Rapper, MI Follows Eedris
Abdukareem’s Footstep, Wages War Against Rick
Ross

In 2004, Eedris
Abdukareem surprised the
world and gained
international attention
when he engaged US
rapper 50 Cent while on a plane. This happened when
50 Cent was in Nigeria for a
show. This brought about
revolution in the music
industry as local artistes
thereafter started getting good pay from shows
promoters as performance
fee.

In August 2012, another
US rapper, Rick Ross was in
Nigeria for a show. While in
Nigeria, Rick Ross shot a
music video for his
controversial ‘Hold Me Back’ song. The Nigerian
version of music video has,
after its release, been
criticised for the bad
portrayal of Nigeria as a
slum country.

Recall that his first version
of the same music video
was banned on BET
stations for some
controversial issues. Now, Nigerian rapper, Jude
Abaga otherwise known
as MI has vent his anger on
Rozay as Rick Ross is
fondly called over the way
he painted the most populous black nation in
the world as ghetto.

MI posted on his website,
“does it make you angry?
Does it rile you to see your
country portrayed as poor
and suffering and full of
struggle? “It burns you, does it not?
To have some foreigner-
who knows nothing of
your history and pain, of
the stories that flow within
your blood- to have this foreigner come in and tell
your story? “Is it not the height of
disrespect and
insensitivity? Does it not
chafe against the thick skin
you have grown to cover
your other wounds? Does it not make you angry? “We should wax
sanctimonious about
national pride being
slighted. We should vent
our displeasure online. We
should occupy something. Because God forbid the
truth ever be told about
what things really are. “God forbid a stranger
remind us about those
things we choose to ignore
everyday. God forbid we
ever face the truth about
ourselves. God forbid we do not go on the internet
and rail about how our
country is being cast in bad
light. “God forbid we do not talk
about how there is a small
minority which lives better
than portrayed. God forbid
we do not ignore truth one
more time. God forbid we don’t.” For those who have watch
the controversial music
video, was Rick Ross
portraying a wrong
Nigeria?

What MI wrote is a subtle call for revolution by Nigerians. He didn't criticize Rozay, he was criticizing our warped mentality. We should not bury our heads in sand and still cry foul over Rozay's video because he didn't shoot the video in Nigeristan... It was shot in Naija slums and that's where a whole lot of people live and die.

We should rather vent our anger towards the few that have strangled us to live like this, while they live otherwise. angry.

Mi needs to chill. The original also shows live in one of its worst form. How come no one cried?

It's bad enough that RICKEY made us look that way maybe if MI had mad a hit talking about a cancerous nigeria and the hope rising from within RICKEY'S story would have been petty. With all that been said MI should hold his ground; he can lyrically murder RICKEY anyday.
