A police corporal, Abbey Adekunle, who is attached to the Meiran Police Station has been arrested for the alleged murder of a tricycle operator on Wednesday. Adekunle shot the deceased, Dele Oroja, around 10.20 pm while on duty in front of the station.
Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Umaru Manko, who confirmed the incident, was said to have ordered the immediate arrest of the suspect and efforts were made to save the life of the deceased, but to no avail.
Also, a statement signed by the spokesperson for the state police command, Ngozi Braide, said the tricycle operator did not die on the spot, but at a nearby hospital, where he was rushed immediately after the sad incident.
According to the statement, “On Sept. 6, 2012 at about 11.20 pm, one corporal Abbey Adekunle attached to Meiran Division while on duty and clearing of obstruction in front of the police station, allegedly shot one Dele Ojora a tri-cyclist, under a mysterious circumstance.
“The victim was immediately rushed to Araba Medical Center, Meiran, but unfortunately died overnight. The corpse has been deposited at the General Hospital, Ikeja, for post mortem examination, while the suspect is under arrest and currently being detained at the State Criminal Investigation Department, Yaba.”
