WHEN OUR PARENTS AND SYSTEMS SEND US TO SCHOOL AN WE ASK WHY..THEY SAY WE ARE GOING TO GET KNOWLEDGE. "KNOWLEGE IS POWER": THIS IS THE SLOGAN THEY USE TO JUSTIFY THE ACADAMIZATION OF YOUTH SOCEITY.

BUT WE THE YOUTH MUST BEGIN TO ASK OOURSELVES QUESTIONS..WHERE DOES ONE REALLY GET THIS KNOWLEDGE THAT GIVES POWER?? FROM THESE SCHOOLZ?? IF SO THEN WHY IS IT THAT MOST OF US "EUCATED" YOUTH ARE SO POWERLESS THAT IT HAS BECOME NECCESSARY FOR US TO KEEP ATTENDING AN INCREASING PLETHORA OF FORUMS AND SEMINARS ON EMPOWERMENT..EMPOWERMENT.. EMPOWERMENT AND MORE EMPOWERMENT..EVEN AFTER THE MSC.s AND BSC.s AND PHD.s THAT WERE SUPPOSED TO GIVE US POWER WERE AQUIRED??

CUD IT BE THAT ALL THE SCHOOLS OR TERTIARY INSTITUTIONS IN THIS COUNTRY (NAIRA LAND) HAVE NOT BEEN EQUIPED WITH THE WHERE-WITH-ALL THAT IS REQUIRED TO EMPOWER THE YOUTH? OR CUD IT BE THAT WE HAVE MISSED IT SOMWHERE?? MAYBE WE DONT KNOW WHAT KNOWLEDGE MEANS?? IF WE DID. WE WUD HAV A BETTER IDEA OF HOW TO AQUIRE IT??

THE TRUTH IS..THAT KNOWLEDGE CAN GIVE POWER. OR KNOWLEDGE CAN CAYAE THOSE WHO HAVE AQUIRED IT TO BE POWERFUL. BUT TO KNOW IF IT CAN BE AQUIRED IN SCHOOLS OR TERTIARY INSTITUTIONS..OR EVEN IN UNIVERSITIES WUD INVOLVE FINDING OUT THE REASON WHY THESE SCHOOLS AND LEARNING ESTABLISHMENTS HAV BEEN SET UP IN THE FIRST PLACE.
THE SCHOOLZ MIGHT BE XPECTED TO EMPOWER THE YOUTH..TO EMPOWER STUDENTS.. .BUT SUPPOSING THESE SCHOOLZ HAV NOT BEEN SET UP FOR THAT PURPOSE??
ONE WAY OF FINDING OUT THE OBJECTIVES BEHIND ANY ENTERPRISE..OR WHY SOMTHING IS BEING SET UP.. IS TO FIND OUT WHO SET THAT THING UP.
QUESTION: WHO IS RESPOBSIBLE FOR THE FEDERAL UNIVERSITES U HAV IN NIGERIA.??
ANSWER: THE GOVERNMENT!!
OR BETTER STILL THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT FOR THE FEDERAL UNIVERSITIES WHILE THE STATE SCHOOLS CAN BE TRACED TO THE STATE GOVERNMENTS.
WHEN WE BEGIN TO LOOK AT ACADEMIC ESTABLISHMENT FROM ITS RUDIMENTARY STAGES THEN PRIMARY SCHOOLZ AND EVEN NURSERY SCHOOLS ARE CALLED TO MIND, COMPREHENSIVE SCHOOLZ, GRAMMAR SCHOOLZ AND THE LIKES, COLLEGES OF EDUCATION AND TECHNOLOGY,..THESE-MORE TRADITIONALY-WILL BE TRACED TO FEDERAL/ STATE GOVERNMENTS AND A MYRIAD OF RELIGIOUS ESTABLISHMENTS LIKE THE ANGLICAN CHURCH, THE CATHOLIC CHURCH, THE PRESBITARIAN CHURCH etc,
IT IS QUITE SIGNIFICANT (THE RELATIONSHIP BTWEEN RELIGION AND GOVERNMENT PROFERED HERE) FOR EARLIER IN HISTORY, CHURCHES AND OTHER RELIGIOUS ESTABLISHMENTS PLAYED THE ROLE OF GOVERNMENT FOR THE VARIOUS NATIONS AND SOCIETIES THAT THE HUMAN RACE HAS BEEN SEGREGATED INTO.
NOW IF (FOR A CONSIDERABLE PORTION OF RECORDED HISTORY) GOVERNMENTS AND CHURCHES/RELIGIONS HAVE SHOWN KEEN INTEREST IN EDUCATION OF THE MASSES/YOUTH, THEN IT IS POSSIBLE THAT BOTH OF THEM HAVE DABBLED INTO THE TEACHIN ENTERPRISE FOR PRETTY MUCH THE SAME REASON.
BUT WHAT CUD THIS REASON BE?? CUD IT BE THAT GOVERNMENT AND RELIGIOUS ESTABLISHMENT HAVE-FOR CENTURIES NOW-BEEN INVOLVED IN EDUCATION OF THE YOUTH FOR THE PURPOSE OF EMPOWERING THEM??
IF SO, THEN WHY ARE EDUCATED YOUTH STEADILY LOOZIN POWER?? IF NOT, THEN WHY DO WE KEEP DECEIVIN OURSELVES THINKING THAT POWER (OR EVEN KNOWLEDGE) OOZES FROM A PHD

