Angry Villagers Block Major Northern Federal Highway. by Santi222(m): 5:28pm On Sep 29, 2012
For about 4 hours now, an angry mob has been blocking one of the federal highways linking Northern and Southern Nigeria, the Markurdi- Lafia- Abuja- Kaduna road. With the Lokoja- Abuja highway put out of action by floods, this blockage might constitute a problem. The whole imbroglio started when one of the buses of New Nyanya transport company, hit and killed a villager in a village just outside Lafia, the Nassarawa state capital. In retaliation, a mob instantly set the vehicle ablaze, with the passengers and driver running for dear life. The Mob the set about blocking the highway, and turning all vehicles back. A Second NN Transport Company bus that tried to force its way through was also torched with its driver inside. It had to take the intervention of the State Governor himself before a few vehicles were let through. As I write this from Lafia, where hundreds of passengers are stranded, especially those of Mass Transport Companies, the mob is still refusing to let any transport company vehicle through, even with the governor there. Which way Nigeria?
