Dear Nairalanders,
I am aware that most Naija folks now host their content abroad using Amazon, Hostgator and RackSpace as everyone now have access to international payment cards. I also know some Naija hosting companies are also pulling their weights (reselling plans also hosted abroad) but the fact still remains that most of our local content are hosted abroad including this very platform. Unfortunately, this also includes our banks that all sign up with Dimension Data (famously known as DD) who also ships all our personal details to be hosted in South Africa

Now the question remains that, how come no one in Nigeria has identified this gap and jumped to fill it? I know that money is not a problem as a lot of Nigerians are sitting on pots of Gold. Are there are they are political challenges or regulations? Infrastructure is not a problem as we have all these Independent Power Projects (IPPs) and access to dark fibre on MainOne, Glo1, WACS and our legacy SAT3.

So why has no one identified this opportunity? If there are any Data Centres (Not the basement of Mobil or MTN’s room at Philips Ojota), please provide details and if possible their AS Numbers