FIRST OF ALL, ANY ONE WHO SETS UP ANYTHING HAS SET UP WHAT SO EVER IT IS TO PROTECT HIS OR HER INTEREST. OR TO FOWARD ONE PERSONAL CAUSE OR THE OTHER.
PEOPLE HAVE ALL KINDS OF NOBLE REASONS FOR ESTABLISHIN THINGS OR INITIATING DIFFERENTS PROGRAMMES OR NGO's OR FORUMS AND WHAT HAVE U..BUT THE BOTTOM LINE IS..NO MATTER THE "NOBLE" FRONT THAT HAS BEEN GIVEN TO ANY INITIATIVE... THAT INITIATIVE HAS BEEN INITIATED IN THE BEST INTEREST OF THE INITIATOR. EVEN IF THE SAID INITIATIVE IS A SECONDARY SCHOOL, A HIGH SCHOOL, A COLLEGE, A NURSERY SCHOOL, A UNIVERSITY OR EVEN A DAY CARE CENTRE.
IT MUST THEN FOLLOW..THAT IF GOVERNMENT HAS INVESTED TIME, MONEY, MANPOWER AND OTHER RESOURCES TO ESTABLISH AN EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM, THEN THEY HAVE DONE THAT IN THEIR OWN BEST INTEREST AND NOT IN THE INTEREST OF THE YOUTH OR THE SO CALLED "LEADERS OF TOMORROW"
AND ANY HUMANITARIAN FRONT SHOULD BE SCRUTINIZED FOR EMBEDDED SCAMS.

TO REALLY GET TOO THE HEART OF THE MATTER.. YOUNG PEOPLE WOULD DO WELL TO FIRST OF ALL GET A KOUPLE OF THINGS KLEARED UP. 1. WHAT ARE THE FUNTIONS OF A GOVERNMENT?? 2. WHAT IS THE MAJOR PREREQUIZITE FOR A GOVERNMENT TO PERFORM THESE FUNKTIONS?? 3. WHAT IS POWER?? 4. WHAT IS AUTHORITY?? 5. WHAT IS KNOWLEDGE??
BEFORE WE BEGIN TO DEFINE THESE WORDS.. IT IS IMPORTANT THAT NOTE IS TAKEN OF THE FAKT THAT ALL PREVIOUSLY ASSUMED DEFINITIONS OF THESE WORDS KOME FROM THE SAME AKADEMIK INSTITUTIONS THAT HAVE FAILED TO EMPOWER US YOUTH. AND KAN THERE-FORE NO MORE BE TRUSTED.
FOR EXAMPLE WE WERE TAUGHT IN OUR AKADEMIK KURRIKULUMS THAT BUSINESS IS SET UP FOR THE SOLE PURPOSE OF MAKING PROFIT. BUT I-PERSONALY-HAVE DISKOVERED THAT BUSSINESS IS AKTUALLY SET UP PRIMARILY TO RENDER SERVISES. WHILE THE ASPEKT OF PROFIT MAKING SERVES THE PURPOSE OF REWARDING A BUSSINESS MAN OR WOMAN FOR SERVISES EFFISIENTLY RENDERED.
AND ALL FROM PRIMARY SKHOOL.. .THRU UNIVERSITY..THE KONSEPT OF PROFIT MAKING HAS BEEN PRESENTED TO THE YOUTH AS A PURPOSE.. AS A WORTHY GOAL TO BE AKOMPLISHED..INSTEAD OF "AS A REWARD" FOR HAVING ATTAINED WORTHY GOALS. FOR THIS REASON..WE WILL NOT LOOK TO AKADEMIK QUARTERS FOR THE MEANINGS OF THE WORDS LISTED ABOVE. WE WILL LOOK TO KOMMON SENSE AND THE LOGIKAL REASON THAT KOMMON SENCE CAN INSPIRE.

