The Federal Road Maintenance Agency has engaged about 10,000 youths under the Subsidy Re-investment Empowerment Programme to ensure continuous maintenance of federal roads across the country.

The youths, who work in collaboration with FERMA engineers, are natives of the various communities located close to the highway.

Managing Director of FERMA, Mr. Gabriel Amuche, said in a statement on Thursday that the engagement of the youths was part of Federal Government’s job creation programme under the SURE-P.

While inspecting the road patches being carried out by some of the youths along Kaduna/Abuja Expressway, the managing director also said that the Federal Government had given the agency three months to put the federal roads in order.

While calling on Nigerians to be patient with the agency, the FERMA boss said the agency had 35,000 kilometres of roads under its watch, adding that it was not easy to see the agency workers on every kilometre of road at the same time.

He said, “We implore all Nigerians to own our roads. The roads are built with our tax. Members of the public should partner with FERMA and report any failing that needs intervention. We hope to touch every part of the country especially now that the dry season is setting in.

If this is true then it's a nice one by the FG,at least it will give all those jobless boys in all those rural communities an opportunity to earn honest paychecks.

How did FERMA went about the engagement process 'coz it was never advertised, not even on FERMA website.
