In its desire to reduce the number of carbon emissions and also complement other mode of transportation.
Lagos state government is set to inroduce bicycle lanes along some roads. Kayode opeifa, the state commissiner for transport, mentioned this last weekend at a cycling event dubbed 'park and ride' organised by victoria island based COOL FM. On air personality, Mannie. 'The bicycle programme is on and pretty soon you will see some roads in lagos marked as bike zones. What is the alternative to okada? 'It is the bicycle' said the commissioner. Discouraging the use of commercial motorcycles for short distances, he appealed; anybody who wants to take a bike from their house to the bustop should use their bicycles and when they get to the bustop they should tie their bicycles to the pole provided at the bustops and join the BRT buses. The poles we are providing at the bus stops are not for decoration but for people to tie their bicycles'. he also pointed out, addind that the bicycle riding also has health benefits, besides reducing carbon emissions into the atmosphere.
'All over the world from london to stockholm to buenus Aires, people now ride their bicycles to work because it saves the environment of the gaseous emissions that are harmful to the environment'. Park 'n' ride is a yearly event designed to inspire the public to park their cars and ride bicycles in a bid to address climate change and improve people's lifestyles..

Bicycle lanes?

Build PEDESTRIAN SIDEWALKS FIRST FASHOLA.

WITH UNDERGROUND DRAINAGE.

Then we can talk realistically about bicycle lanes.

You can't have bicycle lanes beside open gutters.

The very idea is ludicrous.

Bicycles used to crowd our streets way before Fashola and there was nothing unrealistic about it. This is just you and your usual ignorance..

Newly constructed roads in lag have pedestrian sidewalk plus underground drainage. Those with open drainage are the ones probably constructed by Tinubu and some federal roads.

Ignorance or hate?

Meanwhile, lets talk about Aba or Onitsha, thats what me Im itching to talk about. What are the Governors there doing thats making their citizens concentrate on the living conditions of Lagos after fleeing home due to the deplorable conditions there?
Re: Lagos To Introduce Bicycle Lanes by T8ksy(m): 2:26pm On Jul 26, 2013
Haba! Someone ought to tell this guy Fashola to slow down now. Abi hin dey on steroids ni?

Everyday, na so so Fashola this , Fashola that . Is he the only governor in the country ni? He needs to take a well

deserved hiatus, ojare. At the rate, the man is going, come 2015, there will be no one left in Nnewi as they would have

all migrated down to Lagos, chanting "we are nigerians (not biafrans) and as such we can live anywhere we choose to, in the

country".

@ eko ile, abeg, tell fashola to ease up o. Lagos is congested enough as it is, jo.

Are you telling me Fashola don't build underground drains in Lagos? In Niger Delta states most of their roads are with underground drains. Well, the last time i get to lagor, i was at Isolo, and i saw open drain, was little bit dissapointed shall

While the policy's commendable, would it work? I would rather trek to a bus-stop than take a bicycle there to tie up.

Secondly, lagosians don't usually use motorcycles for short distances. They use it for long/medium distances that are blocked due to traffic congestion.

I think we need better policies and not this because I'm very sure the bicycles would get stolen. Abi no be Lagos we dey?