1. WHAT ARE THE FUNCTIONS OF A GOVERNMENT:

A GOVERNMENT IS SET UP TO UNITE A SOCIETY AND TO ORGANIZE SAID SOCIETY.
THE GOVERNMENT IS TO LAY CREATE AND LAY DOWN LAWS AND PRINCIPLES THAT WILL SUSTAIN UNITY AND HARMONY IN THE GOVERNED SOCIETY.
THESE LAWS AND PRINCIPLES WILL INCLUDE REWARD FOR THE CONSTRUCTIVE BEHAVIOR OF MEMBERS OF SOCIETY AND PUNISHMENT FOR DESTRUCTIVE BEHAVIOR IN MEMBERS OF SAME SOCIETY.
THESE LAWZ AND PRINCIPLES ARE ALSO TO OVERSEE THE RUNNING OF THE VARIOUS STRUCTURES SET UP FOR EVERY FEILD OR WORK OF LIFE THAT ENGAGES THOSE HUMAN RECOURCES INHERENT IN ALL MEMBERS OF SAID SOCIETY.
THIS IS THE BASIC FUNCTION OF "A GOVERNMENT" AND IS A THREAD THAT RUNS THROUGH ALL CONCERNS/OBJECTIVES OF ANY GOVERNMENT.

THIS THESIS ON ACADEMIC INSTITUTIONS AS A SOURCE OF KNOWLEDGE CONTINUES SHORTLY.
IT BECAME NECCESSARY TO TAKE A LITTLE BREAK TO AFFORD THOSE WHO WERE TAKIN NOTES SOME MUCH NEEDED BREATHIN SPACE. THANX NAIRA LANDERS !! PEACE !!

NOW THAT WE HAV GRASPED THE BASIK FUNKTIONS OF "A GOVERNMENT" WE WILL NOW ATTEMPT TO IDENTIFY WHAT IS REQUIRED FOR "A GOVERNMENT" TO PERFORM THIS BAZIK FUNKTION.

BEFORE WE CONTINUE, SIGHT MUST NOT BE LOST OF OUR SUBJECT MATTER: IF KNOWLEDGE IS POWER, THEN WHERE DO WE GET KNOWLEDGE FROM?? THE SCHOOLS? (AS WE ARE MADE TO BELEIVE) OR BY OURSELVES??


WE WILL NOW CONTINUE WITH OUR DISCOURSE BY ATTEMPTING TO ANSWER THE SECOND OF THE QUESTIONS LISTED ABOVE : 2) WHAT IS THE MAJOR PREREQUISITE FOR A GOVERNMENT TO PERFORM ITS DUTIES??
NOW THIS QUESTION WUD REQUIRE A STRAIGHT FOWARD ANSWER, TO ENABLE US TO BEGIN TO GET THE CLEAR PICTURE WHICH WE INTEND TO PAINT IN THE MINDS OF THOSE FOLLOWING THIS THESIS.
NOW FOR ANY GOVERNMENT TO PERFORM ITS DUTIES OR ITS OBJECTIVES ON THE GOVERNED, SHE <THE GOVT> WUD REQUIRE TWO ITEMS>> WHICH ARE .. ..; POWER AND AUTHORITY.
