ABUJA- Four farmers in Kogi State have committed suicide as a result of losses they incurred due to flood just as thousands of others have been displaced. President Goodluck Jonathan who disclosed this yesterday in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State capital while undertaking a tour of the areas affected by flood encouraged the Internally Displaced People, IDPs, in Bayelsa State not to give up hope, assuring that the Federal Government was committed to rehabilitating them.

He stated this in one of IDPs camps at Samson Siasia stadium, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.

Speaking in Yenagoa, President Jonathan said, “In Kogi State, four farmers committed suicide because they borrowed money from the bank to buy seeds and flood came and destroyed it. So because they were scared they committed suicide. I was also in a place in Kogi, where a storey building was under water.

“People that are not in IDP are the people always struggling for relief materials. This flood is all over the world, Asia, Europe, I know that Nigeria flooding is bad. And when we have such disaster food is not the problem, do not make food your priority.

“If you eat once, thank God, I know that none of you would die of hunger here. Before the middle of November, the water would have receded.”

Pres. Jonathan doesn't make presidential statements at all. None of those displaced people would be encouraged by such lame speech from Mr. President.

I never knew people could be so utterly clueless and stup.i.d till this president came along. How could any decent human being with a sprinkling of grey matter in their skull say what this dolt said.He is asking these guys not to expect a meal,they should hibernate and wake up when the flood waters recede.There is nothing this president has that I want.Nothing!

Not everyone out there has the temerity of Jimoh Ibrahim or Femi Otedola who take loans with no intention whatsoever of repaying. Some hardworking, honest Nigerians out there have taken their lives rather than face the impending disaster. I don't approve but I understand.

What we who are alive should be concerned about is the cost of food next year and the ripple effect on our economy then we can make light of more suicides to come.

For those who think they are going to hell,their hell just actually ended,while yours is still on,untill you kpeme.

They might have taken a clue from gej,when he said they shouldnt commit suicide in his speech.How he could have used that harsh word to console a nation is sometime i dont understand,it felt like he was teasing them and reminding them of options.
