The Management of Niger Delta Power
Holding Company (NDPHC) Limited has
assured Nigerians that Omotosho Power
Plant Phase ll is ready to contribute
additional 500 megawatts to the
national grid by December.
Mr. James Olotu, the Managing Director
of the company, owners of the National
Integrated Power Project (NIPP),
disclosed this to news men in Ondo State
during an inspection visit to some NIPP
power plants in the South-West.
Olotu said three of the four units in
Omotosho is already contributing about
375 megawatts to the national grid
while the last unit would come on
stream by December to make 500
megawatts.
He said the on-going success recorded
in the NIPP power project is in line with
the power sector reform agenda of
President Goodluck Jonathan’s
administration.
“I have been assured by the contractor
handling the projects that the 500 mega
watts will be added to the national grid
by December.
“Presently, three units which are one,
two, and three are generating about
375MW are currently on the grid, while
the last unit four, would come on stream
by December,” he said.
NDPHC also expressed satisfaction on the
total level of commitment by the
contractors handling the ongoing-NIPP
projects in Omotosho.
“I’m very impressed with the work I saw
here today, because all the workers are
working like a team to achieved the
stated goal. “Nigerians will be having
additional 500MW available to the grid if
all the gas requirement is provided. I am
sure that all concerned people are
working to ensure availability of gas to
the power plants,’’ Olotu stated.
He said that with the level of work in all
NIPP projects, the country is expected to
get about 1, 500MW that will be added
to the national grid by December, which
is subject to availability of gas.
“Currently, we have about 700MW in the
grid, which is expected to increase to
1,500 mw by December. Gas has been
our major challenge but we hope it will
be addressed with the level of assurance
given by the Nigerian Gas Company
(NGC).”
Olotu said that some units are not
working due to non-availability of gas,
adding that they have been assured by
NGC of gas availability.
