The answer is in your Story: 300k+
and also
1. is Free to Air a stable Alternative? (I hear it goes of and On for long periods) kindly share your Experience
2. I hear it involves Massive Dishes. That means it can only be installed in YOUR Property or BUILDING. it can't work for Tenants
3. it too Capital intensive

am i right from your experience?

No point in the comparison because Naira is a strong currency domestically in Nigeria but weaker internationally while Rand is a strong currency internationally but weaker domestically in SA.
What $29 can buy in Nigeria is more than what same $29 can buy in SA.

You can watch only NTA for free. They didn't force guns on your head to subscribe.

It is DSTV that will approve minimum wage for your country?

The diesel they use to run their company in Nigeria is ten times cheaper than in Southafrica?

Kenya even pays more for DSTV subscription than Nigeria.

Maybe dstv is not pointing guns to our head But they are definitely enforcing "Monopoly" and using outright exclusive to shut out other competitors.
Dstv won't determine minimum wage but they should pick a lane, they are free to pick the rich But PAVE WAY for those that want to creat service for the poor .. emphasis on that

After struggling to pay exorbitant subscription, do dstv know how much subscribers spend on fueling just to enjoy what they paid for, whats even more annoying is the old movies & how much they repeat programs, asides football dstv is overrated

Dstv might be more expensive in Kenya or anywhere but do they have the monopoly like in Nigeria.

Nigerians should stop camparisons, unless they're going intricate and comparing minimum wages, cost of living, poverty rate etc.

Meanwhile, if you're in need of anythign Maritime in Nigeria, Ocean Guard Maritime Logistics Ltd is the surest bet.

In Nigeria, eating in a mamaput joint, normal restaurant, Sheraton hotel will not cost the same.

I don't understand why this DSTV should be a national topic. Anyone that can't afford DSTV should go for startimes or others.

Yes, let people make their choices, if anyone wants to keep using dstv, its up to them. personally, I still subscribe dstv yesterday, cos I haven't gotten an alternative yet.
But trying to compare nigeria to SA is total madness.

Don't come here and try to undermine the sufferings of millions of Nigerians.

And that is the fault of DSTv, not the fault of the cluelessly incompetent leaders we keep allowing to loot us in the LGA level up, right?

Did you say someone is mad

The dstv you pay so much for, does it not have glitches, are there no times you are watching football and the station freezes or an error appear or Do i need remind you when rain falls the almighty Dstv blank out showing E32

If nigerians after paying so can tolerate lapses from dstv why should few minute disruption on a free to Air bother me ..

i have being watching cable/free2air over 30yrs, thrash all those things you heard ... with just one dish you can track three different satelite providers ... naa LNBs you go just buy

No they may not.
But their minimum wage earners are not complaining bitterly.
That means most things are affordable to everybody.
Over here, our minimum wage earners are practically unemployed beggars on the street.
And our higher earners are all japa-ing overseas because they can't even afford to live here any more.

South Africa, the national minimum wage was first

ZAR (259.27 USD) per month; this was later adjusted to
4,045.09 ZAR (269.25 USD) per month

How is that Dstv problem? Go and face your government for a better wage. Dstv pays the same dollar for content.

Poor minimum wage of 30k in Nigeria means that Multichoice pay lesser on staff wages in Nigeria (part of cost of production) in Nigeria than in SA. One of the reasons why the charge here should be cheaper.

And operating costs such as diesel, multiple taxes and levies is more in Nigeria, so one of the reasons why it should be higher.
