An Encyclopedia Of Language Learning Resources by odumchi: 6:22am On Jul 28, 2012 |
It's frustrating to have a desire to do something and, at the same time, lack the means by which to accomplish it. I believe that the hardest part of learning a language is knowing where to begin. Living outside of the immediate area where a language is spoken, puts us, as learners, at an immediate disadvantage. To fill this void, most of us use books, audio-tapes, CD-Roms, and anything else that we can get our hands on. However, I've noticed that there is a need for a consolidation of such resources [on Nairaland] so that all who wish to embark on the language learning journey can know where to start. I decided to create this thread so that we can post links to any language learning resources (preferably free) that we may have and help, not only others, but ourselves. |

http://www.africanbookscollective.com/ This is a pan-African website which provides information on books (of many genres) from authors of the African diaspora. There is an opportunity to purchase material as well. Another website which contains links to various African language material including dictionaries, books, etc is: http://library.columbia.edu/indiv/global/cuvl/african_studies/languages.html I hope this helps. |

You're welcome. I will update with any new information that becomes available. I feel the exact same way as you; in that we need to establish a safe, collective environment where we can share and preserve our cultural identities. If we don't tell our story who will speak for us? 3 Likes |
