Apparently. Some are even costlier than thar cheesy. It's the place and other jaras you're buying, I guess.

Someone mentioned hearing gossip in classy salons, LMAO. Shey na for streets gossip no boku? The fighting husband and wife; the one that dropped out of school because of pregnancy; NEPA palava. Your ears go too full.

Gossips are everywhere abeg. Both trenches and premium hair salons.

I like their gossips sha.

The woman that did my hair once for me, she was gisting with another lady how her husband use to handle her in bed, or gossip about her neighbour.
I'm never bored.

Okayyy. This may be one downside lipsrsealed lipsrsealed. Chisos!

You know sef, normally, people of that strata are rarely great in interpersonal relationships. Beating, shouting, curses, sending omo ise on errands and overworking them (might not be in all cases).

I'll like to think the high-end hairdressers are more composed and well-behaved, educated. You want to be showing razz behaviour in front of "big" customer wey come pay 20k for hair? grin

The thing shock me sha. She set hand like say na javelin she wan throw. On her own child o?!

Tufiakwa!

folake4u:

Spot on!!! The premium hair salons are very good for pre and post hair treatment. And also the finesse.

Lmao. The trenches hairdressers really dey give person headache especially if your scalp is soft and they pull the hair. undecided

There are also others that are REALLY good and can handle hair well using those treatments. I tell them what to do for my hair.

Hair for 800? Na braids? If na braids, give me your plug.

Yea. You really need to guide them on anything bougee. Sha no try do installation with them. They will use top bond to hold your frontals.

The trenches hairdressers are the best sha. Some people sleep on their abilities though. cheesy
my dear experience is the best teacher. When you’ve tried both and see that the others are just charging for AC that you already have at home.

The difference between trenches salon and classy ones (mostly on the Island) is just the competence. I have paid 20k for braids at Bode Thomas and 15k at Lekki respectively (supposed high class) and have done braids at the trenches salon and I can promise you that there's a huge difference between both worlds.

Firstly, making or even washing your hair in these so-called trenches salon comes with its perks and disadvantages.

DISADVANTAGES;
TRENCHES: i)I caught a lice infestation at a trenches salon twice. Till now, I still get panic attacks from remembering those moments. How? Their towels. Only a few of them maintain good hygiene for their hair accessories and towels. I always carry my combs. Okay, now I wash my hair myself.

ii) They lack basic knowledge about hair care. If you are intentional about growing your hair or maintaining length and volume, I beg you, avoid them. Firstly, washing hair with warm water is off to them. They don't sterilize their accessories and combs, they use and pass them on from customers to customers (ugh).

iii) They can use any kind of shampoo on your hair not minding the strength of the shampoo and your type of hair, after all, how much you dey pay sef? I used to have a customer back in the days when I was still hairstyling who lost all of her voluminous hair just because trenches people used "morning fresh dishwashing liquid" on her hair saying it was a shampoo. Those guys are ready to improvise to the detriment of your hair health. As long as they are gaining, who cares?

I forcefully had to buy a full hair care kit of "dark and lovely" products before these people will make me lose all of my hair.

I just picked my bags and left. Very wicked woman. I told her she would finally succeed in pushing that boy away from her.

Speaking about trenches and posh salons, over here posh salons will want to charge you $500-$1000 for braids. They also expect tips and have a long list of rules. Meanwhile the trenches lady that braids my hair charges me less than $200 or at most $250 one time when I got faux locs. I don’t do complicated styles anyway .

Girls here dey enter plane go Jamaica or one of the islands to get braids. That way if they spend $1000, they know they got braids and a vacation out of it. Nothing will make me spend $1k on braids. It’s the trenches for me or I’ll do it myself. Trenches forever. grin

Let me type all at once ojere.

4) Very unprofessional. No decorum. Them go do amebo on top person head for hours, except for a few.

DISADVANTAGES OF CLASSY SALON:

1) Wo, too pricey ni oh. undecided

Too much hype and price for braids naw. Well, thankfully, I found my plug when I have a lot of money to waste.

Oya oh, ADVANTAGES OF TRENCHES:

1) They are cost-effective and can be cheap for days. Jesu. I did my knotless braids at Okoko for 5k excluding attachments and it was so fine. In fact, finer than the one I did at Osapa, Island.

2) I can't remember.

ADVANTAGES OF CLASSY SALON (Island);

1) AC, enjoyment, Premium services. I remember I was served smoothies at Bode Thomas being a first-time customer. When I wanted to wash my hair nko, I lay like a baby on a reclining chair with AC touching my scalp. I didn't want to wake up. They don't repeat towels or use hair accessories for other customers on you, even if they do, they sterilize and ventilate them.

They wash your hair with good shampoos without alkalinic substances that cause hair breakage. Less heat on your hair. In fact, well trained stylists.

Ewo, story plenty. But, as for me oh, I'll pick Island salons over Trenches through and through. Just get a good plug. Temiyemi. wink

Sorry for the epistles oh.

Long live the Internet. Tiktok videos in particular are very creative and original. You know there's also a trenches Tiktok? Or Tiktok for trenches side? Yoruba girls are infiltrating that category. There's one that even sparked a conversation on Twitter. A girl was celebrating her birthday in "the trenches." When I find the tweet, I'll post the link.

Shuba is also another lady on YouTube I admire - do you know her? She uploads YouTube Shorts.

Sorry FK I'm just seeing this. It's the trenches braids of 5k for me ooo, because of my skilled hair stylist from Cotonou (Bukky) even though she claims she's from Badagary.

That something costs a lot of money doesn't necessarily mean it is fine or it is the next best thing after sanitary towels and that has been my experience when it comes to braiding.

I have made my hair at some of these expensive hair salons that charge an arm and a leg and I didn't like the outcome/end result. I always end up going back to my ghetto stylist, who does a fantastic job and charges very affordable rates.

One time she made pick and drop braids for me, I entered Balogun market to shop, a mother and daughter admired the hair so much, they followed me to get her phone number. The mother said she saw me since and was trying to catch up with me, without shouting or losing sight of me in that market crowd. Bukky is that good!

Another time it was a tom-boyish colleague at work (Susan) who saw the bob-marley braids Bukky made for me and asked for her number. It was on a Thursday, Susan braided with Bukky over the weekend, on Monday our male colleagues were clapping at Susan's transformation and beauty.

The colour of Xpression Bukky chose was just right for Susan's complexion, the style and packing was on point too. Bukky is blessed and skilled when it comes to hair styling and I love that she tries to keep things neat and tidy in her salon.

Such a detailed explanation. cheesy

Seven blessings to Bukky!!! kiss kiss kiss

Trenches braids any day any time.

Like pocohantas said, its to let them know what you want and make sure they do it correctly. It is always well done and lasts really long if well maintained.

The only two i had the lap experience with were my mom and grand-mom and they were kind enough to always cover their laps with extra wrappers . Must times head go in-between the laps for styles like "koroba" and "shuku" grin grin.

Well that didn't last for long though, because all through my secondary school i was on low cut. In senior secondary school i was dubbed the only girl on low cut in the whole school. When asked why? I told them i wanted to be different but the truth was you can barely touch my scalp without me making a fuss plus after all struggles a day hair will be looking like hair made ten years ago. grin grin Thank God its better now sha. grin grin.
