may have died in an ambush by
suspected Boko Haram gunmen on a
military patrol in the Yobe State capital,
Damaturu, on Sunday.
Some residential properties in Shagari Low Cost Housing Estate in Damaturu,
Yobe State were also destroyed in the
attack, which occurred when the
suicide bomber detonated explosives
hidden in a parked car.
He reportedly detonated the explosives as a military convoy was
passing by.
Witnesses said the explosion was part
of a number of coordinated attacks
unleashed on Damaturu by suspected
Boko Haram militants. Boko Haram gunmen also attacked
the ‘A’ Division headquarters of the
state police command.
Injured persons were rushed to
nearby hospitals for medical attention.
Security agents battled insurgents on Sunday, in what has become a regular
feature of the state capital.
Yobe State Commissioner of Police,
Patrick Egbuniwe, confirmed the
attacks to newsmen on Sunday.
He, however, declined to give a figure of the casualties.
