Nigeria To Reopen Case On Halliburton's $183m Bribe Money. by str8talk1: 6:54am On Oct 26, 2012
There are indications that the Nigerian Govt. is likely to re-open the Halliburton's Bribery Scandal that occured during Gen. Obasanjo's time in office as Presiden of Nigeria. Reason for revisiting this case is oweing to the fact the US Govt. refused to release the about $183m bribe money recovered from Halliburton to the Nigerian Govt. due to the latter's inability to show enough seriousness/commitment to try those indicted in the bribery scandal especially Julius Berger which was used as a conduit pipe in executing the delivery of the bribe money in tranches to the then govt. officials who in turn make returns to their Principal in power. While the US Govt. has tried those involved in the scandal on their country soil, the Nigerian govt. has fined Halliburton owned by former US Vice President,Dick Cheney with about $28m while leaving others like Julius Berger off the hook.
