I was doing a research about Mansa Musa some weeks ago and read the conclusion by certain historians that he was the richest man who ever lived. Dunno how true it is, but I have read about his fabled wealth, generousity, pilgrimage to Mecca where he gave so much money that led to inflation in Egypt for years.
