The Nigeria Union of Teachers, Lagos
State chapter and its counterpart,
Ogun NUT have agreed to embark on
indefinite strike if the state
governments fail to pay 27.5 Teachers
Salary Scale before 24th of
September, 2012.
The Lagos NUT boss, Comrade
Samson Idowu, disclosed this recently
at the launch of e-teaching learning
process computers for teachers held
at Alausa, Lagos.
“We are looking forward to resume
the new academic session as
scheduled, unless we are barred by
the inaction of the government on the
full payment of 27.5 TSA to our
teachers”, he added.
Comrade Idowu said there is no going
back on the strike if government fails
to meet the demand of teachers.
“The strike is not a warning strike
because we have waited for long.
Come 24th of this month, we shall
embark on indefinite strike”, he said.
“We had a meeting with the Lagos
State government recently and they
said the balance would be included in
the 2013 budget. This should not be
so. Why do teachers have to wait so
long? We are not going to relent on
our proposed strike until the Lagos
State government hearkens to our
demand. We want this money paid
this year. This money has been due
since 2008”, he said.
