That it was on this same day,on the 10th of November 1995, that the renowned FIREBRAND environmental activist and author, KEN SARO WIWA was arrested,HASTILY TRIED and hanged by a special military tribunal by the dictatorial military regime of GEN. SANI ABACHA of CURSED memory!!
What was his supposed CRIME? Simple. Daring to speak up and vehemently opposing the deep-seated environmental degradation occasioned by oil exploration, while leaving the land (Ogoniland) grossly under-developed .
Here was a man whose agitation was devoid of ulterior and selfish undertones - explore the natural resource, but develop the land while you are at it. And what did
he get? A cruel and tortuous
death.
Today, 17 years after his death, the issues the activist fought against are still bedeviling the region. I reckon that he shld b grossly disappointed in the state of the Niger Delta today even with the fact that the President of the country is from that region.
While praying that his soul find sweet repose, my sincere prayer to God for this country is: DEAR GOD, PLEASE RESTORE THE
FACTORY (ORIGINAL) SETTINGS OF THIS COUNTRY!! Amen.
