FASTING is the total abstinence from some or all foods, drinks or both, for a specific period of time. A month is set aside by Muslims all over the world to observe Ramadan, known in Islamic calendar as the sacred month to fast and to be closer to God.

Fasting is very important in our daily living because it helps us to grow spiritually, stay healthy and walk right before God. Fasting played a key role in the spiritual journeys of religious leaders such as Muhammad, Jesus and Buddha. Physicians acknowledge fasting as one of many ways to ensure health and the soundness of one’s body and mind. It is ideal and good to include fasting in our daily living.

In this special period (Ramadan), our diet should not differ very much from our normal diet but should be such that we maintain our normal weight, neither losing nor gaining, and prevent some health problems which include malnutrition, lowered resistance to infection and disease, stomach ache, constipation that occurs as a result of inappropriate selection, and not consuming nutritious and balanced diets. But if one is over-weight, Ramadan is an ideal time to normalise one’s weight.

Today’s article provides useful information on one of the numerous foods that can be taken so as to avoid and overcome some of the health problems mentioned above. Oranges with honey is an ideal food that can be used to break a fast.

The ingredients in this dessert are orange, honey and walnuts which are good sources of vitamin C, A, E and folate (folic acid) potassium and dietary fibre. Consuming this food helps in rejuvenating the body system, boosts the immune system, prevents cancer, detoxifies the body in general and helps in bowel cleansing. It is also very effective for proper functioning of the liver and gallbladder. Children who constantly need energy to grow, play and work, pregnant and lactating mothers can benefit from this dessert. Take oranges with honey and discover the health benefits.

Ingredients Quantities

Oranges 6 medium size

Honey 4 tablespoons

Walnuts 1 cup or 100g

Method of preparation

Peel and slice the oranges.

Gather the extra juice.

Mix in the orange – juice with the walnuts and honey.

Arrange the honey- walnut – juice mixture.

Take it immediately. Enjoyyy!!! smiley smiley smiley
