Building city gates was an ancient Islamic concept to regulate just one entrance and exit point in their cities and towns.Usually to ensure security during the medieval periods of frequent wars. However modern middle eastern cities now use city gates as an art work center of sort.

Anyhow, the concept of city gates was adopted as a model for Northern Nigerian cities and now Rochas has taken it further to build street gates for even streets inside the city? grin
You know our people like over doing stuff. grin

Governor Okorocha Vows To Give Imo A More Befitting Capital City

Government House, Owerri

Press Release

The Governor of Imo State, Owelle Rochas Okorocha has restated his resolve to bequeath the State a most befitting capital city as over 60% of government’s capital projects are sited within the Owerri capital territory.

Owelle Okorocha stated this while inspecting the ongoing construction of drainage within the Works Layout and Amakohia areas of Owerri.

The Governor, who recalled that erosion had remained a major challenge in the areas, pointed out that a number of houses a threatened as a result of several years of neglect and lack of attention by previous administrations to the erosion challenge.

He said that the Rescue Mission government embarked construction of drainage within the Works Layout, through Imo State University to Amakohia which will be channeled to the Nworie River.

The Governor express believe that such measure would bring a permanent solution to erosion problem in the area and urged the contractor to hasten up the job in order to ensure its completion before December, 2014.

Owelle Okorocha also maintained that his administration has made remarkable achievements in the infrastructural development of the Owerri Capital City in order to position the State as a tourist heaven.

He further disclosed plans for the creation of a new city road network to help improve the traffic situation within the city.

Governor Okorocha recounted some of the capital projects located within the Owerri Capital City to include, Owerri City School, the Imo International Conference Centre, Odenigbo Guest House, Akachi Road, Akachi Towers, Centenary Towers, Freedom Square, Heroes Square, the reconstruction of city roads, and the inland bridges linking old and new Owerri, the Ochiedike Diagnostic Centre among others.

Hail the governor of Owerri state.

Re: Few Pics From Imo State by millionaireman: 10:03pm On Aug 06, 2014
Lol. Okorocha what a politician!!
If 95% of capital projects in Imo state were in Owerri before Okorocha became governor, by now it must have reached 98%.

Perhaps, before Okorocha leaves office, 99.99% of capital projects in Imo state may be in Owerri. What a state governor turned to Mayor of the state capital.

As Okorocha tells of several drainage projects he is building in Owerri, flood may soon carry away this St Joseph's Catholic church and other roads and buildings in Orlu. Okorocha adamantly refuses to complete a drainage project that was started by former governor Ikwechegh and planned to channel Orlu flood water into the nearby Ogidi valley. Instead Okorocha dug this pit near the church,

Today, it is difficult to cross from one side of Orlu to the other due to uncompleted roads started by Okorocha govt.

Now Okorocha seems to be telling it openly to Orlu and others - go to hell. With uncompleted projects, he is using areas outside the state capital as baits for his reelection. An uphill task.

Gov. Okorocha hardly sat down in office as governor when Orlu leaders marched to him and requested for a PUBLIC university in Orlu zone.
There is more reason now than ever for increment of university facilities in Imo state.

Let Okorocha know that his proposed Rochas Foundation University in Ogboko can only be a supplement to a PUBLIC university in Orlu - never a substitute.
By any global standard, the 12 Lgas in Orlu with their population merit a PUBLIC university.
Whatever his grouse against Orlu senatorial zone, posterity here shall never forgive Okorocha if he denies Orlu zone a merited public university, or at worse, a multi-faculty campus of IMSU - now.
