He further stated that in the budget submitted last year, the BMW cars for legislators was N3.63bn, but in the current version, it has now been reduced down to N340m. He noted that the new budget now has an added a N3.9bn for annual routine maintenance of villa facilities which was not in the original budget. The Nigerian Senate was unable to begin considering the proposed budget because of missing documentation. President Buhari provided the hard copies of his first budget to both houses at the end of December. Reacting via his Facebook page, Shehu Garba wrote: ”Enquiries about the budget: Nobody except the president can withdraw the budget. As far as we know, he hasn’t done that. ”The copies in their hundreds have been delivered to both chambers of the National Assembly. The Nigerian Senate was scheduled to commence deliberation on the proposed budget Tuesday (today). But Senate Leader, Ali Ndume, shocked lawmakers at a closed-door session, when he told them the budget documents had been stolen, people familiar with the matter told PREMIUM TIMES. Mr. Ndume, our sources said, explained that deliberation on the budget could therefore not begin until fresh copies of the documents were obtained from the presidency, the Ministry of Finance or that of national planning. A late night inferno on Monday in Ambursa village, Kebbi, has resulted in the deaths of nine family members. Gov. Atiku Bagudu led top government functionaries, politicians and well wishers to offer the Salatul Jana’iza prayers for the dead on Tuesday, after he had condoled with the family of the deceased. Abubakar Danlabo, head of the household, disclosed in tears that his wife, four males and four females died in the inferno that also consumed household property, foodstuff and livestock. The sole administrator of the Birnin Kebbi Local Government Council, Alhaji Aliyu Ambursa, described the inferno as an act of God. He added that the bereaved family would be supported by the government to resume a normal life. The district head of the area, Isa Haruna, called on the people to always ensure that the cooking areas in their households were located far away from hay and other inflammable materials.
