Achebe’s Lies Exposed: How Ojukwu Starved Igbo Children - Biafra’s PR Rep by drnoel: 12:43pm On Oct 28, 2012
FRESH revelations have emerged on the role of the late Biafran warlord, Chief Odumegwu Ojukwu, in the starvation and consequent death of many Igbo civilians during the Nigerian Civil War.

The late warlord was said to have deliberately caused the starvation of his kinsmen to advance his ambition of war concessions, denigrate the Nigerian government and the West as well as drum up international support for his secession bid.

In a letter written by the Public Relations representative of Biafra in the United States, Robert S. Goldstein, and published in the defunct Morning Post of 1968, to convey his intention of resignation as a representative of the fledgling breakaway republic in the U.S., the late Biafran leader was accused of being the mastermind behind the misfortune that befell his people.

Goldstein’s resignation letter seems to have faulted portions in Professor Chinua Achebe’s memoir, There was a Country: A Personal History of Biafra, in which the writer blamed the starvation of Igbo civilians on the Sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, who was the former Federal Commissioner of Finance and Vice-President of the Federal Executive Council during General Yakubu Gowon’s military administration.

“It is inconceivable to me that you would stop the feeding of thousands of your countrymen (under auspices of world organisations such as the International Red Cross, World Council of Churches and many more) via a land corridor which is the only practical way to bring in food to help at this time.

“It is inconceivable to me that men of good faith would try to twist world opinion in such a manner as to deceive people into believing that the starvation and hunger that is consuming ‘Biafra’ is a plot of Britain, Nigeria and others to commit genocide.

It is high time we stopped this....many threads have been opened for this discourse.
.
The truth has been there right from onset.
.
Awolowo or not, blaming anyone for what happened years ago solves nothing in this fourth republic!
.
Its the way forward that matters now!

I agree too but putting it under the rug would not help too rather undertanding and accepting the truth and then moving on from there is what we advocate.

Nobody wants to take the blame....yorubas and Igbos are really trying to shove the truth down each other's and one another's throat, but nobody would wanna swallow the bitter truth!

then we will keep shoving it down their throats till they acknowledge that the truth would not be ignored, it has to be heard, people have to understand, people have to see it, people have to learn from it, then can we move unto progress together as one country and one people...
