Duncan, star of The Green
Mile, has died at the age of
54 after a heart attack.

Tom Hanks today paid tribute to actor Michael
Clarke Duncan, the hulking
character actor whose
dozens of films included an Oscar-nominated performance as a death
row inmate in The Green
Mile.

Hanks, co-star in the 1999
film, said: “I am terribly
saddened at the loss of Big
Mike. He was the treasure
we all discovered on the
set of The Green Mile. He was magic. He was a big
love of man and his passing
leaves us stunned.”

Duncan, the star of such
other box office hits as
Armageddon, Planet of the
Apes and Kung Fu Panda,
died of a heart attack
yesterday aged 54. The former bodyguard, who
was 6’4″, only turned to
acting in his thirties. He died
at Cedars-Sinai Medical
Center in Los Angeles and
was accompanied by his fiancée, reality TV
personality Rev. Omarosa
Manigault.



The Chicago-born star
owed some of his good
fortune to Bruce Willis,
who recommended Clarke
for The Green Mile after the
two appeared together in Armageddon. Duncan
would work with Willis
again in Breakfast of
Champions, The Whole Nine
Yards and Sin City. Frank Darabont, director of
The Green Mile, said:
“Michael was the gentlest
of souls – an exemplar of
decency, integrity and
kindness. The sadness I feel is inexpressible.”
