Guinea Cautiously Optimistic Against Ghana by Nobody: 1:57am On Jan 19, 2008
Guinea will approach the opener of the 26th African Cup of Nations with Ghana on a cautious note.
Coach Robert Nouzaret says his charges are cautiously optimistic against the host ahead of the game billed for the sold out 40,000 all-seater Ohene Djan Stadium in Accra.
He told www.ghanacan2008.com that “we are sure of the quality of Ghana’s team but we will not have come here if we were unsure of our chances.”
Coach Nouzaret favours Ghana ahead of his side ranked third on the continent but admits Guinea cannot be undervalued.
“Ghana is ahead and their quality is pure.”
The Black Stars will have the crowd behind them on Sunday but the manager believes the chanting and cheering that will come from the stands could work in Guinea’s favour.
“We do not worry about stage fright because we are also aware that that could favour us and put pressure on our opponents.”
Guinea’s modest target, according to the French trainer is to get to the semi finals and taking a game at a time remains their aim.
He says a good result against Ghana could mathematically define their chances in the tourney that pieces Africa’s finest together.
Guinea was quarter finalist at the last event held in Egypt whilst Ghana exited in the first round of the same Championship.
