"One Chance" is a style of robbing unsuspecting victims on commuter buses that became a very disturbing trend in Lagos. The name “One chance” comes from the tales of early victims of this kind of robbery who usually recalled how the criminal bus conductor would shout “one chance” signaling the robbery to begin, just as the last unsuspecting victim boards the vehicle.

In Abuja, " One Chance" robberries are slightly different as unmarked taxis tend to be the vehicle of choice rather than commuter buses as in the Lagos case. Although some victims have reported some marked taxis and even buses involved in some One Chance operations. Robberies in Lagos can happen at anytime even in the day time along busy places, whereas in Abuja robberies are mostly at night or early in the morning in isolated places. Below are some tips and advice to aid you to avoid being a victim of criminal chancers.
