I really don't do most of the stuff you talked about, but just wondering who made the op an authority on these matters...as in, did you copy and paste from somewhere or u just trying to be a smart-asss just saying...reading all these...your opinion is just your choice... work ethics is a different thing and it varies from workplace to workplace...just saying!...nothing personal nor is it negative criticism, just my opinion

Whether he copied it or originated it, I don't think that matters. The article is on point and captures what happens in the workplace. It is useful and helps to call our consciousness to some things that matter.

grin if u have another educational or career qualification higher than what was used as criteria for your being employed, never add it to your CV immediately and head straight up to HR or your boss to submit "your latest qualification" or even share it with your collegues. IT WILL BACKFIRE LIKE WILDFIRE!!
If there is a new job vacancy in that same company and it requires your latest qualification, then use the updated CV to apply for the new post. It will be added advantage for you by then as well as your work experience.

IF YOU DO NOT HEED TO THESE WARNING,
1- YOUR BOSSES WILL GET JEALOUS OR FEEL THREATENED ABOUT HIS POSITION OR WHAT DO YOU THINK WILL HAPPEN IF YOUR BOSS HAD WORKED FOR A COMPANY FOR 10 YEARS WITHOUT ANY ADDED QUALIFICATION WHILE YOU JUST CAME INTO THE COMPANY AND GOT AN ICAN AND PROJECT MANAGEMENT CERTIFCATIONS IN 5 YEARS? wink

2- OTHERS WILL FEEL YOU ARE JUST SHOWING OFF THAT YOU ARE BETTER OFF AND WORKING YOUR WAY TO AUTOMATIC PROMOTION

3- SUBMITTING YOUR UPDATED C.V AHEAD OF A JOB VACANCY MAY NOT GIVE YOU THAT REAL EDGE WHEN THE RIGHT TIME COMES.

I NEVER copy any thread i start on nairaland.
I have MORE THAN ENOUGH articles to put up on nmairaland to last the next 6 months.
i am just too lazy to put things together for my different books on Caee, Relationship, Marketing, Entrepreneur and even on Security.
You can go through my past threadfs to determine if i dont have enough materials to keep you busy for the whole day just reading through my post.

Didnt want to sound boastful but you needed such a reply.

Jarus: I agree with all the never-dos mentioned. They are very important, if not critical.

A lot of times I almost fell for that no 1: (discussing a colleague with another colleague), before gaining my senses and nipping it.

It can be very dangerous.

Same thing with discussing your boss with another colleague.

I know it happens among many people. For example, just yesterday, one of my distant colleagues(same dept but different unit) was asking in front of another colleague that 'when did you join this company that you're been sent on foreign training' while the other close colleague(who shares same boss with me, and joined earlier than I did) in whose presence the first one asked me that question also interjected 'he is very powerful now'.

Instantly, I knew these guys had grudges with my being sent on training and had discussed me in my absence! I knew they had beef with me for being sent on training while they, who had been in the system before me, had not been. This was the same person I almost, off-guard, wanted to open discussion on our boss with sometime ago. I thank God I didn't do.

But all these things are normal office politics and it's a game you should know how to play.

Give them Otapiapia to drink.with that,they will stop gossiping about you.

....and this is the same reason why some of the moderators expecially the one in ROMANCE keep banning me at the slightest opportunity because he feels i am a threat to him.

I love this. It doesn't apply only in the office but in everyday life. For instance, between the Tenants and the Landlord/Landlady. But the most important thing is to be polite even to those colleagues you share mutual dislike. They will appreciate it.

Do your work diligently without trying to impress anyone, if u think it will buy u favors?? It won't cos @ the end of it all no one really cares. So do your work and don't kill yourself trying to take on more than you can do in other to please your boss.

Bosses avoid. Sending your juniors on non related office errands. Like going to bank or sch run! Frankly its just annoying.
Try. And avoid getting in the middle of an argument, office is nt the best place to. Practice favouritism. They are adults, let them work out their differences

* Never get to talk about your colleagues to fellow colleagues especially what you can't say openly. It has no other word but you being a GOSSIP. Those same people you gossip with are most likely going to tell others what you said and how you are such a bad gossip.

* Avoid lending money or other items from colleagues. Its better to look outside for your financial, fashion and other needs rather than looking for your helpers within the office environment. You always lose respect from colleagues when you take your needs to them.

* Avoid discussing your family, emotional, financial and general problems with colleagues. In the office place, there is always something to be said and the day the office lacks gist, a secret shared with a colleague might just pop-up to be the discussion of that day.

* Never talk evil about your bosses, colleagues and job. The office setting is like a jungle. It is always survival of the fittest. A colleague who is the bosses' enemy today can turn around and seel you out to gain favours from the boss and remain in their good books.

* Never buy things all for the purpose of impressing your colleagues. While you are busy doing fashion competition with your fellow colleagues, always remember that your days to exit their company is drawing near. Either through retirement, retrenchment, resignation or even sack, one day you will have to leave that company. So rather than waste of frivolous items to create a 'fake personality', try to have savings to help you out during raining days.

* Don't always offer to pay for meals and other items for your colleagues when you go outing. Since you all collect salary, then don't make it a point of duty to always pay for colleagues. If you do it consistently just to create a 'nice personality' image, it will be taken personal by colleagues when you try to stop.

* Let your colleagues know your turnoffs. In as much as you should avoid quarrels, confrontation and malice at the office, it is always good to point out to colleagues when they do anything to you that you aren't happy with. Let people know when they are crossing the line of familiarity.

* Never be too dependent on a colleague. If you have a colleague who has a car while you don't have one and go your direction, don't always make it a point of duty to follow them every single day of the week. You get a salary and part of the expenses you need to incur is yours transportation so don't be too miserly. Even though the need to save is understandable, don't make anyone believe they are doing you a huge favour. There's nothing wrong if you decide to take public transport even while your colleague is heading towards your direction. That way they will not only respect you, but also realize you can do without their favours.

* Where and How one finds love is something that can never be predicted. But if you can totally avoid having a relationship or falling inlove with a colleague then the better for you. It saves you from subject of office gossip, uneceassry pressure, fake life, self denial and a lot of other vices associated with dating a colleague at the office.

meanwhile..one of my colleagues has been on my neck to date him. even if am not dating anyone, a colleague is like the forbidden apple for me.
